What the quest item does, where Flutterflies appear in Gustberry Lowlands, and how to finish the five-dust objective.

The Flutterfly Swatter is a low-level quest item in World of Warcraft: Forever, and it exists for exactly one reason: whacking Flutterflies. It carries a single use effect, Smack Flutterfly, and it is tied to the Flutterfly Dust errand that sends new characters out of Windfield Orchard and into the fields of Gustberry Lowlands.

Quick answer: Use Smack Flutterfly on Flutterflies in Gustberry Lowlands, once every 10 seconds, until you have looted five Flutterfly Dust, then return to Aamelia Windfield at Windfield Orchard.

Because the Swatter is not consumed, you can keep triggering it for as long as the quest is in your log. The tooltip flips to “Recently smacked!” while the 10-second cooldown is ticking, so if nothing happens when you press it, the timer has not reset yet. Timewalking scaling does not apply to it.

Where Flutterflies appear in Gustberry Lowlands

Flutterflies live in Gustberry Lowlands, one zone over from the orchard. Open your zone map after picking up the quest and the objective area shows up as a highlighted blue patch; the path out of Windfield Orchard runs straight down into it.

Once you are inside the blue area, look for these markers:

  • Small purple Flutterflies hovering around the trees
  • Open grassy fields between the tree clusters
  • The hill slope at the edge of the lowlands, which usually has stragglers
  • Ornery Galebenders patrolling the same ground

The Ornery Galebenders in this area are hostile humanoids and will pull you into a real fight while you are chasing Flutterflies. Route around them when you can, or clear the one standing between you and a target before you start swinging.

How to collect 5 Flutterfly Dust

Head to Windfield Orchard and speak with Aamelia Windfield. Accept the quest Flutterfly Dust, which asks for five Flutterfly Dust.

Follow the path down into Gustberry Lowlands and stop once you are inside the marked objective area. Flutterflies are visible from a distance as purple specks drifting near the treeline.
Target a Flutterfly and kill it, then loot the corpse. The dust is a drop, not a guaranteed one, so some kills will leave behind only ordinary loot and no quest progress.

Keep moving between the tree clusters, the open fields, and the hill slope, picking off Flutterflies as they respawn. Check the map occasionally so you stay inside the objective area while you work the counter up.

Turn in Flutterfly Dust and confirm the quest is complete

When the fifth piece drops, an on-screen notification reads Objective Complete: Flutterfly Dust 5/5. That message is your confirmation that the collection part is finished, and the quest marker will point you back toward the orchard.

Run back north to Windfield Orchard and talk to Aamelia Windfield again. Her dialogue window opens with the completed quest, and you pick your reward from the options she offers before the quest clears from your log.

With the quest handed in, the Flutterfly Swatter has done its job. It is a starter-zone tool rather than a piece of gear you hold onto, and Smack Flutterfly has no use outside the Flutterflies in Gustberry Lowlands.
