Michael Myers Abilities and Weapons in Halloween: The Game

Every Shape ability, starting weapon, killer skin, and the level or challenge that unlocks each one.

Every Shape ability, starting weapon, killer skin, and the level or challenge that unlocks each one.

Michael Myers starts every match with the same two traits, but almost everything else about him is something you earn. Abilities, starting weapons, tints, and killer skins all sit behind either a progression level or a specific challenge, and the loadout screen lets you save four different combinations of them.

Quick answer: Michael always carries Shape Jump and Killer Sense, then equips three abilities from a pool of six — Detection Pulse, Reality Tear, and Blackout are available immediately, Evil Presence unlocks at Level 40, Shape Mines at Level 60, and Shadow Strike through killer progression. Starting weapons follow the same pattern, with Wood Axe at Level 40, Pick-Axe at Level 60, and Pitchfork at Level 80.

Michael Myers traits and abilities (unlock levels)

Two traits are permanently attached to the killer loadout and cannot be swapped out. Shape Jump handles repositioning, and Killer Sense is the stalking tool that keeps track of where the residents of Haddonfield are hiding. Neither one occupies an ability slot.

On top of that, you choose three special abilities and slot them into positions 1, 2, and 3. Six abilities exist in total, so the choice is genuinely restrictive once everything is unlocked.

Starting weapons and their level requirements

Michael’s starting weapon is chosen in the loadout, not found in the world. Five options exist, and three of them are gated behind killer levels that sit fairly deep into progression. Each weapon also carries its own earnable tints.

There is a second reason to rotate weapons rather than settle on one. Weapon Level is its own progression track, earned by killing with a specific equippable weapon, so sticking to the Kitchen Knife leaves the other four tracks at zero along with the rewards attached to them.

Saving four killer loadouts

The loadout system gives you four slots, numbered Loadout 0 through Loadout 3. Each one stores its own weapon, its own three abilities, and its own cosmetic setup, so you can build a stealth-leaning kit and an aggressive one and switch between them without rebuilding from scratch each match.

Tip: build at least one loadout around a weapon you have not levelled yet. Since Weapon Level only moves when that specific weapon lands the kill, a dedicated slot makes it easy to grind a track without touching your main setup.

All Michael Myers killer skins and how to unlock them

Eight killer skins are in circulation. Three are handed to you at the outset, and the rest are tied to prestige levels, challenge collections, or the singleplayer story mode. Phantom is the pre-order bonus skin.

Physical copies of the game also come with advance access to the Clown skin and a set of civilian cosmetics, alongside an 11×17 poster.

1978 and Patient skin tints

Two skins carry six additional tints each. The 1978 mask pulls its tints from a mix of progressive challenges, passive challenge tiers, and the story mode, while every Patient tint sits inside a single progressive challenge section labeled Inmate Michael.

Which progression track feeds each Michael unlock

Experience is split across four separate level tracks, and only some of them push Michael’s loadout forward. Understanding which is which saves a lot of wasted effort if you are chasing a specific weapon or skin.

Level trackWhat it feeds
Profile LevelAll XP regardless of role; prestige unlocks the Clown skin
Killer LevelMichael’s abilities, starting weapons, executions; prestige unlocks Scorched
Weapon LevelRewards tied to each individual equippable weapon
Civilian LevelCivilian characters and their cosmetics only

XP counts whether it comes from online 1v4 matches, private matches against AI, or the singleplayer story mode. That last one matters more than it sounds — the story chapters are the only place to earn the 1978 Tint 7 and the Ghost skin, since both are locked behind chapter challenges rather than multiplayer performance.

Why an ability, weapon, or skin stays locked

An unlock lands the moment its condition is met, and it shows up as selectable in the relevant loadout screen — the ability appears in the special abilities list, the weapon becomes equippable on the Starting Weapon screen, and a skin becomes selectable under Appearance. If something is still greyed out, the cause is almost always one of a few things.

  • You are checking Profile Level when the requirement is Killer Level, or the reverse. The two move at different rates.
  • The challenge is a progressive one, meaning the objectives in that section must be cleared in order rather than in whichever order you prefer.
  • The requirement is a prestige level, which only becomes available after hitting the maximum level in that category first.
  • The unlock comes from the story mode chapters, which multiplayer matches will never progress.

Early access is live ahead of the digital launch on September 8th for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, with physical PS5 and Xbox Series editions arriving October 6th. If you plan to chase the prestige-gated skins, starting the story chapters early is the efficient move — those challenges run in parallel with your killer levelling rather than competing with it.
