The 28 August 2026 update to Mistfall Hunter is the heaviest balance pass Bellring Games has shipped since launch, and it lands under a post whose title only mentions maintenance. Thirty-four class and item lines changed. Sorcerer took the largest single damage cut, Mercenary lost the invincibility frames that made three of its talents so hard to punish, and Season Tasks and Contract Tasks were made noticeably less demanding after weeks of complaints.
Quick answer: The update went live after a roughly two-hour maintenance window on 28 August 2026, so you need to update the game client through your platform’s store before you can queue. If Gravitational Vortex still hits for its old numbers, or a Mercenary dodge under Leap Step still ignores damage, you are on the old build.
Sorcerer nerfs: Gravitational Vortex, Meteor Charm and Stardust Torrent
Sorcerer picked up nine lines, more than any other class, and they do not all point the same way. Gravitational Vortex is the headline cut and the patch notes describe the reduction as a large one. Meteor Charm loses PvP damage, though releasing it uncharged now refunds more Energy, so a cancelled cast is less punishing than it was.
The Stardust change is the one most likely to invalidate a build without looking like a nerf. Damage moves out of the first channelling stage and into the third when Unending Torrent is taken, with total output unchanged. Skip that talent and the higher stages simply take longer to reach.
| Skill or talent | What changed |
|---|---|
| Gravitational Vortex | Damage greatly reduced — the biggest cut in the block |
| Meteor Charm | PvP damage reduced; uncharged release returns more Energy |
| Stardust Torrent | Damage shifted from the first channelling stage to the third with Unending Torrent |
| Unending Torrent | Now required to keep the channel behaving as it did before |
| Stardust Tempest | Movement slow expires quickly once a target leaves the area |
| Storm Impact | Dodge-distance reduction is shorter and weaker |
| Shadow Well | Duration reduced |
| Meteor Impact | Cooldown reduced (buff) |
| Swift Strike | No longer increases Meteor Impact’s base cooldown (buff) |

Meteor Impact and Swift Strike are the two clear gains. They previously taxed each other, and with that interaction removed the Meteor line is the part of the class that came out of this pass ahead.
Mercenary loses dodge invincibility frames under three talents
Dodges performed under Leap Step, Dynamic Charge and Relentless Advance no longer grant invincibility frames, and each of those dodges now costs more Energy. The talents still move you the same distance. What they no longer do is carry you through an incoming hit, which removes the main reason Mercenary could trade into almost anything.
Thunderous Hammer and Skullcrushing Echo both had a very short internal cooldown added to their cooldown-reduction effects, so clipping several enemies at once no longer resets a skill instantly. Earthshaker and Skullcrusher now consume Energy at startup rather than on release, which shuts down the trick of repeatedly charging and cancelling to apply pressure for free. Skullcrusher also takes a cooldown increase on top. Warhammer Sling is the one straight buff, with a faster animation, and a bug where a light strike could re-trigger Impalement was fixed.

Shadowstrix and Blackarrow changes
Shadowstrix takes five lines, three of them cuts. Phantom Shift’s speed boost now only applies while you move toward enemies, so it cannot be used to shorten a disengage. Spinning Slash loses both damage and movement distance, aimed at indiscriminate Super Armor counterattacks, and it was already trimmed in the 12 August pass. Flurry Strike simply deals less damage. Two Lightweight faults were fixed, covering abnormal movement distance when a dodge was combined with a jump and the talent triggering when it should not, and Wound Buildup no longer stacks abnormally from sources it failed to tell apart.
Blackarrow gets its first buff of any pass since launch, with increased Spore Arrow damage. The trade is Lasting Pain, whose extension to immobilise and crowd-control debuffs is shorter. A display bug that made character models appear abnormally while climbing ladders was also closed.
Withered Knight, Seer and the cross-class movement fix
Withered Knight received only fixes. Footsteps could go completely silent under specific circumstances, which in an extraction game decides fights on its own, and the long-range dash branched from Parry travelled fast enough to fling the character into the sky.
That sky-launch family of bug finally gets a general answer. A protective constraint system was added across every class to stop characters being thrown upward after high-speed movement. Previous updates patched individual instances, including Blackarrow’s side-dodge jump displacement, so this is the first line that targets the whole class of fault.

Seer has a single line, and it is a fix rather than a cut. Burst Rune could strip an enemy’s invulnerability as they left a Mist Lord’s room, which closes the exit side of the doorway protection added on 19 August. With no damage reductions of its own while three rivals lose tools, Seer is the class most likely to move up as the meta settles.

One gem affix was also corrected. Creation could stack abnormally, so any measurement taken from it before this update may have been reading the bug rather than the affix.
Tactical item buffs: Revealing Bulb and Fetid Jar
Three tactical items were improved, and the Revealing Bulb change is the most practical of them. The series now seeks targets automatically instead of relying on your throw, and its speed boost grants more movement speed.
| Item | Buff |
|---|---|
| Revealing Bulb | Seeks targets automatically; larger movement speed bonus |
| Potent Revealing Bulb | Inflicts a larger dodge-energy reduction |
| Fetid Jar | Larger hit radius; holds enemies down for longer |
Season Tasks, Contract Sigils and the Oceania server
Bellring opened the post by acknowledging that Season Tasks and Contract Tasks were too hard and that the feedback had been persistent. Kill-count requirements were reduced and difficulty-mode restrictions lowered, so tasks that forced you into a harder mode no longer do. Objectives that asked you to execute Gyldhunters now only ask you to defeat them, and they ask for fewer.
Note: no task was removed from the season count. What changed is what each one asks of you, not how many there are.
Daily task rewards went from 30 Contract Sigils to 40. A new Oceania server region was also added, which is the first regional expansion beyond the five countries the game launched with.
Downtime, the rescheduled date and compensation
This was the first update since launch to take the servers down rather than land live. The maintenance ran for roughly two hours from 06:30 UTC+0 on 28 August, with matchmaking queues closing half an hour beforehand, and a client update was required afterwards. It had originally been announced for 27 August before being moved. Players received an Elite Combat Bag ×1 as compensation.
Every prior update since launch — 6 August, 12 August and 19 August — landed with no downtime, which is why the maintenance window itself was treated as notable.
Where the lag and stutter work stands
This pass contains no server performance lines at all. The stutter work happened earlier and separately. Bellring traced part of the intermittent stuttering, teleporting characters and lag to cloud server CPU hyper-threading, rolled out server configuration changes across all servers on 13 and 14 August, and said its monitoring showed the stutters occurring less often afterwards. An earlier update also reduced how frequently damage-over-time effects tick while keeping their total damage the same, specifically to cut server workload.
Because the investigation was described as ongoing and cause-by-cause rather than solved, remaining lag reports are not addressed by anything in the 28 August notes. No further server performance update has been dated.
If you were running a Stardust Sorcerer without Unending Torrent, a Mercenary built around dodge-cancelling charges, or a Shadowstrix leaning on Spinning Slash for safe counterattacks, those are the three loadouts worth re-testing before you queue into anything ranked. Everything else in the pass is either a fix or a small gain.
