Ocarina of Time: All 100 Gold Skulltula Locations

Every token count by dungeon and overworld region, the tools each one needs, and the six House of Skulltula rewards.

Every token count by dungeon and overworld region, the tools each one needs, and the six House of Skulltula rewards.

Gold Skulltulas are the cursed spiders scattered across Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. They sit still instead of attacking, and killing one drops a Gold Skulltula Token. Those tokens are the currency of the House of Skulltula in Kakariko Village, where a family turned into spiders by their own greed hands out a reward every time you hit a milestone.

Quick answer: There are 100 tokens — 44 inside dungeons and 56 across the overworld. Hand them in at the House of Skulltula in Kakariko Village to claim six separate rewards.

House of Skulltula rewards for every token milestone

Each milestone frees one member of the cursed family. Walk into the House of Skulltula in Kakariko Village and talk to whoever has turned human again to collect.

TokensReward
10Adult’s Wallet (200 rupees)
20Stone of Agony (N64) / Shard of Agony (3DS)
30Giant’s Wallet (500 rupees)
40Bombchu × 10
50Piece of Heart
100Huge Rupee, repeatable

The 100-token prize is the only one that keeps paying. The father of the family hands over 200 rupees, and he does it again every time you leave the house and walk back in.

The Stone or Shard of Agony at 20 tokens signals hidden grottos. When it triggers, drop a bomb or play the Song of Storms on the spot to open the hole.

Items, songs and conditions needed to collect all 100

No single loadout clears the whole list. Some tokens are child-only, some are adult-only, and a large batch only appears after dark. Keep this kit in mind before you start sweeping regions.

  • An empty bottle filled with bugs, for every soft soil patch.
  • Bombs, for cracked walls, boulders and grotto entrances.
  • Slingshot and Boomerang as a child; Hookshot and Longshot as an adult, for tokens you cannot reach.
  • Din’s Fire or Fire Arrows, for the webbed cow grotto near Gerudo Valley.
  • Megaton Hammer, for the red rocks on Death Mountain Trail.
  • Iron Boots and Zora Tunic, for the crate at the bottom of the Lakeside Laboratory pool.
  • Silver Gauntlets and the Lens of Truth, for the Zora’s Fountain grotto path.
  • Scarecrow’s Song, Song of Storms and Bolero of Fire.

Magic Beans have to be planted as a child before you can ride the sprout as an adult. The Lost Woods, Zora’s River and Desert Colossus tokens all depend on beans being in the ground ahead of time.

Night matters too. The day-night cycle does not start until you leave Kokiri Forest for the first time, so the night-only spider behind the Know-It-All Brothers’ house is unreachable before that.

Gold Skulltula counts in every dungeon

Dungeons hold 44 of the 100 tokens. Most are visible from the room you are already in, stuck to vines, gratings or a side wall, so the hard part is usually retrieving the token rather than killing the spider.

Three dungeons need a second visit. Inside the Deku Tree has a back room in Basement 1 behind a burnable web and a boulder, which means you cannot finish it until you own bombs. Dodongo’s Cavern keeps two tokens locked behind adult tools, and the Spirit Temple splits its five between the child and adult halves of the building.

The Fire Temple, Shadow Temple and Spirit Temple each place a token beyond a Scarecrow’s Song spot, so play the song for Bonooru in Lake Hylia as a child before you start those runs.

Gold Skulltula counts in every overworld area

The remaining 56 tokens are spread across 18 overworld regions. Kakariko Village is the densest single area with six, and one lone token sits in the Haunted Wasteland.

The five hiding patterns to sweep in each region

Overworld tokens repeat the same handful of tricks. Once you recognize the pattern, clearing a region becomes a checklist rather than a search.

Soft soil patches

Drop bugs from a bottle onto a mound of soft soil and a spider crawls out. These patches sit behind the Kokiri Shop, in the Kakariko Graveyard, outside Dodongo’s Cavern on Death Mountain Trail, near the Bolero of Fire warp pad in Death Mountain Crater, in front of the Lakeside Laboratory, on the lower river ledge in Gerudo Valley beside the Gerudo and the cow, near the Spirit Temple entrance at Desert Colossus, and twice in the Lost Woods.

Trees and crates

Roll attack the right tree and a spider tumbles out. The ones that matter stand at the Kakariko Village entrance, on the path to Hyrule Castle, near the Lon Lon Ranch entrance, at the mouth of Zora’s River, and in the southeast corner of Zora’s Fountain. Crates work the same way, with tokens inside the Market guardhouse box, a crate at the Death Mountain Crater entrance, a crate at the back of the bombed boulder room in Goron City, and one at the bottom of the Lakeside Laboratory pool that needs Iron Boots and the Zora Tunic.

Night-only wall spiders

A large group only exists after sunset. Kakariko Village alone has spiders on the construction site bricks, the lookout tower ladder, the side of the House of Skulltula, the house nearest the Death Mountain gate, and the roof of Impa’s house. Lon Lon Ranch, Lake Hylia, Zora’s River, Zora’s Fountain, Gerudo Valley, Gerudo Fortress, Kokiri Forest, the Kakariko Graveyard and Desert Colossus all add night-only tokens of their own.

Bombable walls, boulders and grottos

Explosives open four notable hiding spots. Bomb the wall just past the Death Mountain Trail entrance, blast the boulder chain in Goron City, bomb the lone tree left of the bridge toward Kakariko in Hyrule Field, and blow open the circle of stones near the Gerudo Valley entrance. That last grotto is webbed over, so burn the webs with Din’s Fire or a Fire Arrow before you can reach the token above the cow. A fourth grotto sits by the tree at the corner of the Hyrule Castle moat and only opens to the Song of Storms.

Beanstalks and high ledges

The last group asks for reach. Ride a grown Magic Bean sprout to the ledges in the Lost Woods, Zora’s River and Desert Colossus. Use the Longshot for the tree on the Water Temple island in Lake Hylia, the far archery target in the Gerudo Fortress range, and the roof of the House of Twins in Kokiri Forest. Two red rocks on Death Mountain Trail need the Megaton Hammer, one at the bomb flower ledge above Dodongo’s Cavern and one in the rockslide area.

Killing the spider and taking the token are two different jobs. Tokens stuck high on walls will not drop on their own, so keep the Boomerang equipped as a child and the Hookshot or Longshot as an adult.

How to check which Gold Skulltulas you still need

Your running total lives on the quest status screen in the pause menu, next to the Gold Skulltula icon. That number is the only count that matters, and it carries across both eras.

To narrow down what is left, open the map screen. Dungeon maps and the overworld map mark which areas you have already cleared of tokens, so you can jump straight to the regions that still have one hiding in them instead of re-walking everything.

Confirmation comes from the House of Skulltula itself. Each time you cross a milestone, another cursed family member turns back into a human and speaks to you, and the reward goes straight into your inventory when you talk to them. If nobody new is human, you have not crossed the next threshold yet. At 100 tokens, the father joins them and pays out a Huge Rupee every time you step outside and come back in.
