The Birthday Sprite is the Rare Sprite Epic built for Fortnite’s ninth anniversary, and it behaves like a loot reward rather than a menu unlock. It is not claimable from the lobby, it is not tied to a quest, and it does not appear in the item shop. You have to find it in a match, grab it, and get out with it.
Quick answer: The Birthday Sprite goes live Saturday, September 26. Look for it near high, mountainous ground, or pull it from chests and Cheat Codes, then extract it before the match ends.
Birthday Sprite release date in Fortnite
Epic added the Birthday Sprite’s files in update v42.20 on September 17, 2026, but locked it behind a later date. It becomes available starting Saturday, September 26, which is a weekend drop rather than the usual Thursday patch cadence. Epic has not announced a time of day.
The date is not random. Battle Royale launched on September 26, 2017, so the Sprite lands on the actual anniversary. If you loaded into a match right after v42.20 went live and could not find it, that is expected — Pond, Crash Bandicoot and Blinky were obtainable at that point, Birthday was not.

Add to Google Preferences →Where the Birthday Sprite spawns on the island
The Birthday Sprite’s listed habitat is high and mountainous areas, the same terrain band used by the Season 4 launch roster. That means ridgelines, peaks and elevated rock formations rather than low-lying towns or coastline.
Wild spawns are just one option. Chests and Cheat Codes can also produce Sprites, and neither method depends on a specific biome. For Chapter 7 Season 4 Sprites, Epic has provided no drop-rate data, leaving no dependable per-chest percentage to use.
How to get the Birthday Sprite in a match

| Cheat Code rarity | What it drops |
|---|---|
| Rare (blue) | A Sprite of any rarity |
| Epic (purple) | A Sprite of any rarity |
| Legendary (orange) | A variant Sprite, guaranteed |

If you die or the match ends before you extract, the Sprite does not count and you start the hunt over.
How to confirm the Birthday Sprite is yours
Back in the lobby, open the Sprites menu. A successfully extracted Birthday Sprite shows up in your collection there with its rarity and current level attached. If the row is still empty after a match, the extraction did not register and the Sprite was lost.
What the Birthday Sprite does when equipped
Epic’s description is short. Chests have a chance to serve up slices of cake when opened, and at max Sprite level, eliminations can do it too. The cake restores both health and shield.
- Opening a chest can spawn a piece of cake.
- The spawn chance rises with every Level Up.
- At max level, eliminations can also spawn cake.
- Its classification is Rare, matching Bush, Jonesy, and Onigiri.
No odds for its appearance at any level or precise healing value for a slice have been provided by Epic. In practice, heavy looting benefits players seeking the Sprite, and leveling it adds rewards for winning fights.

Birthday Sprite variants and what each one changes
Five forms of the Birthday Sprite exist in the game files. Epic has said the Bounty Hunter line joins on Thursday, September 24, but has not confirmed which Birthday forms will be obtainable on September 26 itself.
| Variant | Bonus |
|---|---|
| Birthday | Standard Sprite ability |
| Gold Birthday | 3× bonus Sprite XP from eliminations |
| Cheat Master Birthday | All Cheat Code inputs count as correct |
| Loot Hacker Birthday | Better odds of items spawning from Loot Hacks |
| Bounty Hunter Birthday | Chance to find Sprites on elims; levels only from elims |
Gold Birthday is the natural one to level first, since its elimination XP bonus feeds directly into reaching the max level where elims start spawning cake.
There is no admin panel code for the Birthday Sprite
This is the most common mix-up right now. No Lobby Hack admin panel code grants the Birthday Sprite — it has to be found in a match. The code being circulated during the anniversary unlocks the 9th Birthday Sprite Spray, which is a separate cosmetic reward, not the Sprite itself.
How the Birthday Sprite fits the 9th Birthday event
Fortnite’s 9th Birthday event kicked off on September 21 and runs until around October 1. Three of its free rewards come from Birthday Quests — the Choco-9 Cake Back Bling at three quests, the Cake Crusher Pickaxe at six, and the FNCS Back Bling at nine.

The Birthday Sprite matters for the fifth reward. The 9th Birthday Skin is handed out for mastering 28 Sprites collected during Chapter 7 Season 4, so every extraction — Birthday included — counts toward it. Expect the usual anniversary dressing alongside it too, including a redesigned Battle Bus, throwable birthday gifts and extra XP.
