How to Fish: How to Use the Reel of Fortune for Weapon Skins

Feed rare Drip Creatures into any island's slot machine to roll for random weapon and equipment skins.

The Reel of Fortune is the slot machine you’ll find on every island in How to Fish, and it’s the only way to earn weapon skins. It doesn’t take coins. The one thing it accepts is a Drip Creature, a rare version of the ordinary fish you’re already catching. Drop one in, the reel spins, and you walk away with a random cosmetic for a weapon or piece of gear.

Quick answer: Catch a Drip Creature (its name appears in rainbow-colored text), kill it, then select it from your inventory and throw it into any Reel of Fortune machine to spin for a random weapon skin.

What you need to spin the Reel of Fortune

Every spin costs one Drip Creature. These are rare variants of the normal creatures in the game, and they stand out immediately. When you hook one, the catch message shows the creature’s name in a colorful, rainbow-style font, along with an unusual, deliberately goofy look. There’s no special lure for them, so you just keep fishing the normal pool until one appears.

The good news is that Drip Creatures respawn without limit, so spending one at the machine never costs you anything permanent. If a spin hands you a skin you already own, head back out, catch another, and try again. There’s no cap on how many times you can play.

How to use the Reel of Fortune

Fish until you catch a Drip Creature. Watch for the rainbow-colored name in the catch message, which confirms you’ve landed the rare variant rather than a normal fish.
Drop the Drip Creature off your fishing rod, then punch it until it dies. You need the body before the machine will accept it.
Go to a Reel of Fortune machine. There’s one on each island, so use whichever is closest.
Select the Drip Creature from your inventory and throw the body into the machine. The reel spins and stops on a random result.
Take whatever skin the reel lands on. Each Drip Creature is exactly one pull, and both the skin and its rarity are entirely random.

Which skins each island’s machine gives

The skins on offer depend on which island you’re standing on. The machine on the starting Lighthouse island only rolls for melee cosmetics, while later islands cover guns and even your equipment.

Machine locationPossible skins
Lighthouse (starting island)Brass Knuckles, Knife
Third islandPistol, SMG, Shotgun, Boat, Fishing Rod

Because of this split, it’s worth holding off on spending your very first Drip Creature at the Lighthouse. The Knife and Brass Knuckles are handy early, but you’ll unlock better weapons on the later islands, and their machines roll for the gear you’ll actually keep using.

Tip: After you finish the game, you wake up back on the first island with all five islands open. That makes it easy to farm Drip Creatures and hit any machine you like without progression blocking you.

How to equip a skin you won

Skins don’t apply automatically. Equip the weapon or item that received the skin, then press Z or C, depending on your keyboard layout, to cycle through its available appearances. The skins are purely cosmetic, so they won’t change damage, stats, or any other gameplay behavior.

Legendary skins and the GOLD GOLD GOLD achievement

Rolling a Legendary skin unlocks the GOLD GOLD GOLD achievement. There’s no crafting recipe, shop, or quest gate for it. The machine is pure RNG, the exact odds aren’t shown in-game, and inserting a Drip Creature guarantees a spin but never a specific rarity. The only route is to keep feeding Drip Creatures in until a Legendary result lands.

Since Drip Creatures come back endlessly, treat this as a repeat grind rather than a fixed number of tries. A practical habit is to keep one on hand and spin whenever you pass a machine, chipping away at the achievement without making a dedicated trip.

If the machine’s display stops working

Some players have run into the Reel of Fortune’s display screen freezing or failing to update. If the screen isn’t showing the spin properly, restart the game and check the machine again. That reset generally clears the issue.
