FC 27 Streamlined SBCs: How the Item Score System Works

The new score-based format drops chemistry and position rules, lets you submit duplicates, and saves partial progress toward a target.

Squad Building Challenges in FC 27 no longer force you to assemble a full XI with the right chemistry, positions, and squad rating. Most Player and Upgrade SBCs now run on a score-based format called Streamlined SBCs, where every card you own carries a point value and you feed cards in until you hit a target.

Quick answer: Each Streamlined SBC sets a target score. Every submitted item adds points based on its OVR and rarity, with no chemistry, position, or quantity limits on most challenges — reach the number and you claim the reward.

How the score-based system works

Instead of building a squad around a rating requirement, you open the SBC and see every eligible item in your Club. You pick which ones to submit, and each card’s Item Score is added to a running total until you reach the required amount. EA laid out the system in the FUT Deep Dive Pitch Notes, which confirm the same Item Score is shared with the new FUT Gallery.

Because there are no position rules on most Streamlined SBCs, you can submit five goalkeepers and it still counts. That flexibility means the same target can be met different ways. If an SBC needs 5,000 points, you could reach it with fifty 76-rated cards or with a single 87-rated card. The choice is yours, which makes clearing out duplicate fodder far less painful.

Item Score by rating and rarity

Bronze and Silver items carry a flat value regardless of their exact rating. Every Bronze card rated 45 to 64 is worth 20 points, and every Silver card rated 65 to 74 is worth 35 points. Gold items scale by OVR, and the jump becomes steep once you pass 84.

Silver65–7435
Bronze45–6420

The value drops off sharply below 85, so bigger rewards still demand bigger sacrifices. Bronze and Silver piles remain useful for smaller targets, but a high-rated Gold card clears a large chunk in one go.

These scores apply to launch and are not fixed for the year. EA has said it will watch completion data and adjust the values based on feedback, so treat the numbers above as the starting point rather than a permanent scale.

Special cards and Holographic items add more

The table lists base items only. Special editions have greater value than their regular counterparts. A player item from Team of the Week, or one from Road to the Knockouts, scores more than a standard card with the same rating. Since these items enter the game gradually throughout the season, their precise values have not been determined yet.

Holographic status also raises a card’s contribution. A Holographic item shares the same attributes as its normal version but hands over more points toward a Streamlined SBC, on top of counting toward your Gallery score. The bonuses stack, so a card that is both a Team of the Week item and Holographic beats the raw version, the plain TOTW version, and the plain Holographic version.

Submitting duplicates and saving partial progress

Two quality-of-life changes make fodder management much easier:

  • Duplicates count. You can submit multiple copies of the same player, so packed duplicates go straight toward a target instead of clogging your Club.
  • Partial progress saves. You do not have to finish in one sitting. Feed in what you have, keep the score banked, and return later with more cards.

Say a Streamlined SBC needs 10,000 points and you only want to use Silver and Bronze cards. If you do not have enough right now, submit as many as you can, then come back after opening more packs to top up the total.

If a time-limited Streamlined SBC expires before you finish and you have already submitted cards, you receive some packs in return so you don’t lose everything. Even so, only commit fodder you can afford to lose if you’re unsure you’ll complete it.

When minimum ratings still apply

Removing chemistry and positional requirements still leaves room for additional rules on some Streamlined SBCs. These can demand Gold items, a specific number of players from one league, or a minimum OVR for every submitted card. For example, EA’s Player of the Month SBC requires a total Item Score and sets 75 as the minimum rating for each item.

Some challenges have no rating floor, leaving the score as the only target. The updated menu lists cards that qualify, so you can avoid manually sorting through your Club. A minimum OVR reduces the number of inexpensive solutions, and the best-value route varies with the required target and current Transfer Market prices.

Which SBCs keep the traditional format

Classic squad building is still part of the game. EA expects most Player and Upgrade SBCs to use Streamlined rules, whereas the more intricate Challenge SBCs will retain chemistry, positions, and squad rating thresholds. Elite SBCs, including those awarding a special player version, will likewise continue using the traditional format.

EA has said that player feedback during FC 27 can lead to changes in how often each format appears, meaning their balance may move throughout the year.

When Streamlined SBCs go live

Console and PC players get the Streamlined SBC system on September 25, 2026, followed by the feature’s addition to the mobile Companion App in Season 1. At launch, an objective group titled Intro to Streamlined SBCs explains how the mechanics work. The first Streamlined SBC requires 20,000 points and awards Ayyoub Bouaddi’s 83-rated Ones to Watch version.

You’ll know a submission worked when your progress bar climbs toward the target, and completion unlocks the reward once the required score is met. With duplicates accepted and progress banked between sessions, the Bronze Pack Method stays relevant too, since low-rated base cards remain steady fodder for smaller targets while the old-format SBCs keep their own demand alive.
