The Colosseum island in Sea 1 hides four stone statues that only respond to one type of damage each. Light all four and the island’s quest giver hands over one of the largest single EXP payouts in the game.
Quick answer: Hit each statue with the weapon it is holding — sword, Blox fruit, gun, and combat — until its eyes glow, then speak to Ulysses at the Colosseum to claim the reward.
Where the Colosseum statues are and what they do
The statues stand in the open courtyard area of the Colosseum island in Sea 1, in plain sight rather than behind a hidden door. Each one is carved holding a different piece of equipment, and that carving is the entire puzzle. A statue only reacts to attacks from the category it represents, and everything else bounces off with no effect.

When a statue registers the correct damage type, its eyes light up and stay lit. That glow is your only progress tracker, so check each statue before moving to the next one.
| Statue | Attack it accepts | Example | Eyes glow |
|---|---|---|---|
| Holding a sword | Any sword | Dark Blade, Cursed Dual Katana | Green |
| Holding a fruit | Blox fruit move | Dragon, Rocket | Purple |
| Holding a gun | Gun shot | Flintlock, Dual Flintlock | Yellow |
| Holding fists | Fighting style | Combat | Red |

Order does not matter. What matters is having all four damage types available before you start, so keep a sword, a fruit, a gun, and a fighting style equipped in your hotbar.

How to confirm the secret is complete
The moment the fourth statue lights up, a system message appears on screen: “The Former Champions salute you! Claim your reward from the quest giver.” That message is the confirmation that the puzzle is solved, not the glow on any single statue.
Head to Ulysses, the Colosseum quest giver, and interact with him. His dialogue offers “Toga Warrior”, “Gladiator”, “Rumor”, and “Nevermind” — the reward is handed over as soon as you talk to him after the statues are active.

He responds with “Good work. Here’s something for your trouble.” and the EXP lands immediately. One completion at level 2,778 paid out 834,954,217 EXP and pushed the character straight to level 2,783.

Why a statue won’t light up
Almost every failed attempt comes down to the damage category. Slashing the gun statue or punching the sword statue does nothing at all, no matter how much damage you deal, because each statue only counts hits from the equipment it is carved holding.
The fruit statue is the one that trips people up. Not every fruit move registers cleanly — an attempt using Tiger produced no reaction, and the statue only activated after swapping to Rocket and landing Missile Fist. If your fruit is not working, switch to one with an obvious projectile or ranged move such as Dragon or Rocket and try again.
Note: if you do not own a gun at all, buy a basic Flintlock before starting. There is no alternative way to trigger the gun statue.
What the completion counts toward
The statues are one of the Island Secrets added with the Sea 1 rework in Update 30, which spread 40 secrets across the 16 islands of the First Sea. Every secret you finish awards a star, and collecting all 40 stars unlocks the Teleporter in Middletown.
One thing worth clearing up: this is not the Colosseum Quest given by Bartilo. That one takes place in the Kingdom of Rose in the Second Sea, requires level 850, and involves a rune code and the Warrior Helmet. The statues are a separate Sea 1 secret with no level requirement attached to the puzzle itself, and the two share nothing beyond the name.
