Skills in Grand Blue are unlocked separately from the weapons and fighting styles they belong to. Equipping a Katana does not hand you its sword arts, and eating into a fighting style does not fill your hotbar. Instead, more than 30 skills drop from specific enemies, bosses, and quests, and you have to farm each one on its own.
Quick answer: Most skills drop from named mob NPCs, minibosses, and island bosses at fixed chances; a handful come from crafting or trainer quests. When a skill unlocks, accept the equip prompt, and it becomes usable on every weapon of that same type in your inventory.

How skill unlocking works in Grand Blue
Skills are not bought from a menu. You earn them by defeating the required enemy or finishing the required quest. Once a skill is unlocked, it applies to that entire weapon category, so unlocking Sword Lunge makes it available on every sword you own, not just the one you were holding.
When a drop lands, a prompt appears that reads “You unlocked the skill Sword Lunge! Would you like to equip it?” Accept it to put the skill straight on your hotbar. If you miss the prompt, open the character/inventory screen and equip the skill from ability storage. An unequipped skill does nothing, so confirm it is on the hotbar before testing it.
Skills level up through use and can later be upgraded for extra damage or changed behavior. You can start farming in Grand Blue on Roblox at any time, since the game is free to play.

Two skills are locked behind quests rather than random drops, so they are the most reliable to pick up. Strong Punch comes from the opening tutorial, and King’s Punch comes from a trainer at Anchor Town.
| Skill | Stats | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
| Strong Punch | Damage: 20 [+1 per Level, +6.67 per Upgrade] Windup: 0.9s [-0.18s per Upgrade] Energy Cost: 50 [-10 per Upgrade] | Complete the Officer Graves tutorial quest. |
| King’s Punch | Damage: 14 [+0.7 per Level, +4.67 per Upgrade] Range: 14 [+4.67 per Upgrade] Cooldown: 30s [-6s per Upgrade] | Complete Sushi’s Training Quest, from the NPC near the training dummies at Anchor Town. |
Slingshot skills from crafting
The Slingshot has four skills, and all of them are unlocked by crafting the matching ammo at a Crafting Table and consuming it. The Slingshot itself drops from the Captain Esopo boss at Maple Village. Because these are crafted rather than random, they are guaranteed once you have the materials.

| Lead Star | Damage: 10 [+0.5 per Level, +3.33 per Upgrade] Speed: 100 [+33.3 per Upgrade] Windup: 0.4s [-0.08s per Upgrade] | Consume the Lead Ball, crafted with 2x Lead. |
| Pepper Star | Damage: 1 [+0.05 per Level, +1 per Upgrade] Speed: 75 [+25 per Upgrade] Windup: 0.55s [-0.11s per Upgrade] | Consume the Pepper Ball, crafted with 10x Pepper and 1x Lead Ball. |

Sword and dagger skills
There are four sword-type skills, and they work with every sword (Cutlass, Black Briar, Sturdy Stick, Gilded Sabre, Katana) as well as daggers (Clown Knives, Broken Ritual Dagger). Three drop from corrupt enemies, while Sword Leap comes from the Clown Boss.

Claw skills
The six claw skills work with Captain’s Claws and Cat Claws, and nearly all of them come from Maple Village. Most drop from the Black Noir Captain, with Claw Flail and a second source for Razor Flip coming from Scratch. Rhythm Echo is the rarest of the group at a 2% chance.

Axe skills
Axe skills require the Battle Axe, which drops from the Black Noir Pirate. Axe Spin and Cleaving Strike come from that same pirate at Maple Village, while Power Slash and Whirlwind Slash for axes drop from corrupt enemies over at Anchor Town.
| Skill | Stats | Drop source (chance) |
|---|---|---|

Boss and miniboss utility skills
The remaining skills are utility and control tools that come from bosses and minibosses across Anchor Town and Clown Town. Pocket Sand and Pickpocket share Afuaru, the Hoarder, and both sit at a higher 10% drop chance. Pickpocket and Pocket Sand are also the two skills Loki requires before he will start the Trickster fighting-style questline.

|---|---|---|
| Embarrassment | Damage: 12 [+0.6 per Level, +4 per Upgrade] Cooldown: 18s [-3.6s per Upgrade] Slams: 1 [+1 per Upgrade] | Axe-Hand Logan Boss, Anchor Town (5%) |

How to confirm a skill unlocked
A successful unlock always shows the equip prompt with the skill’s name right after the enemy dies or the quest completes. Accept it, and the skill appears on your hotbar under keys 1 through 5. If you dismissed the prompt, the skill is still saved in ability storage on the character/inventory screen, where you can equip it manually.
If a skill will not appear or work, the cause is usually one of a few things. Most drops are chance-based, so a run without the prompt simply means the skill did not roll that time. A scroll skill also needs the matching weapon type equipped to fire, so an axe art requires an axe in hand. And any skill left in storage stays inactive until you move it onto the hotbar.
Grand Blue is in Early Access, so drop rates, sources, and upgrade values can shift between patches. When a skill’s numbers or drop source look different in-game, treat the live menu as the current truth and re-check before spending time farming.
