MONOCHROME drops you into a sealed room inside a grayscale house, and the only way out runs through a network of corridors that something else is already walking. It is an escape room at heart, built around a fixed objective rather than combat, so the run comes down to searching fast, tracking what you have found, and knowing when to stop moving.

Quick answer: Press PLAY in the lobby, then ENTER THE HOUSE, then find four keys for the deadbolts and a four-digit code for the elevator. Press E to interact with everything and to hide inside closets when the monster is nearby.

The MONOCHROME escape objective: four keys and one code

Everything you do in a run feeds one goal. The exit is locked behind four deadbolts, and each deadbolt needs its own key pulled from somewhere in the corridors. Separately, an elevator needs a four-digit code. Neither half works alone, so a run is only finished when you hold all four keys and the code.

The monster is the complication. It controls the lights, which means visibility is never something you can count on for long, and it patrols the same corridors you are searching. Closets are the counter to it. Slipping into one and staying there is the intended way to break line of sight and let it move past you.

Note: the experience is flagged as early development, and a second part is in the works, so bugs are expected. Roblox rates it Mild for repeated but mild fear and violence.

MONOCHROME controls and key bindings

The full control set is short, and the on-screen prompts repeat it during play. E carries almost all of the interaction load, from prying boards off a doorway to opening a drawer to climbing into a closet.

M is the one to remember if you get stuck. It frees the cursor so you can click menu buttons without the camera dragging around with your mouse.

Starting a run: lobby, party menu, and tutorial

Launch the experience and press PLAY on the lobby screen. Servers hold up to 50 players, so the lobby usually has other people milling around before a run starts.
On the party menu, check the list of waiting players and press ENTER THE HOUSE. That button is what actually loads you into the sealed room and begins the run.

Read the TUTORIAL slides before you dismiss them. They cover The Monster, The Escape, and the Radar gamepass, and the arrow button on the right moves you from one page to the next.

Opening the first doorway and searching the house

Walk up to the boarded doorway marked DO NOT ENTER. Standing close enough surfaces a Plank / Pry prompt, and holding E strips the wooden planks away one at a time until the way through is clear.
Head down the stairs and start working the corridors. The layout behaves like a maze, and the fastest way to build a mental map is to note where each closet sits as you pass it.
Search furniture as you go. Dressers show a Drawer / Open prompt, and once a drawer is open the prompt flips to E Close so you can shut it again and keep track of what you have already checked.

Tip: closing drawers behind you is a cheap way to avoid re-searching the same dresser on a second lap through a corridor you have already cleared.

Sprinting, stamina, and hiding from the monster

Sprint is on Shift and it burns stamina, so it is a resource rather than a default movement speed. Save it for crossing open stretches or breaking away when the monster is already on you, and walk while you search. The HUD tracks your lives alongside the movement prompts, so you can see your run state without pausing.

Hiding is the reliable answer to the monster. Approach a closet, press E on the Closet / Hide prompt, and wait it out instead of trying to outrun it down a corridor you have not scouted. Because the monster manipulates the lighting, a corridor going dark is your cue to get inside the nearest closet rather than to push forward.

The torch on F is what keeps you moving once the lights are gone. It does not stop the monster, but it lets you read prompts and doorways in the dark instead of guessing at them.

The Radar and Night Vision Goggles gamepasses

Two paid items sit outside the base loop, and both are bound to their own keys once purchased. Neither is required to escape, and the tutorial calls out the Radar directly as an optional purchase.

Common reasons a run stalls

Most stalled runs come down to one of a few things rather than bad luck. Interaction prompts only appear when you are close enough and looking at the object, so if E does nothing, step in and re-aim before assuming the object is decorative. Boarded doorways need the pry action repeated until every plank is off, not a single press.

The other frequent problem is sprinting on reflex. Holding Shift through the corridors empties stamina before the moment you actually need it, which is the point where the lights drop and you are still a room away from a closet.

MONOCHROME is listed under Puzzle and Escape Room on Roblox and has passed two million visits, with the most recent update landing on 8/31/2026. The character at the center of it was originally created by boisvert, and the developer has said part two is still being built, so treat the current corridors as a first chapter rather than the finished thing.
