Marvel Rivals is breaking its steady one-hero-a-month rhythm for Season 10: Butcher’s Blasphemy. Instead of the usual two-character rollout across a full season, the update brings a single new fighter and shifts its mid-season energy toward event content tied to the wider Avengers storyline.
Quick answer: Season 10 adds only Gorr the God Butcher, a melee-focused Duelist, at launch. There is no second hero in Season 10.5. Two new heroes are confirmed to return in Season 11.

Gorr the God Butcher is the only new Season 10 hero
Gorr enters as the game’s 54th playable character and slots into the Duelist role as a melee threat built around aggression. His kit centers on the All-Black Necrosword, which also lets him move quickly across the battlefield, and a scythe that gives him added reach in close fights.
His signature mechanic is execution. Gorr can finish off weakened enemies and convert their remains into Black Berserkers, AI-controlled attackers that fight alongside him much like Magik’s Minions. His ultimate empowers the Necrosword for a short window, letting him deal heavy burst damage before it fades.
The character has been telegraphed for a while. Season 9’s cinematic showed a figure wielding the Necrosword striking down Apocalypse and Khonshu, and the launch trailer for Season 10 follows that thread with Gorr confronting Thor and Loki.

Why there is no second hero this season
Normally a full Marvel Rivals season delivers one hero at launch and another around the mid-season mark. Season 10 drops that second slot. In Dev Vision Vol. 21, the developers explained that the mid-season update (Season 10.5) will instead run Phase 3 and Phase 4 of the Path to Doomsday events, which arrive as brand-new game modes rather than a new character. That content ties into the Avengers: Doomsday film due in December.
The studio was clear that this is a one-off, not a permanent slowdown. As the direction put it, “A single-hero season isn’t the new normal,” with two new heroes confirmed for Season 11. Nightcrawler, once rumored for Season 10 alongside Gorr, did not make this update and remains a candidate for a later slot.
Season 10 release date and time
Season 10 launches on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 9:00 AM UTC, closing out Season 9: The Mystery of Thebes with no gap between the two. Expect a maintenance window of roughly two hours before the game is fully playable. Your account, cosmetics, and battle pass purchases all carry over; only the competitive ladder and the battle pass track reset.

New map, events, and skins schedule
A new map called the God Quarry, described as a graveyard of gods, arrives after launch and connects directly to the seasonal story. Alongside it, pyjama-themed skins come to several heroes, including Cloak & Dagger, Jeff the Land Shark, Magneto, Luna Snow, Mantis, Rogue, and Daredevil.
| Date | Content |
|---|---|
| September 11 | Season 10 launch, Gorr, new Battle Pass, rank reset, balance changes |
| September 17 | Jeff’s Dream Eater event with matching costumes and cosmetic rewards |
| September 24 | God Quarry map and the return of Galacta’s Gift (Costume Coin reward) |
| Season 10.5 | Path to Doomsday Phase 3 and Phase 4 as new game modes |
| Season 11 | Two new playable heroes return to the schedule |
Competitive rank reset
As a full season, Season 10 triggers a six-division drop, which equals two full tiers. Your starting rank is measured against where you finished Season 9, and end-of-season rewards are tied to your peak rank rather than your final placement.
| Season 9 finish | Season 10 starting rank |
|---|---|
| Celestial III | Diamond III |
| Grandmaster I | Platinum I |
| Diamond II | Gold II |
| Platinum III | Silver III |
| Gold III | Bronze III |
Balance changes and the Scarlet Witch rework
Roughly 70% of the roster is affected by tuning in Season 10. Scarlet Witch receives the biggest single change, an overhaul that adds a new passive applying Chaos Marks to enemies. She gains bonus health by attacking marked targets and can hit multiple enemies carrying the debuff. A new shockwave ability, Scarlet Hex, also applies Chaos Marks, and her ultimate now deals continuous damage while winding up to its full explosion.
| Role | Nerfed | Buffed |
|---|---|---|
| Vanguard | Magneto, The Thing, The Hood | Captain America, Emma Frost, Devil Dinosaur, Rogue, Deadpool (Vanguard) |
| Duelist | Black Cat (i-frames), Winter Soldier, Elsa Bloodstone, Black Widow, Magik | Namor, Star-Lord, Iron Fist, Wolverine, Psylocke |
| Strategist | Cloak & Dagger, Mantis, plus an across-the-board ult energy conversion nerf | Jeff the Land Shark, Loki, White Fox |

New Competitive ban rules
Competitive Mode changes how hero bans work. Teams now take turns banning and revealing heroes through a voting system, and you cannot double-ban the same hero. Whichever side bans a hero, that hero is locked out for both teams for the rest of the match. The new system applies at Gold III and above.
| Order | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Team A bans one hero (revealed) |
| 2 | Team B bans two heroes (revealed) |
| 3 | Team A bans two heroes (revealed) |
| 4 | Team B bans one hero (revealed) |
Why Loki disappeared before launch
Ahead of the season, Loki was disabled in Quick Play and Practice vs. AI while remaining available in Custom and Competitive modes, with his portrait stamped out on the selection screen. That selective removal is a deliberate story tease rather than a bug. Gorr’s history revolves around hunting and killing gods, so the God of Mischief becoming an early target fits the season’s narrative. A teaser at the end of the trailer shows a single feather falling onto Loki, hinting he may return later.
The single-hero format may disappoint players who expected two additions, but the trade this time is more event content built around the Doomsday crossover, with the standard two-hero cadence set to resume in Season 11.
