Moonlight’s Blessing hands new and returning Epic Seven players a free 5-star Moonlight hero, which is the rarest class of unit in the game. Six names sit on that selection screen, and only two of them meaningfully change how an account progresses in 2026. The good news is that the choice is not final until you finish the last quest in the chain, so a bad first pick is fixable.
Quick answer: Take Arbiter Vildred first and use him to blow through early story stages, then hit Reset Moonlight’s Blessing and switch to Ruele of Light before you complete the final unlock quest. Ruele is the hero you want permanently attached to the account.
How the Moonlight’s Blessing pick and reset work
The Blessing unlocks after you finish Selective Summon and clear Episode 1, 1-10 (Sanctuary Gate Underground). From there it lives in the lower right corner of the lobby. Picking a hero adds that unit to your roster immediately, but in a restricted state that opens up as you clear the attached quest chain, which includes an Arena requirement at Gold V League.
The important mechanic is the Reset Moonlight’s Blessing button. Until the final quest in that chain is completed, you can swap your selection to any of the other five heroes. Once the chain is done, the hero is locked to your account permanently and the other five are gone.
Note: Resetting hands you the new hero at base state. Levels, awakening, and any Mola you spent on the previous unit do not transfer, so do your experimenting before you sink resources into a hero you plan to drop.

| Hero | Rank | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Ruele of Light | 1 | Permanent pick. Healer and reviver whose Exclusive Equipment carries her into late-game PvE and PvP. |
| Arbiter Vildred | 2 | Best temporary pick. Self-revive plus AoE clears early story and farming stages fast. |
| Specter Tenebria | 3 | Still usable for poison and Abyss, but power-crept. |
| Martial Artist Ken | Skip | Counter-attack kit, heavily countered in PvP and gear hungry. |
| Dark Corvus | Skip | Slow, no PvE value, easily shut down by injury effects. |
| Judge Kise | Skip | Low damage and thin utility in both PvE and PvP. |
Ruele of Light: The hero to lock in permanently
Ruele is a Light Soul Weaver built around undoing mistakes. Her S3 brings a dead ally back at full Health with one turn of invincibility, and living allies get their debuffs cleared plus the same invincibility. Her S2 summons a light pillar that dispels all debuffs, heals, and drops a barrier for two turns, with both values scaling off her max Health. Her S1 chips at an enemy while topping up your lowest-Health ally.
What pushes her to the top is her Exclusive Equipment, the Rabbit Fortune Cookie Pouch, which extends her S3 effect to herself. A healer who can hand out invincibility, dispel, and a full revive while covering her own turn is a real problem to kill, and that translates directly into Arena, Guild War, and difficult PvE content. She does not have a native AoE heal without soul burn, which is her one clear weakness.
Arbiter Vildred: The early-game farmer worth borrowing
Arbiter Vildred is a Dark Thief whose S3 hits the whole enemy team, reduces Hit Chance by 50%, and resets its own cooldown whenever it kills something. On stages full of squishy enemies, that means he can chain his ultimate turn after turn and clear Episode 1 and 2 content with almost no support.
His passive is the other half of the package. After taking lethal damage he revives at 70% Health with full combat readiness, an Attack buff for two turns, full Focus, and a reset on Dark Blade. That safety net is why a brand new account with almost no gear can still push story progress with him. He also stays relevant in PvP later, but you only need him long enough to get through the early grind.

Specter Tenebria: Third place, and only if you skip the top two
Specter Tenebria is a Dark Mage with effectively permanent stealth. Her S2 stops single-target attacks from hitting her while allies are alive, and she gains 7% Attack and Defense every time any unit dies, which stacks across long fights. Her S1 applies poison and cannot be counterattacked, and it hits two enemies while her S3 is on cooldown.
The S3 itself is a heavy single-target hit that stuns, and killing with it drains 50% combat readiness from every remaining enemy. Her poison stacking remains genuinely useful in Abyss. The catch is age: newer units have caught up with and passed what she does, so she sits behind both Ruele and Vildred rather than competing with them.

The three heroes to avoid picking
Judge Kise is a Light Warrior with AoE dispel on her S2 and a skill cooldown increase on her S3. On paper that combo can freeze an enemy team into basic attacks, but her damage no longer holds up, and she needs excellent gear before she does anything at all. For an account that does not yet farm high-tier equipment, she contributes very little to PvE or PvP.

Dark Corvus is a Dark Warrior that wins by outlasting people. His S3 lands a lethal hit scaled off his own Health and drains it back, his S2 shaves cooldown whenever he is attacked, and his S1 provokes. That works in slow defensive setups, but it produces very long matches, does nothing for PvE progression, and folds to injury effects that punish Health-scaling units.

Martial Artist Ken punishes attackers with a 30% counter chance and a guaranteed Dragon Flame counter after a critical hit. Counter builds are still fun, but counter-play against them is everywhere in PvP now, and story content is easy enough that he adds nothing there. He also demands Attack, Health, Defense, and Effect Resistance all at once, which is a lot to ask of a young account.

How to confirm your pick is locked correctly
The most common way people end up with a hero they did not want is finishing that final quest by accident while a temporary pick is still selected. If the reset button is gone from the Blessing screen, the choice is done.
8th anniversary rewards that help you build the hero
The 8th Anniversary INFINITY update runs alongside all of this, and its rewards go straight into leveling and gearing whichever hero you lock in. The anniversary coupon code TY_E8_INFINITY grants 80 Gold Transmit Stones, 80 Greater Charm Selection Chests, and 800,000 Gold, and it can be redeemed once per account through the official Epic Seven coupon page.
Voting daily in the 8th Anniversary Ezeran Popularity Poll earns Event Coins, which you can spend at the 8th Anniversary Coin Exchange. MolaGora x15, a 5★ Hero Summon Ticket, a 5★ Artifact Summon Ticket, a Mana Stone Selection Chest, and 100 Chronicle Bookmarks each cost 50 Coins, while Lesser Equipment and Accessory Charms run 10 Coins for three. The poll and both reward tracks run through 2026/10/28 14:59 UTC.
Save the MolaGora for the hero you intend to keep. Spending it on a temporary Arbiter Vildred before you reset the Blessing is the one genuinely wasteful mistake in this whole process, and it is the reason the reset order matters more than the ranking itself.
