How to Fish: Using the Fishing Rod and Sell Your Catch

Fishing in this low-poly adventure game (version 1.0.9) is a short loop with four beats. You buy bait or a lure, cast into the water, reel a biting fish onto land, then defeat it and sell it to an NPC for cash. The whole thing runs on the left mouse button and a single interact key.

Quick answer: Buy a Beginner Lure for $3 from the shop board, hold left-click at the water’s edge to load the rod and release to cast, then hold and spam left-click when a fish bites to drag it onto land. Shoot the fish, press E to pick it up, and press E at the NPC by the cabin to sell it.

Buy bait and lures from the shop board

The shop is a wooden board hanging from a tree near the cabin. Walk up to it and aim at an item to purchase it. A Beginner Lure is the cheapest way to start catching fish, and your starting money is enough for a lure and a snack with change to spare.

Note: the Beginner Boss Lure costs $40, which is far more than you start with, so early on you will fund it by selling regular catches first.

Cast the line and reel in a fish

Equip the fishing rod and walk to the shore so you are facing open water. You need to be at the water’s edge for the cast to reach.

Hold left-click to pull back the rod, shown on screen as the Pull Back Rod (Hold) prompt. Release the button to launch the line into the water.

Wait for a bite. When a fish hits, hold left-click to hook it, then spam left-click to reel it all the way in until it lands on the grass. This is the Reel In (Hold/Spam) action.

Subdue the fish and sell it for money

A landed fish is not yours yet. It flops on the ground and has to be defeated before you can pick it up.

Switch to a weapon and shoot the fish on the ground. A pistol works, and a single hit is enough to finish a small catch like a Piranha.

Press E to pick up the fish once it stops moving.

Walk to the NPC sitting outside the wooden cabin, the one wearing a captain’s hat. Press E to talk, using the Talk [E] prompt, and sell the fish for cash.

Confirmation is immediate. Your money counter jumps by the sale value and a small +$ total pops up when the trade goes through. Selling a Piranha adds $5, and a Pike adds $13.

Once the loop clicks, it is fast. Keep a lure equipped, cast, reel, shoot, and cash out at the cabin, and you can bank enough to save toward the Beginner Boss Lure and start pulling in bigger targets.
