Fine Thread is the fabric backbone of steel-tier and Necromancer gear in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, and it all starts with Corpse Cotton. That material only appears once you reach Fellhollow, the region opened after you defeat the game’s first dragon boss. Corpse Cotton comes from volatile plants that burst when struck, so the real task is gathering enough of it without taking heavy damage.

Quick answer: Spin 4 Corpse Cotton at a Spinning Wheel to make 1 Fine Thread. Gather Corpse Cotton by hitting the exploding plants that grow across Fellhollow; crafting requires Artisan level 20.

Requirements before you can make Fine Thread

Two conditions gate this material. You need access to Fellhollow, and you need enough Artisan skill to spin the cotton into thread.

  • Beat the first dragon boss, then step through the Spectral Door from the Forgotten Temple to enter Fellhollow.
  • Reach Artisan level 20, the requirement for the Fine Thread recipe at a Spinning Wheel.
  • Have a Spinning Wheel available at your base or camp.

The recipe unlocks the moment you collect your first piece of Corpse Cotton, so simply picking up the drop is enough to reveal it.

Where to find Corpse Cotton in Fellhollow

Corpse cotton plants grow all over Fellhollow. They look like bulbous, flesh-like pods stuck to rocks, walls, and ground patches. Every plant you burst drops 5–7 Corpse Cotton and sometimes a single Corpse Cotton Seed, and each one respawns after about three in-game days.

Lake of Lost Souls (central Fellhollow)The densest, safest patch; plants line the water edges and slopes.

The graveyard at the Fellhollow entrance is the first spot you can reach. As you exit the Spectral Door you land among the graves, and the base of the surrounding cliffs holds several plants to burst.

The Lake of Lost Souls in the middle of the region is the most efficient route. Plants sit close together around the shoreline and nearby slopes, so a single loop of the lake yields enough cotton for several Fine Thread crafts. Placing a lodestone next to it makes returning for respawns fast.

The Hope’s Fall cluster works as an occasional stop, but the zombies around the Anima vent can overwhelm you if you are not well geared. Treat it as a supplementary spot rather than a main route.

How to harvest the plants without taking damage

A single strike detonates the plant; anyone inside its 4-metre blast radius receives a 65% Wither. Nearby plants can trigger one another and build stacks rapidly, making spacing important.

Trigger each plant with a ranged ability or spell from outside the blast radius, then walk in to collect the cotton once the smoke clears. Bring healing for tighter clusters where explosions overlap.

Defeating Zogres near Hope’s Fall, Silverthorn Keep, or the Vekchenven Kara Vault yields 4–8 Corpse Cotton from each one. They are slower and less common than the plants, so treat Zogre kills as extra supply rather than your main source.

Grow your own Corpse Cotton from seeds

Bursting a plant sometimes drops a single Corpse Cotton Seed. These are rare, so pick up every one. Plant them in a Willow Farming Plot to grow Corpse Cotton at your base, which removes the need to run through dangerous zones for a steady supply.

Home-grown plants yield less per harvest than wild ones, but they can still drop the occasional seed to keep your farm expanding. Applying Compost to a plot raises the amount of Corpse Cotton each cultivated plant produces.

Craft Fine Thread at the Spinning Wheel

Return to a base or camp with a Spinning Wheel and open its crafting menu. Make sure you are carrying at least four Corpse Cotton.
Select Fine Thread and place your Corpse Cotton into the input slot. Every 4 Corpse Cotton produces 1 Fine Thread, so plan your stock around the gear you want to build.

Confirm the craft. Each successful spin grants Artisan experience, and the finished Fine Thread appears in your inventory ready for use. Because it stacks to 99 and weighs only 0.3, you can batch-craft a large supply in one visit.

What Fine Thread is used for

Fine Thread acts as a bowstring and as stitching for weapons and gear, and it also feeds one of the most-used mid-game materials. Weaving 3 Fine Thread with 1 Gold Bar at a Loom (Artisan level 40) produces Fine Cloth, the fabric behind power level 5 armour.

Beyond that, Fine Thread is a direct component in a wide spread of steel and Necromancer equipment. The table below shows a few examples of how much each craft consumes.

Because entire armour sets and weapon lines draw on Fine Thread, it is worth stockpiling Corpse Cotton well before you commit to steel or Necromancer builds. Once you have a lodestone at the Lake of Lost Souls and a Corpse Cotton farm running at home, keeping your Spinning Wheel supplied becomes a quick routine rather than a grind.
