Getting your first Trick Egg comes down to one specific bird, and the path to it runs through a chain of eggs and roosters you can start building right away.
Quick answer: Hatch a Catalyst Hen from a Colossus Egg (under 1% chance), then place it in your coop or the Incubator. The Catalyst Hen has a 2% chance to lay a Trick Egg each cycle.
The Catalyst Hen is the only source of Trick Eggs
Every Trick Egg starts with the Catalyst Hen. This bird lays Colossus Eggs the vast majority of the time, but it also carries a small chance to produce a Trick Egg instead. Nothing else in your coop gives you that first Trick Egg, so the whole process depends on getting a Catalyst Hen first.
The Catalyst Hen comes from a Colossus Egg, and its hatch chance sits below 1%. That makes it rarer than both the Storm Colossus and the Talon Titan, so expect to open a large number of Colossus Eggs before one appears.
How to farm Colossus Eggs for the Catalyst Hen
Because the Catalyst Hen only drops from Colossus Eggs, your first job is producing a steady supply of them. The Founder Rooster is the easiest bird for this and is the recommended starting point for newer players.
Placing the Catalyst Hen to lay Trick Eggs
Once you have a Catalyst Hen, you have two options for where to keep it working. You can deploy it directly in your coop, or you can put it in the Incubator, a machine that unlocks after you complete Rebirth 3.
In either spot, the Catalyst Hen lays a Colossus Egg 98% of the time and a Trick Egg the other 2%. That 2% is your main path to a first Trick Egg, so you will want to keep the bird active as much as possible.
To speed things up, use duplicate Catalyst Hens to promote the one you are running, and equip it with Battle Charms. Both raise the chance of laying Trick Eggs well above the base 2%.

Scale up Trick Eggs after your first hatch
Here is the important part once you crack that first Trick Egg. Every chicken hatched from it can also lay Trick Eggs, and each one does so at a higher base rate than the Catalyst Hen. That means your production loop gets faster the moment you start pulling birds out of Trick Eggs.
Put any Trick Egg chicken back to work laying more of the eggs. On top of the improved laying rates, these birds carry solid Skills and Attack damage, so they hold up in the Arena and the Pit while they keep your egg supply growing.
You will know the loop is working when a Trick Egg appears in your inventory alongside the usual Colossus Eggs. From there it is a matter of hatching, keeping the strongest layers, and promoting them to push your Trick Egg odds higher over time.
