Exotic materials are the wall every Dungeon Lootr player hits once the Legendary gear stops keeping up. They gate the best craftable armor, they feed the Forge, and they only come from two places in the game. Everything else — normal dungeons, low difficulties, chest luck — will not produce them.
Quick answer: Run Challenge Mode and kill every boss for Exotic Essence (30% per boss) and Exotic Ore from Igris on wave 30 and above (35%), or clear Underworld Gate on Nightmare for Exotic Essence (5% on completion), Exotic Ore (15%), and Exotic Shattered Armor from the Igris secret boss (8%).
Exotic material drop rates in Dungeon Lootr
Three materials carry the Exotic tag, and each one has a specific source and a fixed chance. There is no alternate route through spins, chests, or normal difficulty dungeons.
| Material | Source | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| Exotic Essence | Challenge Mode, any boss | 30% per boss |
| Exotic Essence | Underworld Gate, Nightmare, full clear | 5% on completion |
| Exotic Ore | Challenge Mode, Igris on wave 30+ | 35% |
| Exotic Ore | Underworld Gate, Nightmare drops | 15% |
| Exotic Shattered Armor | Igris secret boss, Underworld Gate on Nightmare and Endless | 8% |

Add to Google Preferences →Challenge Mode is the fastest Exotic Essence and Exotic Ore farm
Challenge Mode wins on volume. Bosses spawn every 10 waves, and every single one rolls a 30% chance at Exotic Essence, so a deep run gives you several rolls instead of one. Compare that to a full Underworld Gate Nightmare clear, which pays out a single 5% roll no matter how long the run took.
Exotic Ore works differently here. It comes from Igris specifically, and only once you are on wave 30 or higher, at a 35% drop chance. Anything before wave 30 will not produce it, so a run that stalls at wave 20 is an Essence farm and nothing more.
Because of that cutoff, pick a class and difficulty you can actually sustain to wave 30 rather than the theoretically fastest setup. A run that ends in a death before the ore threshold is worth zero.

Underworld Gate on Nightmare drops all three Exotic materials
Underworld Gate on Nightmare is the only run that can hand you every Exotic material in a single trip. Exotic Ore appears in the dungeon’s drop pool at 15%, Exotic Essence is awarded at 5% when you complete the run, and the Igris secret boss can drop Exotic Shattered Armor.
The Essence roll is tied to completion, not to kills, so leaving early or dying voids it. If your only goal is Essence, Challenge Mode is the better use of the same time. Where Underworld Gate earns its place is Shattered Armor, which has no other source.
Exotic Shattered Armor and the Igris secret boss
Exotic Shattered Armor drops from Igris, the secret boss found in Underworld Gate on Nightmare and Endless, at an 8% chance. Two things stack against you here: Igris is a secret encounter and does not turn up in every run, and even when he does, the drop is a coin flip that usually loses.
Treat it as a repeat farm rather than a one-evening goal, and prioritize the difficulty you can clear reliably. Nightmare runs you finish beat Endless runs that end in a wipe, since a failed run returns nothing at all.

What Exotic materials are used for
Everything Exotic runs through the crafting station in the hub. The Crafting tab turns raw materials into gear, while the Forge handles upgrades, Affix rerolls, and stat improvements on equipment you already own.
| Craft | What it needs |
|---|---|
| Supernova Ring | 12 Celestial Ore, 15 Exotic Essence, 1 Exotic Ingot |
| Exotic Living Armor | Exotic Essence (chest slot, crafted at the Forge) |
| King’s Crown | Exotic head armor, crafted at the Forge |
| Jetstream class | Exotic Shattered Armor from Igris |
Tip: select a missing ingredient inside the crafting menu or Item Index before you queue a run. The game points you to where that material comes from, which keeps a session focused on the one item blocking your next craft.
How to confirm the drop actually landed
A drop only becomes yours when you extract. Dungeon Lootr is hardcore about this — die during a run and everything you picked up that run is gone, including Exotic materials. Check the permanent inventory back in the lobby after extracting, and the material count should have gone up.
If nothing shows up, the reason is almost always one of a short list.
- You died or left before extracting, so the run’s loot was wiped.
- You ran Underworld Gate below Nightmare, which is not in the Exotic drop pool.
- Igris did not spawn, so there was no Shattered Armor roll to make.
- Your Challenge Mode run ended before wave 30, which is the floor for Exotic Ore.
- The roll simply failed. At 5% to 35%, empty runs are normal, not a bug.
The Possible Rewards section in the Dungeons menu lists what a given dungeon and difficulty can actually drop, so it is worth a look before committing to a long farm. If Exotic materials are not on that list for the run you selected, no amount of repetition will produce them.
