Father Florin looks like a loyal servant of the powers running Vale Sangora. He preaches for them, obeys them in public, and quietly runs a resistance cell against them from a hideout buried under Svartrau City. Getting him on your side is the fastest way to open a side door into Greifberg Castle, which is where Coen’s story ends.
Quick answer: Confess to Father Florin to open his questline, complete In the Name of the Father in Svartrau City, then pick “Alright, let’s work together.” He explains how to get through the side entrance to Greifberg Castle, located up a short path northwest of the Vedera Shallows Shrine.
What Father Florin unlocks
Florin is a double agent. The confession booth is the trigger that reveals it. Once Coen confesses, Florin drops the act far enough to hint at his real allegiance, and his personal questline becomes available.
That questline leads underground to his resistance group. Siding with them gives you a route past Greifberg Castle’s front defences, so you can walk into the final area without climbing the outer wall or hunting for a key. Nothing about Florin changes which ending you get. He only changes how you get in the door.
Where to find Father Florin’s hideout in Svartrau City
Florin does not wait for you in the open. In the Name of the Father routes Coen through one of the Curious Houses in Svartrau City and down into a set of underground ruins, which is where the cell actually meets.
Note: turning him down the first time is not permanent. You can refuse the offer, leave, and come back later to accept, as long as Florin is still alive. Kill him and the entire route closes for that save.
Greifberg Castle side entrance: Florin’s route vs. the key
The side entrance sits at the top of a short path northwest of the Vedera Shallows Shrine, and unlike the wall climb it works during the day as well as at night. There are two separate ways to get through it, and you only need one.

There is also a third way into the castle that involves neither. At night you can walk the path toward the castle and chain Planeshift with Shadowstep to get over the outer wall. The game warns you before you cross the point of no return, then a cutscene pulls Coen inside.
Opening the side door starts the ending, so finish your ally quests first
Using Florin’s route is not a shortcut into a normal dungeon. Going through that door starts the ending sequence, and doing it early means Coen faces Brencis without Lacra or Crake, which is the Folk Hero outcome.
If you want either of the ally endings instead, wrap up those questlines before you touch the side gate. Lacra’s chain runs from A Friend Like This through to Midnight Reckoning. Crake’s runs from The Firebrand through Where Loyalty Lies, What Hunts the Night, What Moves the Dead and Who Pulls the Strings before reaching Rise at Dawn and Fall Before Dusk.
Keep a manual save before you approach the castle. That single save lets you see the Florin route through to the credits and then reload to try the ally confrontations without replaying the campaign.
The 30 in-game day limit still applies while you do all of this. Cross it and Brencis sacrifices Coen’s family, which removes the In the Nick of Time reward from that run.
Florin in the prologue: the Figurine of St. Jude
Your first dealing with Florin happens long before Svartrau City, during the prologue quest Enter Not. The boarded-up house north of Anca’s hut hides a corpse holding the Last Confession and a Figurine of St. Jude. Getting inside means climbing onto the roof and dropping through the hole.
The note explains that the woman inside caught the plague and was sealed in by the church to die, and that she wanted the figurine returned. Hand it to Florin inside the Laslea church and the quest closes for 100 XP. He takes it and has it destroyed, which is the first clear sign that the man in the cassock is not what he appears to be.
This has to happen before the Blood Mass begins. Miss the window and the quest is not lost outright, since you can place the figurine on the altar once the prologue is over.
Why the side door route fails
- Florin is dead. Killing him removes the alliance option permanently, leaving only the key or the wall climb.
- You never confessed. The confession is what exposes his real motives and makes his questline available.
- In the Name of the Father is unfinished. Reaching the hideout is not enough on its own; you have to agree to work with him.
- You are trying the front of the Curious House. The balcony north of the West Gate is the entry point.
Florin is worth doing even if you plan to end the game with Lacra or Crake beside you. Clearing the side gate early means the final approach is already solved, and you can spend the remaining in-game days on the quests that actually change how Brencis falls.
