Can’t Outrun the Past is the second Nightmare Trial in Marvel’s Wolverine, and it swaps claws for footwork. Stepping through the wooden door frame drops Logan into his yellow and brown suit on a timed obstacle course built from shipping containers, swing bars and climbing walls. There is nothing to fight here — the only opponent is the clock.
Quick answer: Reach the purple exit portal in under 0:57 to earn the Adamantium medal. The run is pure platforming, so keep moving and chain jumps into swings without pausing to line anything up.
Can’t Outrun the Past medal times
The trial grades a single stat, elapsed time, and the thresholds are shown on the results screen after every attempt. The target for the top tier is tight but forgiving enough that one clean lap gets there.
| Medal | Time required |
|---|---|
| Adamantium | Under 0:57 |
| Gold | Under 1:00 |
| Silver | Under 1:10 |
| Bronze | 1:10 or slower |
Only three seconds separate Adamantium from Gold, so a single missed swing or a re-attempted climb is usually the difference. A finish of 00:56.91 clears the bar with well under a second to spare.
Platinum only requires the Adamantium rank in one trial across the whole game. This early platforming run is a reasonable place to bank it, since the other trials only need Bronze to count as completed.

The door sits in Mission 5, The One That Got Away, during the objective to track the red-haired mutant. After clearing a few more groups of reavers you arrive at a small river, and the door frame is standing on its own at the water’s edge. Like every Nightmare Door, it is flagged by thick purple roots running along the ground.
It is unmissable and sits directly on the story path, so you cannot walk past it by accident. Interacting with the frame pulls Logan through a short dark hallway and into the trial space.

Finding this second door is what unlocks Chapter Select, which you reach from the title screen by choosing Nightmare Cabin and interacting with the bed.
Route through the container course
The objective reads “Reach the exit” and the timer starts after a three-second countdown. Red lanterns mark the intended platforms and pathways, so if you are unsure which container comes next, follow the lights rather than the geometry.

How to confirm the Adamantium medal registered
The results screen appears the moment you enter the portal. It lists your Time and Best Time, and highlights the medal you earned from the four-tier list. A sub-0:57 finish lights up ADAMANTIUM at the top of that list.
The other confirmation is the Ability Point counter on the same screen. Clearing the trial at the top rank ticks it up by one — from 13 / 18 AP to 14 / 18 AP in a typical run — before you choose RETRY or CONTINUE. Higher medals also feed more Adaptation XP toward your Adaptation Level.
Replaying the trial from the Nightmare Cabin
Nothing about the trial is missable. If your first attempt lands on Gold or lower, you can hit RETRY on the spot, or come back later and run it again from the Nightmare Cabin after the story. Returning with more skills unlocked makes the course easier to hold together at speed.
Progress is tracked in two places. The collectible tracker in the pause menu shows how many doors you have found in the current chapter, and the same tracker appears in Chapter Select inside the cabin. Discovering all 14 doors is what unlocks the Pathways of the Mind trophy, while clearing all 15 trials at Bronze or better opens the hidden memory tied to Repressed Memories.
