The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Get and Use the Cathedral Treasury Key

The Svartrau Cathedral Treasury holds two of the most valuable pickups in the early game, but both are locked behind a single key. That key sits inside The Cathedral Complex, and how you reach it changes completely depending on whether Coen is exploring by day or by night.

Quick answer: Enter the Belltower in the northwestern part of The Cathedral Complex, interact with the ledger on the table, then inspect the key and exit the inspection to add it to your inventory. Take it to the Treasury in the northeastern garden and unlock the door.

Where the Cathedral Treasury and its key are

The Treasury building stands in the northeastern garden of The Cathedral Complex. The key that opens it is stored separately, inside the Belltower room in the northwestern part of the same complex. You will collect the key first, then walk it over to the Treasury door.

Both locations have a daytime route and a nighttime route. During the day the complex doors are unlocked, so you can move through the building freely. At night the doors are locked, which forces you onto the roof using vampiric movement.

Night	Use Shadowstep to climb onto the roof, then Clawride down to land safely in the garden.

Get the Treasury Key during the day

The daytime route is the safest and involves a short conversation plus a small time cost.

Talk to the Acolyte guarding the storage room and select the line “Could you let me take a look inside?”

Choose “Maybe I could help you?” Paying the guard is the quickest alternative if you would rather not spend time.

Spend 1 hour helping the kid stack boxes, then enter the room once the task finishes.

Interact with the ledger on the table inside. Reading it also gives you background on the Treasury’s contents.

Inspect the key, then exit the inspection view to obtain it. The key is now yours to use on the Treasury door.

Get the Treasury Key during the night

Grabbing the key after dark is riskier because Xanthe is present. Stumbling into the Vrakhiri triggers an early boss fight that lower-level characters will usually want to avoid.

Approach through the southeastern tower of The Cathedral Complex instead of the front. This keeps you clear of Xanthe.

Use Shadowstep and Clawride to sneak up and drop into position toward the Belltower room.

Interact with the ledger, inspect the key, and exit the inspection to pick it up. If you choose to fight and defeat Xanthe instead, you can reach the same ledger and take the key afterward.

Use the key to open the Treasury

With the key in hand, head to the Treasury in the northeastern garden and use it on the locked door. Once inside, open every chest and search the bookshelves for silver valuables. Downstairs, a pushable bookshelf hides a secret room worth checking if you are working through the crypt objectives nearby.

You know it worked when the door unlocks and the interior chests and shelves become lootable. The two standout rewards are listed below.

Phial of Xanthe’s Blood	Drink it to unlock the Blood Surge Ability in the Vampirism Skill Tree.
Stone Key	Used to acquire a legendary sword during the A Hero’s End quest.

Note: The Treasury also connects to the wider Saint Mihai search. In the hidden lower room, interact with the table and rotate the goblet until Saint Mihai’s symbol appears, which points you to the correct crypt tablet elsewhere in the cathedral.

Grab the key on whichever cycle suits your level, clear out the chests and shelves, and you will walk away with the Blood Surge unlock and a head start on that legendary sword.
