A brief early mission in Shadowglen Forest, The Wounds of Betrayal puts you in a cave with wounded Nightclaw Druids. It has two objectives in one cave and takes roughly two minutes of running when you know the entrance location. The main obstacle is a healing counter that may refuse to reach 7/7.
Quick answer: Accept it at Elegant Thornpaw, located in Shadowglen Forest, then travel southeast to Nightclaw Cavern. Heal 7 injured druids there, speak with Joel Windsinger, and return to Thornpaw to complete the quest.
The Wounds of Betrayal quest details and rewards
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Quest giver | Elegant Thornpaw, Shadowglen Forest |
| Objective 1 | Injured Druids healed: 0/7 |
| Objective 2 | Find Joel Windsinger: 0/1 |
| Location | Nightclaw Cavern (Sanctuary) |
| Turn-in | Elegant Thornpaw |
| Reward | 900 XP, 500 Nightclaw Druids reputation |
| Follow-up | The Fate of the Eldr |
Both objectives sit inside the same cave and can be finished in either order, so there is no reason to walk out halfway through. The druids are scattered across tunnels and ledges rather than bunched in a single room.

Elegant Thornpaw stands in Shadowglen Forest, one of the labeled points on the Zandalar world map alongside Shen’dar Village, Falaath Village, the Shrine of Akir, and the Ruins of Bana’ethal. She carries the exclamation point for the pickup and handles the turn-in later, so you are running a loop rather than a one-way trip.

Leave her location and travel southeast through the trees. The minimap marker leads directly to the cave opening, and the distance is short enough to walk at low level without a mount.
How to complete The Wounds of Betrayal

Nightclaw Cavern counts as a Sanctuary zone, which prevents other players from attacking you inside.

Injured druid checklist for Nightclaw Cavern
Names and spawn spots shift slightly between runs, so treat the list below as a rough tally rather than a fixed route. Some of the wounded appear in owlbeast form, which is why it pays to check anything carrying a Nightclaw Druid title instead of only looking for bodies on the ground.
- Injured Mossmender
- Brycen Galechaser
- Mirthless Sterngale
- Nalor Leafwhisper
- Naeleos Leafwhisper
- Tessnos Leafwhisper
Other wounded druids turn up along the same route depending on the run, including Nayeela Snarlfang, Beyaa Gustbellow, and Baeo Sharpstrike. Any of them counts toward the seven.

Grab the optional On the Windfoot chest on the way in
A small chest on the cave floor begins the separate On the Windfoot quest. Because it has no floating NPC marker and the healing objective gives no direction to it, you can easily pass it by.
Using the chest has no effect on the druid total. Take the quest as you enter, avoiding a second trip through the tunnels solely to reach the chest.
How to confirm the quest completed
- The tracker reads Injured Druids healed: 7/7 and Find Joel Windsinger: 1/1.
- Elegant Thornpaw switches from an exclamation point to a question mark.
- The turn-in displays XP: 900 in the combat log and grants 500 reputation with the Nightclaw Druids.
- Thornpaw offers The Fate of the Eldr as the next quest.
If the healing counter is stuck below 7/7
Usually, a druid you missed is hidden in one of the branches. Since parts of Nightclaw Cavern reconnect, checking the upper ledges again will generally find the remaining druids before you leave for Shadowglen Forest.
The other cause is an interrupted heal. Left-clicking away or canceling the interaction mid-cast can leave the NPC looking healed while giving you no quest credit, and further attempts return an out-of-range error even when you are standing on top of them.
Let each heal finish before you move or click elsewhere. Once a druid locks up in that state, the practical fix is to abandon The Wounds of Betrayal from your Quest Log and pick it back up from the quest giver.
Since the whole run takes a couple of minutes, restarting costs far less time than hunting a druid that will never tick the counter. Walk the tunnels once at a steady pace, let every interaction resolve, and the quest closes out on the first attempt.
