The Split 2 balance pass in Apex Legends Season 30 does not add a new character, but it reshuffles which Legends carry the most weight in ranked. Several Controller and utility picks got direct buffs, and two Skirmishers remain dominant regardless of the changes. If you are climbing during the second split, these are the Legends that give you the clearest advantage.
Quick answer: The five strongest picks after the update are Catalyst, Fuse, Conduit, Pathfinder, and Axle, spanning the Controller, Assault, Support, and Skirmisher roles.

Best Legends in Season 30 Split 2
| Legend | Role | What changed in Split 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Catalyst | Controller | Tactical rebuilds doors, lower cooldown; Ultimate no longer blocks ally vision |
| Fuse | Assault | Cluster jump now base kit; new tactical perks; faster Ultimate detonation |
| Conduit | Support | Ultimate jammers spawn higher and can stack vertically |
| Pathfinder | Skirmisher | Untouched; double tactical charges and double-ult upgrade |
| Axle | Skirmisher | Nerfed but still the top Skirmisher; long slide plus Nitro Gates |

Add to Google Preferences →Catalyst: door control and cleaner ultimate walls
Catalyst is now one of the stronger Controllers in the game. Her spikes can rebuild and reinforce a broken door when placed on a doorway, so a destroyed entry point becomes a barrier again. With the lower base cooldown, you can drop the spikes on key chokes and reset them often enough to hold ground during a fight.
Her ultimate wall also stopped hiding teammates’ vision when they walk through it. Your whole squad can move around and shoot near the wall without giving up sightlines, which makes it far easier to use it as a shield rather than a one-way blind.

Fuse: mobile clusters and a faster ultimate
Fuse picked up a real quality-of-life boost. The Level 2 EVO perk that let him jump with his Knuckle Clusters is now part of his base kit, so he can launch himself into position from the start of a match. The new EVO perks build on his Tactical, with one widening its radius and another letting the clusters stick to enemies.
His ultimate is the bigger threat. The Motherlode now detonates much faster, leaving almost no window to escape the ring of fire. Landed on a pinned squad, it can turn straight into a knock or a kill.
Conduit: a stronger area-denial ultimate
Conduit’s Tactical is largely the same, but her ultimate improved in ways that matter. The jammers now spawn higher, so the field covers more space. Pair that with the Concurrency EVO perk and you can wall off two directions a squad might push at once.
The ultimate can also be rotated vertically, similar to Catalyst’s wall, letting you stack the jammers in a single spot. Enemies then have to run straight through the damage or destroy every jammer, and that delay is often enough time to revive a downed teammate safely.

Pathfinder: unchanged but still a top pick
Pathfinder received no changes in Split 2, yet he remains one of the safest high-value picks on the roster. His two grapple charges let him close the gap on an enemy squad instantly or break off a bad fight before it goes wrong. The flat 20-second cooldown keeps that mobility available far more often than most rotation tools.
His Level 2 EVO perks let him scan either the ring or a survey beacon, and the Level 3 perk Feeling Zippy grants double ultimate charge for faster zip line rotations across the map. He sits near the top of Predator pick rates behind only Loba and Axle, and he leads the boards at Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. If Axle’s slide-heavy style does not suit you, Pathfinder is the reliable alternative.
Axle: still the strongest Skirmisher after the nerfs
Axle has absorbed multiple nerf waves and still holds up as the best Skirmisher in the game. Her long slide duration lets her move and shoot at the same time, and because her shots stay accurate while sliding, she can trade damage while being a difficult target to track. Combined with her Nitro Gates, she is hard to pin down.
Her ultimate, Kickstart, works as a strong distraction when you push a squad and deals real damage as it chases enemies down, which helps isolate a fight. If a push falls apart, a Nitro Gate gives you an immediate way to reposition. She continues to post one of the highest pick rates among top-ranked players even after her slide boost and Kickstart were tuned down.

The theme of Split 2 is control and consistency. Catalyst, Fuse, and Conduit gained tools that lock down space and punish careless pushes, while Pathfinder and Axle keep rewarding fast rotations and aggressive positioning. Leaning into any of these five gives you a squad that can hold ground and dictate the pace of a fight during the second split.
