Leveling in Fisch is not about casting more often. It is about making every single catch count for as much as possible, because almost every XP bonus in the game multiplies the base XP of the fish you pull up. Stack the right rod mutations, the right location, a potion, a shell, and a companion, and a single catch can be worth tens of thousands of XP instead of a few hundred.
Quick answer: Equip the Great Rod of Oscar with the Clever and Wise mutations, drink Merlin’s Temporary XP Boost (Insight IV, +20% XP) from Sunstone Island, consume a Shell of Wrath (+25% XP) from the Mermaid Cove altar, equip the Relic Construct companion, then fish inside the Everturn Forest cavern at night for the island’s 3x night XP multiplier.
Every XP buff in the stack and where it comes from
These bonuses are designed to be layered. None of them replace another, so the goal is to have as many active at the same moment you land a high-value fish.
| Buff | Effect | Where to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Great Rod of Oscar (Clever + Wise) | Base XP multipliers on every catch | Enchant the rod until both mutations land |
| Everturn Forest cavern at night | 3x passive night XP multiplier | Hidden cavern inside Everturn Forest |
| Insight IV potion (Temporary XP Boost) | +20% XP, timed | Merlin on Sunstone Island, 5,000 C$ |
| Shell of Wrath | +25% XP | Mermaid Cove altar at the Grand Reef |
| Relic Construct companion | Additional XP multiplier | Equipped in your companion slot |
| Double XP gamepass | 2x XP, permanent, no timer | In-game shop, 239 Robux |
| Double Server’s Luck | No direct XP, raises rare fish rates | Shop, 99 Robux or watch the featured ad |

Add to Google Preferences →Rod setup: Great Rod of Oscar with Clever and Wise
The Great Rod of Oscar carrying both the Clever and Wise mutations is the foundation of the whole setup. Clever is the strongest XP enchant in the game, and running it alongside Wise gives you the largest base multiplier before any of the temporary buffs are applied. Everything else in the stack scales off that number, so it is worth burning enchant attempts until both land.
The Double XP gamepass sits on top of that permanently. It has no timer and applies to XP from every source, not just fishing, which makes it the one purchase that keeps paying out across quests, chests, and bestiary completions.
Getting to the Everturn Forest cavern
Everturn Forest carries a passive 3x XP multiplier at night, and the cavern tucked inside the island is where you want to be casting. It is the single biggest multiplier in the setup, which is why the rest of the buff run is timed around being back here before the potion expires.

Merlin’s Insight IV potion and the Shell of Wrath
Two consumables add flat percentage boosts, and both are cheap enough to refresh every session. Collect them before you settle into the cavern, since the potion runs on a timer.

Tip: Shells of Wrath are worth holding until the rest of the stack is already active. Consuming one while you are still boat-hopping between islands wastes most of its duration.
Doubling server luck for rarer fish
Luck does not multiply XP directly. What it does is change what you hook, and rarer fish carry far higher base XP, which is what all your multipliers act on. Doubling server luck is effectively an XP buff by proxy.

Base fish XP is what your multipliers act on
Every fish has a fixed base XP value, and the spread is enormous. Common junk catches sit in single digits, standard fish land around 30 to 70, and the top end runs into four figures. A full buff stack applied to a 30 XP catch is still a small number, which is why rare spawns and high-luck servers matter so much.
| Fish | Base XP |
|---|---|
| Bigfin Squid | 1,400 |
| Scoria Swordfish | 1,210 |
| Colossal Flower | 750 |
| Sulfur Pearl | 500 |
| Argosgeorgiae Snailfish | 490 |
| Bigspine Spookfish | 480 |
| String (junk) | 1 |
Checking the stack is live, and why XP looks low
The confirmation is the XP number on the catch screen itself. With the full stack running in the cavern at night, individual catches should be reading in the tens of thousands rather than the hundreds. If the number is far below that, one of the layers has dropped off.
- The Insight IV potion has expired. It is a timed buff and needs re-buying from Merlin for 5,000 C$.
- It is daytime in-game. The Everturn Forest 3x multiplier applies at night, so the same cavern pays far less during the day.
- The Shell of Wrath was never consumed, or its effect has already run out.
- The rod in hand is not the enchanted one. Only the rod carrying Clever and Wise contributes those multipliers.
- The Relic Construct companion is unequipped after a server change.
XP sources outside of casting
Fishing is the bulk of it, but several other actions feed the same XP pool and are worth grabbing while you are already moving between islands. Angler quests in particular are outsized, since they pay a multiple of the target fish’s base XP rather than a flat amount.
| Source | XP |
|---|---|
| Angler Quests | 6–8x the fish’s base XP |
| Treasure Chests | 1,500–2,000 |
| Discovering a new location | 300 |
| Completing Bestiary sections | Varies by location |
| Personal Aquarium | Passive, every hour |
| Obtaining fishing rods and NPC quests | Varies |
The maths behind the grind is worth keeping in mind before you commit to a session. Climbing from level 1 to level 1000 costs roughly 95 million XP in total, and the curve steepens badly at the top, so the difference between a half-stacked setup and a full one is measured in days rather than hours. Rebuild the stack every time you rejoin a server, keep an eye on the potion timer, and treat the night cycle in Everturn Forest as the clock you actually plan around.
