Fisch: How to Get the Budling Companion in the Living Garden

Budling is the companion added to Fisch in the Minor Update released on September 12, 2026, and it is the only one so far that you unlock by walking it somewhere rather than fishing, feeding, or buying it. The whole thing happens in the Living Garden, deep inside the Lost Jungle, and the escort punishes one specific mistake: water.

Quick answer: Travel to the Living Garden inside the Lost Jungle, find Budling wandering with a seed, press E to accept its request, then walk it slowly across the side bridges to the garden patch at the back. Do not let it touch water. It plants the seed and the companion unlocks on arrival.

What you need before going to the Living Garden

The Living Garden sits past the Toxic Cave, so the trip kills unprepared players long before Budling is a concern. Sort these out first.

Toxic Cave quest	The cave door stays shut until the prerequisite quest is done. If you arrive and the door will not open, that quest is the reason.

A boat and a glider	You need a boat to cross the ocean to the Lost Jungle, and a glider makes the jungle descent to the cave entrance far faster.

Route to the Living Garden through the Toxic Cave

Open the menu from the top-left of the screen and spawn your boat at the shore. Set a course for the Lost Jungle waypoint and cross the ocean.

Once ashore, head inland and glide down through the jungle. Follow the path past the waterfall until you reach the cave entrance.

Equip the Gas Mask before you step inside, then follow the cave path downward. There is only one main route, so you do not need to hunt for branching tunnels.

When the path meets toxic water, open the menu again and spawn the Toxic-Proof Raft. Ride it across, then continue on foot to the far side, where the Living Garden opens up.

Finding Budling in the Living Garden

Budling wanders around the Living Garden holding a random seed. It is a small sprout with a flower on its head, and it looks close enough to the other garden NPCs that it is easy to walk straight past.

The spawn is not guaranteed on every server. If you sweep the area and it is not there, rejoining a fresh server is the most reliable fix — there is no known way to force it to appear.

How to complete the Budling escort quest

Walk up to Budling and press E on the Talk prompt. It asks you to take it to the garden past the water. Choose “I’ll take you there.” to begin — picking “Not right now.” ends the conversation without starting anything.

Walk, do not sprint ahead. Budling follows you on foot, and if you get too far in front it stops keeping up and gets left behind. Turn around every few seconds to check it is still trailing you.

Take the side bridges over the water rather than swimming or jumping in. Budling cannot swim, and the route to the garden is designed so that every water crossing has a bridge.

Keep going deeper until you reach the garden patch at the back of the area. Budling plants its seed there on its own — there is no second prompt to press and nothing to claim manually.

How to confirm Budling unlocked

Two on-screen messages fire the moment the escort succeeds. You will see “Budling planted its seed!” followed by “[Companion Unlocked: Budling]”. After that, press C to open the Companion Satchel and Budling will be listed there ready to equip. Only one companion can be equipped at a time.

Budling levels like every other companion, from level 1 to 10, earning XP from catching fish (+10), interacting with it (+5), walking it for 10 seconds (+1), and Companion Candy (+1,500).

Why the escort fails and resets

There are only two real ways to lose the run, and both are avoidable.

Budling touches water. It sinks and teleports back to its starting point, so you have to walk the entire route again from the beginning. Jumping into the water yourself will drag it in after you.
You outrun it. Sprinting ahead or gliding over a gap leaves Budling stranded behind you, and it will not catch up on its own.

Note: the route is short. Walking it at normal speed costs well under a minute, which is far cheaper than repeating the whole thing after a reset.

What Budling does once equipped

Budling’s in-game description reads: “A small sprout with a flower on its head, because when it’s planted in the ground, a flower is born.” Its eyes glow blue once night falls, which is the only confirmed visual change so far.

The patch notes are deliberately vague about the numbers, saying only that Budling “might have some little neat passives that no other Companion can offer.” Nothing beyond that has been pinned down yet, so treat any claims about specific bonuses as untested until the effect is documented.

For now, the hardest part of the whole process is simply finding Budling on your server. Once it is standing in front of you, the unlock comes down to walking slowly and staying on the bridges.
