Ambrus’s Transports: Roadside Surprise in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Roadside Surprise is one of the two Blood Transports jobs in Ambrus’s Court in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and it is one of the shortest entries in his activity list. You intercept a guarded shipment on the road, wipe out the escort, and then open the cargo they were protecting. What is inside the barrels is not blood.

Quick answer: Travel to the marker near Stoneward Post, east of Prior Slough, kill every guard around the transport, then interact with the yellow-highlighted barrels. A cutscene with Klaus the Brave plays, and finishing the dialogue completes the activity for 250 XP, 1 Skill Point, and 1 Kobold’s Blood.

The ambush point sits close to Stoneward Post, just east of Prior Slough. The escort is stationed on the road beside a large tree, with the transport barrels parked next to them.

Court Activities are not pinned to your map by default. Until you stumble onto one in the world, it stays listed as an “Unknown Activity” in the Court menu. Synchronising the 11 Towers early is the fastest way around that, since nearby activities then start appearing as white question marks on the map.

How to complete Roadside Surprise

Ride to the quest marker and approach the group standing guard over the transport. The objective in your journal reads “Defeat the guards”, and the escort turns hostile as soon as you are close enough.

Fight the escort in the open ground around the tree. These are ordinary human soldiers from the earliest stretch of Ambrus’s territory, so a standard sword loop of blocks and ripostes is enough, and nothing here requires vampire abilities.

Clear out the stragglers before touching anything. Keep your target lock on one soldier at a time and finish him off rather than spreading damage across the group, since the barrel interaction stays locked while enemies are still alive.

Loot the bodies before you move on. The fallen guards can drop gear and skill manuals, and clearing the site also adds the Uriash entry to your glossary.

Walk up to the transport and interact with the barrels highlighted in yellow. The objective updates to “Check the barrels”, and destroying them triggers a cutscene.

Talk to Klaus the Brave, who has been hiding inside one of the barrels. The exchange is short, he leaves on his own, and the activity is marked complete on the rewards screen.

Note: three time segments is the standard price for the longer Court Activities. If you are only a sliver short of a threshold and want to spend as little of Coen’s 30 days as possible, the Blood Cellars jobs cost a single segment each and are the cheaper option.

How it feeds Ambrus’s Anger meter

Every completed Court Activity pushes its owner’s Anger higher. Ambrus has 14 activities in total, and you do not need all of them — roughly 75 percent is enough to unlock his boss quest, The Gilded Gauntlet, which appears in southern Maragir. You can check exactly how far along you are from his portrait in the Court menu.

Roadside Surprise is one of the easiest contributions to that total. His region is built for level 1 and up, the fight involves no vampire enemies, and there is no investigation phase or optional branch attached to it.

If the barrels will not open

The barrel prompt only appears once the last guard is down. If nothing highlights when you walk up to the transport, sweep the surrounding trees and road for a soldier who broke away from the group during the fight.

You will know the activity has registered when the cutscene with Klaus ends and the completion screen lists the XP, Skill Point, and Kobold’s Blood. The entry also darkens in the Court menu, and Ambrus’s Anger bar ticks up.

Since the site sits in the same corner of the map as several other Ambrus jobs, it pairs well with a single trip out to Prior Slough. Clear it alongside Bloody Business, the other Blood Transports activity, and you knock out that whole category in one outing.
