The Blood of Dawnwalker: Scholar’s Map Treasure Location

Where the Scholar's Map skeleton sits, how to open the Highland Grave door, and what the chest holds.

Where the Scholar’s Map skeleton sits, how to open the Highland Grave door, and what the chest holds.

The Scholar’s Map is the treasure map that points Coen toward the Highland Grave ruins in the mountains above Rockfalls, and it comes bundled with the key you need to actually open the sealed door inside. Grab the map first, and the whole detour becomes a short walk followed by one careful conversation.

Quick answer: Take the road northeast from the Rockfalls Pasture Shrine and inspect the skeleton crushed under the cart to pick up the Scholar’s Map, Scholar’s Key, and Tattered Journal. Then head to the Rockfalls ruins northwest of that same shrine, tell the Uriash “I just want to look around,” and unlock the sturdy door with the Scholar’s Key.

Scholar’s Map location near Rockfalls Pasture Shrine

The map sits on a corpse in the snowy pass west of Rockfalls, and the fastest way to reach it is from the Rockfalls Pasture Shrine. That shrine unlocks once you retrieve its Shrine’s Heart from the Soldier Camp to the south, so handle that first if the fast travel point is still dark.

Fast travel to the Rockfalls Pasture Shrine and follow the road heading northeast. Wolf form makes the climb through the pass quicker if you have it available.
Watch the roadside for a wrecked wooden cart with a skeleton pinned underneath it. It is directly on the path, so there is no need to leave the road.
Inspect the remains. You receive the Scholar’s Map, the Scholar’s Key, and a Tattered Journal, and The Highland Grave quest begins immediately.

You can also start the quest by walking into the ruins first, without the map. That works, but the Scholar’s Key stays on the skeleton, and the key is the only thing that opens the door with the loot behind it. Picking up the map first saves a round trip.

Where the Scholar’s Map treasure is hidden

The treasure is inside the Rockfalls ruins, northwest of the Rockfalls Pasture Shrine and higher up the mountain than the cart. Tracking the quest paints a yellow search zone on the map rather than a precise pin, which is normal for the “Find the place marked on the map” objective.

Keep climbing until a stone tomb structure appears inside that zone. Two Uriashi are stationed there, guarding the inner chambers from anyone who has tried to break in before you.

The Uriash dialogue choice that avoids a fight

Uriash starts talking the moment you step inside. Pick “I just want to look around.” That single line keeps both guards passive and lets you move through the ruins without drawing a weapon.

From there, sneak past the guards to the locked interior door and open it with the Scholar’s Key. The prompt reads “Open the sturdy door,” which confirms you have the right key on you.

Highland Grave chest rewards

One chest sits behind the door, and taking everything inside closes out the quest.

Ancient Hero’s TalismanNecklace
Witchcraft ManualManual
Ring of Quick StrikesLegendary ring
250 XPQuest completion

The Ring of Quick Strikes is the standout pull here, and it slots neatly into an attack-speed build for Coen. Collect all three items to see The Highland Grave marked complete and the 250 XP awarded.

Looting the rest of the ruins without provoking the Uriashi

Vases and containers scattered around the guarded areas hold extra sellable items, and you can clear them out while the Uriashi remain calm. The catch is ownership. Anything highlighted in red counts as theft, and lifting it can alert the guards and force Coen into a fight.

Tip: If you want a clean sweep of the whole site, either skip the red-marked items entirely or deal with the Uriashi before looting, then take everything at your own pace.

Common reasons the door will not open

  • You reached the ruins before finding the skeleton, so the Scholar’s Key is still on the corpse near the cart.
  • You chose an aggressive dialogue line with Uriash, which turns the guards hostile and blocks a quiet approach.
  • You are searching too low on the mountain. The ruins sit northwest of the shrine, while the cart is northeast of it.

Handled in the right order, the whole thing is a ten-minute detour that ends with a legendary ring in hand and no blood spilled. The Tattered Journal you pick up alongside the map fills in who the scholar was and why they never made it up the mountain themselves.
