Grand Blue spreads its trainers, quest givers, and merchants across three islands, and running blind between them wastes far more time than any fight. Each island has a clear role, and each NPC sits at a fixed landmark you can navigate to. Here is where everyone stands and what they give you when you talk to them.
Quick answer: NPCs fall into three groups: fighting-style trainers, quest givers, and shops. Sort by island first (Anchor Town, Clown Town, Maple Village), then find the NPC by role using the tables below.

The three islands and their level ranges
Progression runs left to right through the islands. Anchor Town is where you start and learn the basics, Clown Town is the mid-game hub, and Maple Village holds the late-game content. Match your level to the island before you sail.
| Island | Level range | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| Anchor Town | 1–30 | Starter quests, first trainers, and the Marine Base |
| Clown Town | 30–70 | New swords, guns, items, and the Loki questline |
| Maple Village | 70+ | Bigger ships, farming gear, and late-game quest givers |

Add to Google Preferences →Fighting style trainers and where they stand
Trainers teach fighting styles and skills, and every one of them locks the payoff behind a grind-heavy quest chain you must finish before you master the style. Loki is the exception worth remembering: he appears in two places, and you start his Trickster quest in Anchor Town before finishing it in Clown Town.
| NPC | Fighting style | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Wallace | Brawler | Anchor Town — docks on the right, near the fishing shop |
| Shiro | Novice Swordsman | Anchor Town — cliffs by the pond, left of town |
| Sushi | King’s Punch | Anchor Town — the training dummy area |
| Loki | Trickster | Anchor Town harbor (left side); Clown Town Ferris Wheel |
| Captain Esopo | Marksman | Maple Village — grassy cliff by the Black Noir Pirates Raid area |
The Brawler style also asks for physical training such as push-ups and sit-ups on top of a currency cost, so budget time for it rather than assuming Gold alone unlocks it.

Quest givers by island
Quest givers drive progression and pay out Gold, Treasure Maps, and occasionally a Cursed Fruit. Some quest names are not yet listed in-game and appear as TBA below.

| Almighty Calvin | Wizards Apprentice | On a rock, right of the Blacksmith building |
| Keeper Otis | Keeper of the Flame | Top of the Lighthouse |
| Captive Swordsman | Tyrannical Captain | Tied to a cross inside the Marine Base |
| Craftsman Henry | Crafting | Inside the Blacksmith building, near the City |
| Fisherman Jack | Fisherman Jack Challenge | On the docks |
| Two-Worm Terry | Wormless Terry | Beach, near Captain Jack’s Sea Sailer Shop |
| Jay Vonera | Pay 25G to open the gate | Left of the Marine Base gate |

Almighty Calvin’s Wizards Apprentice quest is a one-time route that rewards Calvin’s Treasure, a chest that can hand you an early Cursed Fruit. Buy the shovel he asks for, dig up every marked object, and return to him.

Clown Town quest givers
| NPC | Quest | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Mayor Kiyoshi | Circus Suppliers | Outside a house in the Harbor area |
| Johnny Nibblebottom | Revenge of the Nibblebottom | Town entrance from the Clownival side |
| Gambit | Repeatable clown kills | On the mini-horse ride in the Clownival |

| Mei | Explosive Research | In a tent at the Clownival |
Johnny’s Clown Officer quest and the Mayor’s chain toward the Buggy Clown boss are the mainstay leveling loop here. Run Johnny’s repeatable while the boss is available so the credit overlaps.
Maple Village quest givers

|---|---|---|
| Farmer Joe | Green Thumb | Near a small farm, straight from the Mansion entrance |
| Tara | Something Isn’t Right | In front of the house with Farmer Joe |

| Remy | Stocked for a Siege | Inside the Mansion kitchen |

Shops and merchants
Merchants take your Gold for weapons, ships, fishing gear, and farming supplies, and the Merchant NPC buys unwanted loot back. The Smuggler and the Merchant each show up on two islands.
| NPC | Sells | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Smuggler | Weapons, accessories, outfits, equipment | Anchor Town harbor stall; Clown Town by Mayor Kiyoshi’s house |
| Merchant | Buys your items for Gold | Anchor Town harbor stall; Clown Town near Beast Tamer spawn |
| Ricky | Worms and Fishing Rods | Anchor Town docks, near Wallace |
| Captain Jones | Rowboat and Transponder Snail | Anchor Town — inside Captain Jack’s Sea Sailer Shop |
| Brother Chuckles | Katana and outfit | Clown Town — inside the weapon shop |
| Merry | Biggest ship (15,000 Gold) | Maple Village — the dockside building |
| Charlie | Seeds, Watering Cans, farming gear | Maple Village — garden left of the Mansion |
| Tomoe | Gullport Maritime Trust bank account | At sea, aboard a ship on open water |
Making sure a quest counts
The most common reason early progress stalls is fighting without the right quest highlighted. Kills logged while a quest is inactive do not count toward its objective, so check the tracker before you start clearing enemies.
A successful turn-in shows a confirmation like “Leveled up! (14 -> 15)” followed by “Gained +4 stat points!”. Quests marked with a purple exclamation point also pay Celestial Coins, the game’s premium currency. If a marker sits inside terrain or an NPC offers nothing, return to the previous story contact, finish the earlier hand-in, and leave combat before approaching again.
New NPCs arrive as the game expands, and names occasionally shift between updates while it stays in Early Access, so treat the in-game map labels as the final word when a landmark no longer matches.
