Fisch pushed its Mariana’s Awakening update, also called The Obsidian Trench, on September 19, 2026. It bolts a brand-new layer onto the bottom of Mariana’s Veil, complete with a fresh questline, an environmental debuff, a two-stage boss loop, a new rod, and 22 new fish. The catch is that you cannot just swim down to it. There is a gated progression path you have to clear first.
Quick answer: Talk to Vaelor in Roslit Bay, finish all five descendant quests, decipher the Crevice Wall riddle, then ignite every layer gem to open the Abyss Gate into the Obsidian Trench.

Redeem the MarianaIsGoingCrazy code
The update ships with one active code, MarianaIsGoingCrazy. Enter it in the game’s code box to claim the reward tied to this drop. Fisch codes expire, so redeem it before you dig into the questline rather than after.
You know it worked when the reward is applied and the code no longer accepts a second redemption. Case does not matter, since Fisch codes are case-insensitive.

The whole route starts on land and sends you bouncing across every existing layer of Mariana’s Veil before the new one opens. Follow the sequence in order.

| Descendant | Layer |
|---|---|
| Ignis | Volcanic Vents |
| Glacius | Challenger’s Deep |
| Tenebris | Abyssal Zenith |
| Luminis | Calm Zone |
| Resonus | Veil of the Forsaken |
If the trench still will not open, the block is somewhere on this path, not inside the new layer. Recheck the descendant quests and confirm every gem is lit before looking for anything else.

Trench Suppression and the white crystals
The moment you enter the Obsidian Trench, an environmental debuff called Trench Suppression starts building. It limits how long you can comfortably stay down there, so reaching the layer does not mean you can fish it indefinitely.
Glowing white crystals can be found throughout the trench. Touching one clears your suppression levels for a short time. Because that effect fades, locate a crystal nearby before starting a lengthy fishing attempt, then head back when the debuff builds up again.

Veiled Charybdis and awakening Skolopendra
The trench’s signature encounter chains two stages together. You catch Veiled Charybdis first, and those catches wake up the boss.
The Veiled Charybdis reeling minigame
Catching Charybdis in the trench rivers switches you to a special reeling minigame rather than a standard catch. Maintain control while preventing it from pulling you into the deadly water. Whirlpools pose the biggest threat: entering one removes your rod control and makes completing the catch far more difficult.
Turning the crystals red
Land roughly four to six Veiled Charybdis and every crystal in the trench turns deep red. That color change is your signal that Skolopendra has awakened. The count is a range, not a fixed number, so keep fishing until the crystals shift.
Fighting Skolopendra
Skolopendra is fought through its own boss minigame with additional mysterious effects, not through standard fishing mechanics. Clear the encounter to close out the trench’s main boss loop and open the door to its biggest reward.

How to get the Chasm-Stalker Rod
The Chasm-Stalker Rod becomes purchasable once you have conquered the Obsidian Trench and beaten Skolopendra. It carries a new mutation and several strong passives, but its standout feature is a streak system that is unique to this rod and does not appear on anything else in Fisch.
All 22 new fish in Mariana’s Awakening
The update adds 22 species, split between the trench itself and the older layers of Mariana’s Veil. That means you can start bestiary progress on the existing layers even before the trench is open.
Obsidian Trench bestiary (12 species)
Ten catches are known and two remain hidden.
- Obsidian Gaveltooth
- Cinder-Crust Gar
- Scoria Scorpionfish
- Shatter-Tooth Shark
- Magma-Glass Marlin
- Tectonic Toadfish
- Ash-Cloud Angelfish
- Shatterjaw Shark
- Pumice Puffer
- Basalt Behemoth
- Two hidden catches
New species across existing layers (10 species)
- Charred Coelacanth
- Obsidian-Plated Piranha
- Glacial Gulper
- Hoarfrost Halibut
- Lumin-Lure Lanternfish
- Void-Drifter Jelly
- Geode Grouper
- Pearl-Plated Pleco
- Gargoyle Goby
- Wraith-Whisper Ray
For a full run through everything, redeem the code first, clear the Vaelor route to open the Abyss Gate, then keep a white crystal in sight while you grind Veiled Charybdis toward Skolopendra and the Chasm-Stalker Rod. The 10 non-trench species are worth mopping up back on the older layers whenever suppression makes the deep too much to handle.
