Quick answer: Sanctity governs healing magic and Light magic attacks, as its description puts it: “Affects healing magic and Light magic attacks.” Its total combines a character’s Spirit with Sanctity from their weapon and armor. Raise it by gaining levels, equipping Sanctity gear (Fina’s bows are especially strong options), or using Visions such as Leah and Ayaka whose Mastery Rank bonuses increase Spirit.

What Sanctity does in Final Fantasy Resonance

On Equipment & Abilities, Sanctity appears with Phys. Atk., Phys. Def., Mag. Atk., and Mag. Def. among the battle stats. For its definition, open “Attribute Descriptions (Part 1)” at System Menu > Help > Attributes: “Sanctity: Affects healing magic and Light magic attacks.” The same Help page defines Magic defense as “Affects damage received from magic attacks.”

The Help page that defines Sanctity: “Affects healing magic and Light magic attacks.”

The next page, “Attribute Descriptions (Part 2)”, names the attribute behind it: “Spirit: Affects magic defense and sanctity.” Spirit is what feeds Sanctity, and it raises Mag. Def. at the same time. That means a point of Spirit always does something, even on a character who never heals or casts Light magic.

Those are the three rows that matter for Sanctity:

Spirit“Affects magic defense and sanctity.”

How Sanctity is calculated on the stats screen

Open Main Menu > Equipment & Abilities and compare two characters. Rain at Lv.12, equipped as a Sentinel with a Longsword, Black Garb, and Earrings of Health, shows Spirit 65 and Sanctity 65. The numbers match because nothing he wears carries Sanctity.

Rain at Lv.12: Sanctity and Spirit both read 65.

At Lv.11, Fina has Spirit 73 and Sanctity 110 while serving as a Medic with a Shortbow and Leather Robe. The 37-point difference comes from the Shortbow’s 27 Sanctity and the Leather Robe’s 10. In short: Sanctity equals Spirit plus Sanctity from equipped gear.

Light ray and cross symbols on skill tooltips

The “Power of Skills” Help page (page 3 of 3) explains the icons that tell you which stat a skill runs on: “Light ray symbol: Denotes power of attacks affected by the sanctity attribute. Cross symbol: Denotes healing power.” The light ray is the same icon used for Sanctity on the stats screen. Hover a skill in battle and its tooltip shows the symbol with a bar. A light ray bar means the skill’s power runs on Sanctity, and a cross bar means healing power.

How to raise Sanctity

There are three ways to push the number up: levels, gear, and Visions. No accessory adds Spirit or Sanctity, so those slots won’t help here.

Level up

Spirit goes up when a character levels, and Sanctity climbs with it. The LEVEL UP screen lists both stats as old > new, so you can confirm the gain right away. Examples are in the level-up tables of the stats guide.

Equip gear with Sanctity

Some weapons and armor list a Sanctity value next to their Phys. and Mag. stats, and bows, Fina’s weapon type, carry it most often. The Shortbow sells for 600 Gil at the Town of Felicitas weapon shop, shows Sanctity 27 in the shop comparison, and lifts Fina’s Sanctity by 27 once equipped.

The table below lists all 67 weapons and armor that carry Sanctity, highest first. Full stats for each piece are in the bows list, the armor list and the weapons list.

Use Visions that add Spirit

Ten Visions add Spirit through Mastery Rank bonuses, and that Spirit flows straight into Sanctity. The MRP each rank needs is in the Vision Mastery Rank guide.

Healing and Light boosts outside the Sanctity number

Some effects raise healing or Light damage directly without touching the Sanctity stat itself.

  • At 0 stars, Leah and Ayaka each have the passive “Healing Magic +30%”.
  • Cecil has the passive “Healing Magic +20%” at 1 star; Leah gains “Healing Magic +10%” at MR 3.
  • “Increases potency of healing magic by 20%.” on Arch Robe, Elysium, and the Blessed Pendant accessory, a reward of the side quest “Shimmering Reflections”.
  • The 10% version on Artemis Bow, Cure Drop, Seraphim Bow, Fortune’s Maul, Jacket of Restoration, Tome of Grace, and Lorica Sancta.
  • Lorica Sancta also “Increases stagger power and damage dealt by Light attacks by 30%.”
  • At 3 stars, Ayaka’s Divine Tidings passive reads: “When multicasting healing magic, doubles MP cost, but also doubles potency.”

Spirit also pays off in one unusual place. Sephiroth’s Jenova Cells “Increases strength, stamina, and magic. Amount increased scales with spirit up to a max of 25%.”

Which characters benefit from Sanctity

Fina is the party’s Medic, described in the Roles tutorial as “Medic: Supports the party with healing.” She is the main Sanctity user. Shining Arrow, Holy Ray, and Luminant Cannon are all hers, her Cure line heals off the stat, and her bows carry the most Sanctity. Sakura, a Commando, picks up Luminant Glim at Lv.19. Both skill lists are in the playable characters guide.

Those options aren’t exclusive to Fina and Sakura. Give any character the Leah Vision and they gain Banish and Cure, then Cura, Curaga and Raise as the Vision awakens, letting you make any party member a Light attacker or secondary healer. Leah and Ayaka are the two Medic Visions. Even characters that use neither Light nor healing spells benefit from Spirit through Mag. Def., so Spirit boosts still help them.
