The Underboss is the Exotic submachine gun tied to Year 8 Season 2 “Into the Dark” in The Division 2. It is a Tommy Gun variant carrying the Gangland Hit talent, and it drops only from the season’s Zodiac Climax mission set inside the Tens Nightclub.
Quick answer: Complete all three Scout HVT activities to unlock the Zodiac Climax mission, clear it once on any difficulty, then finish it on Master. Your first Master clear has a 100% Underboss drop chance.
Underboss Exotic SMG stats and the Gangland Hit talent
The Underboss is built for co-op. Its talent marks enemies and amplifies damage against those marks, and the effect scales up when several agents run the same weapon on one target. That makes it strongest against heavy units and named bosses that soak damage.

| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Weapon type | Exotic SMG (Tommy Gun variant) |
| Optics slot | +15% Critical Hit Chance |
| Talent | Gangland Hit |
| Mark on hit | One mark at a time; transfers to the next enemy you shoot |
| Mark stacking | Up to 4 marks per enemy across agents using this weapon |
| Damage bonus | +20% Amplified Damage to a marked enemy, +5% for each extra mark beyond your own |
Solo, the weapon lands a flat +20% Amplified Damage on the enemy you have marked. In a squad running Underboss on the same target, the extra marks push that multiplier higher, which is where the gun does its real work.

Add to Google Preferences →Unlock the Zodiac Climax mission first
The Climax mission is not open by default. It appears only after you finish the seasonal Scout HVT activities and uncover the primary manhunt target. Three specific Scout objectives gate access.
- Into The Dark Week 1 Manhunt HVT (Scout 1)
- Into The Dark Week 5 Manhunt HVT (Scout 5)
- Into The Dark Week 9 Manhunt HVT (Scout 9)
Once those are solved, the Zodiac Climax mission unlocks in the Manhunt menu. You can fast travel to it from there. Note that Zodiac reworks the Tens Nightclub from the Classified mission of the same name, rather than reusing a raid map like earlier seasons.

How the Underboss drop works
Drop chance scales with difficulty. Lower difficulties only give a random chance at the weapon, while the first Master clear is guaranteed. There is a gate on Master, though. You must complete the Climax mission at least once on a lower difficulty before the Master version becomes available.
| Difficulty | Underboss drop |
|---|---|
| Lower difficulties | Random chance, improving as difficulty rises |
| Master (first clear) | 100% guaranteed drop |
Requirements to attempt the Master run are a level 40 agent and unlocked access to the Master Climax mission. If you own the weapon already, you can reconfigure its third attribute later. The Underboss can also be traded, but only with players who were in your party when it dropped.
Note: Targeted loot does not help here. The Underboss does not come from open-world activities, Countdown, or Exotic caches, and no in-game vendor sells it.
Tens Nightclub: Zodiac Climax mission route
The mission runs through the nightclub’s themed lounges under a Toxic status pulled from the PvE Dark Zone. Keep a healer nearby, ideally one built around Birdie’s Quick Fix backpack, and expect constant flanking pressure. The stages below run in order.

Confirming the drop and dealing with a hard run
You know the unlock worked once you clear Zodiac and the Underboss appears in your rewards after the mission ends. On a first Master completion, the drop is automatic, so if it does not show, confirm you actually finished on Master rather than a lower tier you still had access to.
If the mission is too much to solo, call in Shepherding agents or matchmake with friends, and bring a Legendary or Master-tier build to raise your survivability through the Toxic waves.
