1990s Dress To Impress: 2 Grunge-Era Outfit Ideas (Baggy Pants and Yellow Plaid Mini)

Two Freeplay-tested looks for the 1990s theme, with every piece's location, preview label, and colour setting.

Two Freeplay-tested looks for the 1990s theme, with every piece’s location, preview label, and colour setting.

1990s (searched most as “1990s dti”) is one of the round themes in Dress To Impress on Roblox. The game gives only the name, so we read it as nineties fashion: baggy pants with a crop top, chunky platform shoes, a plaid mini skirt under an oversized jacket, logo tops and flipped hair with curtain bangs. We built two looks in Freeplay Mode and took our own pictures of each step. Every piece and color here is free, so both work without VIP. For the other themes, see every Dress To Impress theme we have built.

Quick answer: For 1990s, wear the baggy grey drawstring pants from the trousers wall with a black crop top, the black chunky platforms from the shoe shelf and flipped curtain-bang hair. For grunge, add a yellow plaid mini and the GRUNGE jacket.

1990s outfit ideas in Dress To Impress

Dress To Impress shows no item names, so every piece here is described by where it sits, what it looks like and its color: the HEX code the color panel shows, or the spot we used on the Default palette (columns from the left, rows from the top). Set a piece’s colors while it is still a preview, then press “Put On”. Both looks share the platform shoes and the haircut.

Look 1: Baggy grey drawstring pants, black crop top and chunky platforms

Our idea: the relaxed nineties look of loose sweatpants, a tiny crop top and chunky platform shoes.

Open the Wearing panel and click the heart X under every piece. That leaves the base body, which wears a black crop top and black shorts. We kept a curly bun at this point, but the hair gets changed in step 6.

Go to the trousers wall in the Freeplay spawn hall (the hall you join in). The top shelf holds jeans and pants; the pale pair at the far right end of the top shelf is the one for this look.

Click it; the panel opens at “1/1: Preview” with HEX #ffffff. Keep that default and press “Put On”. On you they are very baggy, wide-leg heathered light grey pants with a drawstring waist, and they cover the base shorts.

Go to the shoe shelf in the Dressing Room, next to a stand with a white fur jacket. It has sneakers on the top shelf, heels on the middle shelf and boots on the bottom shelf.

Go to the hair chairs in Lana’s Salon, sit down, and open Hairstyles. Click the Updo tab and pick the right card in row 1, the brown wavy cut.

Leave the base body’s black top showing as the crop top. We tried a white top from the tops wall, but it turned out to be a pair of fur-cuff sleeves only, so we took it off again in the Wearing panel.

Look 2: Grey K-logo tube top, yellow plaid mini and the GRUNGE jacket

Our idea: a grunge-era version with a logo top, a bright plaid mini skirt and an oversized printed jacket. It keeps the platforms and the haircut from Look 1.

Open the Wearing panel and click the heart X under the pants. Keep the shoes and the hair.
Go to the tops wall in the Dressing Room. On the top shelf of the middle unit, on the right, is a grey tube top with a round “K” badge on the front. Click it; the panel opens at “1/2: Preview” with HEX #787e81. Keep the default and press “Put On”. On the runway it reads light grey with the white badge.

Where to find shoes in Dress To Impress

Shoes are on their own shelf in the Dressing Room, next to the stand with the white fur jacket. The top shelf has sneakers (a white and pink pair and a black and cream pair among them), the middle shelf has heels and the black chunky platforms used here, and the bottom shelf has boots, including black knee boots and lace-up platform boots. Click a pair to preview it. Our clicks on the top shelf did not always open the panel, so stand close and click the shoe itself.

Why these looks read as 1990s

Nineties fashion is about relaxed, oversized shapes and a bit of attitude: baggy pants with a cropped top, chunky platforms, plaid skirts, logo tops, big jackets and flipped hair with curtain bangs. Look 1 is the laid-back casual side; Look 2 is the grunge side, with plaid and a printed jacket. That is plain styling advice; we have not seen how either look scores in a real round.

How to recolor a piece

  1. Click the piece so it shows on you as a preview, and pick the part with the arrows beside the part name (“1/3: Preview” and so on).
  2. Click a heart on the Palette for that part. The color panel also shows the part’s HEX code.
  3. Press “Put On”. Colors set while previewing stay on the piece you wear.
  4. To change a piece you already wear, such as the hair in Look 2, click its picture in the Wearing panel and set the part again. To take a piece off, click the heart X under its picture.

1990s colors on the Default palette

Rows count from the top of the palette, columns from the left. These are the spots we used; the pants, the tube top, the shoes and the Look 1 hair keep their default colors.

Poses for 1990s

Any free pose from the Poses menu works; we used Dazzle for the baggy pants look and Pearly for the grunge one. For the full list with a picture of each, see every free pose in Dress To Impress.

Building it in Freeplay Mode first

Freeplay Mode has no timer, so it is the place to find the pieces and set the colors without a round running out. That matters here: the pants are on the trousers wall in the spawn hall, the shoes are on the shoe shelf, the tube top is on the tops wall, the skirt is on the Halloween display, the jacket is on the jackets wall and the hair is in Lana’s Salon. Once a look works, you know where to go when 1990s comes up in a real round. How a theme round works

We have not had 1990s as a round yet; this is from ordinary server rounds on other themes. On the main lobby, the theme shows in a banner at the top with a timer under it. After dressing, each player walks the runway in turn, about 7 seconds each, while the others vote with five stars along the bottom of the screen, with a “Voting complete!” banner between players. A “Results” card then ranks the players, followed by an “Intermission” countdown.

The “Pick Theme” button next to the intermission timer lets you choose the theme, but only with Theme Props. The panel reads “You have: 0 Theme Props” and offers a “Buy More” button priced at 75 Robux. We bought none and saw no free ones, so without Robux you wait for 1990s to roll.

What we have not checked

No round we joined rolled 1990s, so these looks have not walked a real round: there is no score, star count or vote for them. Our character has no face makeup in these pictures; we did not reach the vanity for this theme. We did not try a slip dress, a cardigan, hair clips, a scrunchie or sneakers on the character. We did not open the shoes’, the tube top’s, the jacket’s or the hair’s second part, or the skirt’s second and third parts. Both looks were built with 0 stars, and nothing was bought.

FAQ

What should I wear for 1990s in Dress To Impress?

Go for nineties shapes: baggy grey drawstring pants with a black crop top and black chunky platforms, or a grunge look with a yellow plaid mini, a logo tube top and an oversized lettered jacket. Flipped hair with curtain bangs suits both.

Can I do 1990s without VIP?

Yes. Both looks were built on an account with no VIP and 0 stars, and every piece and color worked on it, with no lock or price on any of them.

Where are the platform shoes in Dress To Impress?

On the middle shelf of the shoe shelf in the Dressing Room, next to the stand with the white fur jacket. The black chunky pair opens at “1/2: Preview” with HEX #242424.

Can the plaid skirt be yellow?

Yes. Click the chained plaid mini on the Halloween display, and while it is a preview set part 1 to bright yellow on the Palette (column 8, row 4), then press “Put On”.

Why does a black top show in Look 1?

That is the base body’s black top, left on as the crop top. The baggy pants cover the base shorts.

Is there a 90s haircut in Dress To Impress?

The right card in row 1 of the Updo tab in Lana’s Salon gives shoulder-length flipped waves with curtain bangs. It is brown by default, and we recolored it sandy blonde for Look 2.
