Chara is the headline weapon of the Rogue Piece update that landed on September 13, 2026, and it is gated behind one of the longest chains the game has asked for. Buying the weapon is the easy part. The two F moves attached to it each require a five-part questline, and one of them is hidden behind objectives the game never spells out in a quest log.
Quick answer: Buy Chara from the NPC on Abyss Hill Island using materials farmed in the Judgement Hall dungeon, then finish two separate five-part questlines — the first one as the Human race — to unlock both F moves.
Chara moveset and the Undying Malice passive
Out of the box, Chara comes with four active abilities plus a passive that has to be charged through boss kills. The F slot starts empty and stays that way until you complete a questline for it.
| Key | Move | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|
| Z | Determination Slash | 9s |
| X | Fight | 12s |
| C | My Turn Now (counter) | 18s |
| V | Crimson Rush | 35s |
| F | File Overwrite or Reset The Timeline | 50s |
The passive, Undying Malice, starts locked at 0/5 stacks. Every 10 boss kills grants one stack, up to a cap of five. Each stack gives 3% movement speed and 2% damage, so a full set is a modest 15% speed and 10% damage. The real payoff sits at the cap: at 5 stacks, your next attack strips 25% of the target’s current health instantly, on a 30-second cooldown.

The Chara NPC stands on Abyss Hill Island. Talking to it shows the full shopping list, and every material on it comes from the same place — the Chara boss inside Judgement Hall.
- 10x Worn Dagger
- 1x Heart Locket
- 5x Determination Vial
- 25x Bar of Chocolate
- 1.25M Rogue Fragments
You can pick the weapon up the moment all five lines turn green. If you are playing on the Rogue Piece experience page, the NPC prompt appears as a green circle indicator once you walk into range.
Judgement Hall spawn cost and Chara boss drop rates
Judgement Hall is summoned from Rogue Town, and the entry fee is steep. Each spawn costs 150 Dungeon Tickets, 5,000,000 SG, and 100,000 Fragments of Rogue. After spawning it you pick a difficulty and start the wave.

The Chara boss at the end drops everything you need, but the rates split hard between the common and rare lines. The table below lists the base chance next to a boosted figure seen with luck stacked on.
| Drop | Base rate | Boosted rate |
|---|---|---|
| Bar of Chocolate | 15% | 100% |
| Worn Dagger | 5% | 36.25% |
| Heart Locket | 1% | 7.25% |
| Determination Vial | 1% | 7.25% |
| Chara’s Locket (accessory) | 1% | 7.25% |
| The True Reset (title) | 1% | 7.25% |
The 1% lines are what stretch this out. You need a Heart Locket to buy the weapon and five Determination Vials on top, and a later quest asks for ten more Heart Lockets. Running with luck boosts active is the difference between a handful of runs and dozens.
Dungeon Tickets are the real bottleneck at 150 per spawn. Redeemable codes have handed out large ticket bundles and Determination Vials, though most of them carry a level requirement of 5,000 or 10,000 before they will accept.
File Overwrite: Unlocking the standard F move
The first F move is a self-buff. File Overwrite grants +30% damage for 60 seconds on a 50-second cooldown, which effectively means near-permanent uptime once you have it.
It is handled by a second NPC, Chara (NMD), also on Abyss Hill Island. Two things must be true before the questline will open: you have to be the Human race, and you have to consume 10 Determination Vials first. Human is worth thinking about, because the race itself carries no combat buffs at all — you are trading your race bonus for access to this chain.

Once the fifth turn-in registers, File Overwrite appears in the F slot and the 50-second cooldown timer becomes visible on your ability bar.
Reset The Timeline: The secret F move questline
The second F move replaces File Overwrite with a cutscene attack that deals dramatically more damage. The official hints point at the genocide ending, and warn that not every requirement shows up as a visible quest or item — some of it you have to figure out from the game world itself.
The hidden chain starts at the same Chara (NMD) NPC and runs five parts deep.
Hidden 1: Finish 20 Save Point quests
Save Points appear randomly on islands roughly every five minutes. Each one hands you a small task, drawn from a short pool: kill 500 mobs, finish 5 dungeons, kill 1 player, defeat 5 world bosses (Saber Alter or Yuzu), or open 500 chests. You need 20 completed Save Point quests in total, which makes this as much a waiting game as a combat one.
Hidden 2: Kill 1,000 bosses with Chara
Every kill has to be made with the Chara weapon equipped. The tracker sits on screen and updates per boss, so you can confirm it is registering within your first couple of kills rather than discovering hours later that the wrong loadout was active.

Hidden 3: Collect 12 Human Souls
There are six soul types and you need two of each. They drop at a 25% rate from one specific boss apiece, so this is more about repeat kills than luck.
| Soul | Boss | Needed |
|---|---|---|
| Patience | Stark | 2 |
| Bravery | Escanor | 2 |
| Integrity | Tanjiro | 2 |
| Perseverance | Mahoraga | 2 |
| Kindness | Rimuru | 2 |
| Justice | Yhwach | 2 |
Hidden 4: Pick up The Real Knife twice
This is the part that is not really a quest. The Real Knife rolls a 15% spawn chance every five minutes across three locations — Glacier Island, Throne Island, and Weco Mundo. When it does appear, a server-wide message fires reading “9999999… The Real Knife has spawned!” and everyone in the server sees it. You need to physically reach and grab it twice, which means camping the spawn points and moving fast.
Hidden 5: Deliver 12 Human Souls to Chara (NMD)
The final step is the turn-in. Hand all 12 souls — two of each type — back to the Chara (NMD) NPC. The tracker counts up from 0/12 as you deliver.

On completion, the F slot swaps from File Overwrite to Reset The Timeline, still on a 50-second cooldown. The move plays a full cutscene when triggered, which is the clearest confirmation the unlock went through.
Where Chara lands in the damage meta
Chara currently sits in the top tier for both raw burst damage and sustained DPS, alongside names like Ulquiorra, Beerus, Broly, Rimuru, Goku, and the Blackened Excalibur. That places it above everything in the Yhwach and Thragg bracket, and well clear of the older Shadow and Kaneki tier.
Race choice matters once you are done. Reset The Timeline hits noticeably harder on Vasto Car than it does on Human, and Human is only required for the File Overwrite chain — the hidden questline never asks for it. If you switch races after finishing the first questline, you keep the unlock while getting a race that actually contributes damage.
The honest summary is that the weapon itself is a short grind and the F moves are a very long one. Buying Chara takes a manageable number of Judgement Hall runs. Getting to Reset The Timeline means 1,000 boss kills, 20 randomly-timed Save Point quests, and two lucky 15% spawns of an item the whole server is racing you for. If you want a top-tier weapon quickly, buy it and stop at File Overwrite. The secret move is for players who were going to grind anyway.
