There is an ending in The Blood of Dawnwalker that most players will never trip over by accident, and it can be reached within minutes of the world opening up. Instead of hunting the Vrakhiri Court or storming Brencis, Coen simply walks out of the valley and never comes back. The credits roll, a trophy unlocks, and a short modern-day scene plays afterward.
Quick answer: At night, go to the Briar Sloughs area near the Coward’s Path Shrine, use Planeshift and Shadowstep to scale the canyon and cross the broken bridge, walk to the open gate, and pick [leave the valley forever] in the cutscene.
What actually triggers the escape ending
The trigger is a single dialogue choice, not a boss, a quest completion, or a hidden collectible. When Coen reaches the road leading out of Vale Sangora, he stops and notes that the way out has not been blocked, then weighs abandoning everyone behind him. The prompt that follows offers two options:
- [leave the valley forever] — ends the game immediately and rolls the credits.
- [stay in the valley] — returns you to normal play with nothing lost.
Because the second option is completely safe, you can walk up to the gate purely to see the prompt and back out of it. Nothing commits until you select the first line.

Two conditions gate the route, and both are about traversal rather than power level. You need the prologue finished so the map opens up, and you need it to be night, because the vampiric movement abilities only work after dark. Attempting the same path in daylight will not work — the canyon simply cannot be crossed as a human.
| Requirement | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Prologue completed | The open world and the Briar Sloughs region become reachable |
| Night-time | Planeshift and Shadowstep are only usable at night |
| Planeshift and Shadowstep | Used to climb the canyon and close the gap at the broken bridge |
| Clawride | Handles the vertical stone surfaces along the way |
No boss kills, infamy level, or story progress is required. You can still have early quest objectives sitting in your tracker when you do this.

Route to the gate out of Vale Sangora

How to confirm it worked
The confirmation is immediate and hard to miss. The screen cuts to Coen walking away, the full credits roll with the Rebel Wolves team card, and a post-credits sequence labelled PRESENT DAY plays afterward, showing a delivery driver walking into a modern crime scene with a body, blood, and a gun on the floor. Let it play to the end rather than skipping out at the credits.
Two unlocks should also pop:
| Trophy / Achievement | Condition |
|---|---|
| A Hero They Deserve (Bronze / 10G) | Escape Vale Sangora and leave everything behind |
| The Blood of Dawnwalker | Awarded for reaching any ending, including this one |
Why the ending does not trigger
Nearly every failed attempt comes down to one of three things.
- You went during the day. Shadowstep and Planeshift are unavailable, so the canyon crossing at the broken bridge cannot be made.
- You are at the wrong gate. The prompt only fires at the road out of the valley past the broken bridge, west of the Coward’s Path Shrine in Briar Sloughs.
- You picked the second line. Choosing [stay in the valley] cancels the ending and drops you back into the world.
What you give up by leaving
This is one of the game’s early endings, and it closes the story before Coen’s family is saved and before anything happens to the people of Laslea. The game still counts it as finishing the campaign for the main completion trophy, but it does not satisfy the Duelist difficulty completion requirement, which specifically depends on saving Laslea and therefore on the four full-length endings.
Tip: Make a manual save right before you cross the broken bridge. Reloading it puts you back in the valley with your progress intact, so you can collect this ending and then carry on toward whichever finale you were actually working toward.
Treated that way, the escape is one of the cheapest trophies in the game — a short night-time detour, one dialogue box, and a post-credits scene that quietly points somewhere well outside 14th-century Vale Sangora.
