The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Break the Home Sweet Home Dream Loop

The well beside the second enemy group is the only exit, and the exact objective order that follows it.

The well beside the second enemy group is the only exit, and the exact objective order that follows it.

Home Sweet Home drops Coen back into a nightmare version of the prologue at Laslea, and the sequence is designed to repeat forever. You talk to your family, a winged creature takes Pieter, you fight two groups of aetheric monsters, you beat the boss, and then you wake up in the same house to do it all again. Repeating the intended route never ends it. The exit is an object you have to notice on a replay.

Quick answer: On your second run through the dream, defeat the second group of specters, then hold Focus Mode (L2/LT) and inspect the bloody well covered in snow instead of heading for the boss. A voice speaks from the well and you spawn outside a cave, which starts the memory sequence that ends the loop.

Decide before you use the well: escaping locks out Together Forever

The dream has two outcomes and the quest is not repeatable. Breaking the loop returns Coen to the open world and rewards the Astrologer’s Ring. Staying inside gives you the secret ending and the Together Forever trophy.

To get the ending, ignore the well and complete four full cycles, killing every enemy group and the boss each time. At the start of the fifth cycle, talking to your family ends the game and rolls credits. If you want both, keep a manual save before the fourth boss kill, take the ending, then reload and use the well.

Home Sweet Home requirements and combat rules

The quest is hidden and unmarked. It starts at Silts Tower on the south-west edge of the map, in a high-level part of Vale Sangora, so arriving underleveled is the main reason people get stuck inside. Enter on the ground floor, clear the soldiers and the miniboss on the way up, then interact with the door on the top floor.

Inside the dream, enemies scale to your level but your equipment does not come with you. Coen wears plain clothes and swings his old sword, so every fight takes far longer than usual. Vampire form is unavailable, which means healing comes from food you loot out of containers, and Witchcraft abilities such as Burning Blood are your best damage. Burning Blood also knocks the flying boss, the Keeper of Nightmares, out of the air, as does a clean parry.

Note: Make a manual save in the open world before you touch the door. If the fights prove too hard, reloading is the clean way back out.

How to break the dream loop in Home Sweet Home

Play the first cycle exactly as prompted. Split the firewood if you want, enter the house, talk to your family, then clear the four sword-wielding specters and the three-specter group before defeating the Keeper of Nightmares. The Blood Mass cutscene plays and you respawn back in the house.
On the second run, fight through to the second enemy group, the one that frees your siblings. This is the village area where Lunka and Yanna are cowering, and the objective is still telling you to rescue your family.

Do not follow the marker toward the boss. Hold Focus Mode (L2/LT) and look for the bloody well covered in snow, which highlights in yellow. A voice starts calling Coen toward it if you linger, and the objective changes to finding out where the voice is coming from.
Interact with the well and speak to the reflection, which tells Coen it is him. Work through the dialogue until it asks you to say his name, then pick the option to shout for Alin. You spawn in front of a cave entrance.
Shadowstep up the cliff wall, crawl through the cave, and step into the red portal at the far end to move further into the memory.

The portal drops you into the funeral inside the church. Help the priest recall the sermon by using Focus Mode and interacting with the figures in this order: Alin, then Esme, then Coen. The locked door at the back of the church opens.
Leave through the newly opened door and chase the ghostly boy through the passage. He leads you into a second red portal.

Investigate the meadow. Three objects trigger Coen’s memories here, the old swing, the doll Alin made, and the ice skates resting on a log. Finish by inspecting the red glowing tree stump.

Climb the cliff and clawride down the steep snowy slope, then follow the riverbed at the bottom. This is the spot where Alin fell through the ice.

Finish the conversation with Alin’s ghost. He asks Coen to forgive himself and tells him none of it was his fault before wishing him luck, which ends the dream. Any dialogue option here works; the sequence closes once the exchange is done.

Why the well isn’t showing up in Focus Mode

The well cannot be used on your first pass through the dream. It only becomes interactive from the second replay onward, up to the fourth, so you must complete one full cycle including the Keeper of Nightmares before it will respond.

Timing inside the cycle matters too. The well sits by the second enemy group, and you need that fight cleared before inspecting it. If you rush past toward the winged boss on the replay, the loop simply resets and you repeat the whole run.

How to confirm the loop is broken and claim the Astrologer’s Ring

Coen wakes in the basement of Silts Tower and you are back in the open world, which is the clearest sign the sequence is over. An enemy attacks almost immediately. Kill it and loot the body before you leave, because that drop is the Astrologer’s Ring. Walking away without looting means walking away without the reward, since the quest cannot be replayed.

Astrologer’s Ring bonusEffect
Witchcraft damageIncreased Witchcraft Ability Damage
Charge generationIncreased Activation Charge Restoration from Actions
CooldownsReduced Witchcraft Ability Cooldown
Passive regenIncreased Passive Activation Charge Restoration

The ring suits a Witchcraft build that burns through Activation Charges quickly, since the restoration bonuses and cooldown reduction feed each other. It pairs well with sustain options such as Soul Reaping or the legendary Runic Enchantment armor piece.

Once you are back on your feet, it is worth heading up Silts Tower again while you are here. The chests you passed on the climb hold crafting materials and occasionally purple-quality gear, and a Flask of Quicksilver sits on one of the tables, which the Bulwark Against Darkness quest later asks for.
