The Kingslayer is a legendary greatsword in The Blood of Dawnwalker built entirely around defense. It widens the perfect block window, cuts the stamina drain of blocking and attacking, and refunds extra stamina every time you land a perfect block. For a counter-focused Coen, it is one of the strongest mid-game blades you can carry, and the fastest way to get it does not involve a single quest.

Quick answer: Grab a shovel from the woodpile near Boar’s Back, travel to the dirt mound on the riverbank west of Svartrau City, and dig it up. The Kingslayer is inside the buried chest.

What The Kingslayer does

The sword scales with the level you pick it up at, so the exact numbers on your copy will differ. Its identity does not change, though. Slow attack speed, heavy damage per swing, and a stat block that rewards parrying instead of dodging.

StatValue
TypeLegendary Greatsword
Attack SpeedSlow
Perfect Block Window+45% to +55%
Block Stamina Cost-21.6% to -26.4%
Stamina Gain From Perfect Block+27% to +33%
Attack Stamina Cost-27% to -33%
Weapon Art Cooldown15s
Weight2.30

Pick it up later and the ranges land at the higher end. A level 36 copy, for example, sits around 467 DPS with a 319-456 damage spread and the full +55% perfect block window. A level 21 copy from the quest route lands nearer the lower figures. Its weapon art is a three-slash combo on a 15-second cooldown.

Note: The blade carries no bonuses to critical hit chance, critical damage, or damage against supernatural enemies. Those columns read 0%. If you want a blade for vampires and undead, the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai covers that role instead.

This is the quickest route and it has no quest prerequisites. The chest belongs to the Bandit’s Treasure Map: Riverbank activity, but you do not need the map in your inventory to interact with the mound. You only need a shovel and the location.

Head to the farm area near Boar’s Back and look for the wooden log shelter with the woodpile beside it. A shovel is leaning against it.
Walk up to the shovel and take it. The prompt reads “Steal Shovel,” so expect the usual theft reaction if anyone is watching you.

Open your map and set a marker on the riverbank west of Svartrau City. Track it so the waypoint stays on your compass while you travel.

Travel to the spot on the riverbank. The dirt mound sits between trees, near a large rock, close to the water’s edge.

Interact with the mound to dig. Coen spends one hour of the day-night cycle doing it, so factor that into your remaining time if you are running tight.
Open the container that surfaces and take The Kingslayer. The loot menu also holds Denarius and other gear, including armor such as the Rebel’s Sturdy Coat of Plates and consumables like Beast’s Bone Brew.

You will know it worked when the loot window opens with “The Kingslayer” listed under Legendary Greatsword. If the mound gives no prompt at all, you are missing the shovel — it is a hard requirement, not an optional tool.

Two other ways to pick up the sword

The dig is not the only source. If you have already burned past that area or missed it, the blade shows up in two more places.

RouteWhat you do
Forge it Anew: Executive OrderClear the soldier outpost during the sword shard hunt. One of the tougher guards drops it as a level 21 legendary greatsword. Loot every body before you leave.
Silver Trader, Svartrau CityBuy it outright from the vendor’s weapon stock when it is available.

The quest route is worth knowing because you are likely to be in that camp anyway. Executive Order is the final leg of the shard hunt, and the sword shard itself is in a chest inside the main tent. The Kingslayer is a bonus drop from the fight, not the objective.

Fighting with it

The slow swing speed means whiffing hurts, but the widened parry window covers a lot of sloppy timing. Every successful perfect block feeds stamina straight back, so you can hold a block, absorb a combo, and still have the bar for a full weapon art. Against groups of human enemies, that loop keeps you fighting long after a faster blade would leave you empty.

If you are early enough in the game that the riverbank is a long detour, Durandal from The Cursed Chasm near Coward’s Path Shrine fills the gap. But once The Kingslayer is in your hands, it holds up well into the mid-game, and legendary weapons can be leveled at a blacksmith to keep pace with you.
