Mistfall Hunter September 3 Update: Every Class Balance Change Tested

Shadowstrix takes the heaviest hit while Mercenary, Sorcerer, and Blackarrow get targeted fixes, energy costs, and cooldown changes.

Shadowstrix takes the heaviest hit while Mercenary, Sorcerer, and Blackarrow get targeted fixes, energy costs, and cooldown changes.

The September 3 live update for Mistfall Hunter reshuffles the class pecking order more than any single number on the patch notes suggests. Four classes were touched, one of them heavily, and several long-standing animation cancel exploits were closed. Outside of combat, Brandgarde gained a Solo Mode, enemy gear levels are now readable at a glance in the field, and tower elevators no longer double as a fall hazard.

Quick answer: Shadowstrix absorbed the largest nerfs. Phantom Shift and Free Movement now have longer wind-up times, the Phantom Shift speed boost only triggers when you move toward an enemy, and Flurry Strike drains energy continuously while you hold the charge. You can confirm all three in the Training Room within a minute.

Shadowstrix nerfs: Phantom Shift, Spinning Slash, and Flurry Strike

Shadowstrix was the class holding the meta together, and it is the one that lost the most. Phantom Shift and Free Movement both carry a longer wind-up before the movement resolves, so the class no longer disengages instantly on reaction. More importantly, the Phantom Shift speed boost is now directional. Teleport away from a target and you get nothing extra. Move directly toward an enemy and the boost applies, triggering from roughly 10 to 15 meters out.

Spinning Slash lost both reach and damage. Tested from a fixed wall position, the forward travel is visibly shorter than before, and hits land in the 123 to 171 range on a training bot. The right-click bunny hop that used to carry forward momentum no longer does, which removes one of the class’s cheapest repositioning tools.

Flurry Strike now consumes energy continuously while you hold the charge instead of only on release. Holding a full charge is no longer free, so the skill has an ongoing cost attached to it. The Deep Charge talent partly offsets this by recovering energy when a charged Flurry Strike actually connects, which rewards committed hits rather than defensive charging.

Note: damage figures shift with gear. Light and heavy attack chains landed between 171 and 346 per hit during testing, but those numbers scale with your Attack stat and should be treated as relative, not absolute.

Mercenary: Perfect Block stagger, energy costs, and removed dodge i-frames

Mercenary trades defensive safety for offensive payoff. Perfect Block now staggers the attacker, and shield values went up, which makes timed blocking a genuine opening rather than a way to survive one swing. Warhammer Sling animates faster, so light attack into cancel combos flow more cleanly than before.

The cost sits on the mobility side. Dodges performed under Leap Step, Dynamic Charge, and Relentless Advance no longer grant invincibility frames, and energy consumption is higher across the board. Skullcrusher drains energy the moment it starts up rather than on the hit, so dodging mid-skill leaves you both vulnerable and short on energy. The Punishing Hammer animation cancel that let players skip recovery has been removed.

Sorcerer: Thunderstrike flat damage and PvP reductions

Thunderstrike is the clearest buff in the update. The skill no longer scales damage down based on distance from the center of the impact, dealing a flat 138 across the whole area. Positioning enemies at the exact center no longer matters, which makes the skill far more consistent against moving groups.

Everything else on the class went the other direction. Meteor Charm and Gravitational Vortex took PvP damage reductions, landing single hits around 169 and 69 for Meteor Charm and roughly 120 for Gravitational Vortex in testing. Stardust Torrent had its channel time and damage distribution reworked, with damage ramping up over the beam’s duration. Shadow Veil now expires in about 10 seconds.

Stardust Tempest is the weakest link after the change. The movement speed slow drops off the instant a target leaves the zone, and a single dodge is enough to escape it, so it no longer functions as reliable area control.

Damage numbers appear above the target on hit, which is how the flat Thunderstrike value is confirmed.

Blackarrow: Steel Arrow cooldown and Spore Arrow damage

Blackarrow came out of the update largely intact. Steel Arrow’s cooldown was reduced, with a noticeably larger reduction applied in Trio Mode, so the skill comes back up faster in group play than in solo. Spore Arrow damage went up, while the Lasting Pain talent was pulled back to compensate.

An animation cancel on the class was also fixed. As with Mercenary, that removes a timing trick rather than changing any listed values, so the practical effect is a slightly slower attack chain in the hands of experienced players.

Solo Mode, enemy gear dots, and elevator safety railings

Brandgarde’s Normal and Cataclysm difficulties now support a Solo Mode, so both can be run without a group. Season Tasks were also adjusted, with completion requirements eased across the board.

Enemy gear quality is now visible before you commit to a fight. Colored dots appear above each enemy and map directly to loot tiers.

Safety railings have been added to every elevator platform inside towers. Accidental falls while riding an elevator are no longer possible.

How to verify the balance changes in the Training Room

Enter the Training Room with the class you want to check. Open Training Room Settings with the F1 key to configure the target bot before you start testing.

For Shadowstrix, stand against a wall and use Spinning Slash. The shortened forward travel is obvious against a fixed reference point, and the damage numbers appear above the bot on contact.
Use Phantom Shift twice, once moving away from the bot and once moving directly toward it. The speed boost only appears on the second attempt, which confirms the directional restriction is active.
Hold a Flurry Strike charge and watch the energy bar. If energy drains while you are still holding, the new consumption rule is live. Landing the charged hit with Deep Charge equipped returns energy.
For Mercenary, start Skullcrusher and dodge mid-animation. Energy drops immediately at startup and the dodge takes damage, confirming both the front-loaded cost and the removed i-frames.

The net effect is a flatter but slower field. Shadowstrix loses the instant-reaction mobility that defined it, Mercenary trades escape options for a stronger block, and Sorcerer gains reliability on Thunderstrike while giving up most of its control tools. If your class relied on an animation cancel to keep pace, that shortcut is gone and the rotation now runs at its intended speed.
