Wayfarer III is the promotion that pulls your Pathfinder past the level 50 wall. If your EXP bar has stopped moving at Grade II Wayfarer, no amount of farming will fix it: the cap is a title gate, and the only way through is the Elite Training program, two duels at Zephyrus Landbridge, and a short written test with Dr. Lewis at the Outpost.

Quick answer: Clear four Elite Training objectives under Proof of Trials: Dance of Flowers and Thorns, answer Dr. Lewis’s call, defeat Wendell and the Mysterious Figure at Zephyrus Landbridge, then answer all three assessment questions correctly.

What Wayfarer III unlocks

The promotion raises your level cap from 50 to 55 and hands out Report Cards, the currency you spend in your own talent tree on active skills and passive bonuses. Promotions open new talent tiers, but nothing is learned automatically — you still choose where the cards go.

Two pieces of content sit directly behind the title. The Main Story quest Rainbow of the Ground checks for level 50, the Wayfarer III title, and Elite Training Chapter Five before it will start. Egg Heist, the extraction mode on the Lost Isles, also opens at level 50 once you are Wayfarer III.

Pathfinder titles and level caps

Each title in the ladder grants a fixed ceiling, so it is easy to confirm where you currently stand from the character info menu.

Pathfinder titleLevel cap
Student III40
Wayfarer I45
Wayfarer II50
Wayfarer III55
Trailblazer I60

Research Level is a separate system tied to individual Aniimo families. Raising it never removes a Pathfinder cap, so do not grind Field Notes expecting your character level to move.

Elite Training objectives for the Wayfarer III promotion

Open Elite Training and look for the trial page titled Proof of Trials: Dance of Flowers and Thorns. It lists more objectives than you need, and the promotion sequence becomes available once the counter reads 4/4. The set that satisfies it:

  • Use Nurture five times in total in Breezy Plains.
  • Upgrade any Held item to level 5.
  • Complete one Easy Holo-Battle Sim.
  • Obtain the Flameheart Stone and give it to Sunia.

Nurture is used from the Bloom in Breezy Plains, so teleport there and run the activity five times rather than hunting for it elsewhere. The Held item objective is handled from the Aniimo roster: pick a party member, open its Held Items screen, and push a single item to level 5 instead of spreading materials across several.

The Holo-Battle Sim requirement is the fastest of the four. Any Easy stage counts, and the mode offers Grass, Water and Fire Training runs, so pick whichever one your team counters cleanly.

The same chapter also tracks story progress under the Chapter of Flowers and Butterfly Shadow entry, which is worth checking before you assume an objective is bugged — some entries only tick over as the campaign advances.

Earning the Bronze Collection Badge in Rosetower Woods

One of the alternative objectives asks for the Bronze Collection Badge in Rosetower Woods. Badges track subregion completion, so open the area map and check your exploration percentage — the bronze tier lands at 40 percent. Catching new Aniimo in the woods, opening chests and clearing collection points all push the bar, and the map shows exactly how far short you are.

The Zephyrus Landbridge promotion duels

With the objectives cleared, the promotion moves into the Growth Story line as The Secret on the Wind at Zephyrus Landbridge. Both fights happen in one visit, so bring healing and a team that can survive two full battles back to back.

Open the Quest Log, find The Secret on the Wind at Zephyrus Landbridge under Growth Story, and answer Dr. Lewis’s call. The holographic call is what arms the encounter — until you take it, nothing spawns at the landbridge.
Set the Zephyrus Landbridge waypoint on the Breezy Plains map and ride out. The quest target updates to point you toward the pond where your examiner is waiting.

Zephyrus Landbridge sits in Breezy Plains and covers a level range of 47 to 57, with wild Aniimo on the rocks either side of the crossing. Riding straight through is fine; nothing on the route blocks the quest.

Approach Wendell, the NPC standing among the wild birds by the water, and accept the duel. He introduces himself as the holder of the Sonata of the Wind Badge and fields a level 45 squad of March, Concerto, Rhapsody and Nocturne, leaning on wind attacks and Waltz buffs.
Work the Break gauge rather than trading hits. March and Concerto both drop into Break under sustained skill pressure, and Concerto is sent back out for a second pass late in the fight, so keep an element that answers wind in rotation.

Talk to Wendell after the Battle Won banner. The conversation turns into an extra assessment, and he is unmasked as an impostor — a member of the Umbral Society standing in for the real examiner.

Fight the Mysterious Figure. This is the harder half of the assessment: the same roster returns at level 50, with March, Concerto, Nocturne and Rhapsody cycling in and out and Concerto appearing multiple times. Watch for the telegraphed ground rings and keep dodging through the slash patterns instead of tanking them.
After the second Battle Won screen, speak to the defeated figure and ask about their intentions. The quest target then changes to returning to the Outpost and reporting to Dr. Lewis.

Dr. Lewis theory assessment answers

Teleport to the Outpost in Breezy Plains and speak to Pathfinder Instructor Dr. Lewis, who is standing with Icho. Choose “I’m ready. Let’s start.” and answer three multiple-choice questions.

#QuestionCorrect answer
1What can help you clear a higher-difficulty Holo-Battle Sim?D. All of the Above
2How do you obtain Cores that enhance Held item stats?A. Defeat Alpha Aniimo
3What can make Prismana Form Aniimo appear?B. All of the Above

Confirming the promotion went through

Dr. Lewis congratulates you on attaining Grade III Wayfarer, and an Assessment Passed screen follows with the title, its rewards, and a prompt to open your talents. Accepting that prompt drops you into the Active Skill and Passive Talents grid with the newly unlocked entries visible.

Two checks confirm it stuck. The character info menu should now read Wayfarer III with a level 50 cap replaced by 55, and Rainbow of the Ground should no longer be greyed out in the Main Story once Elite Training Chapter Five is also complete. Spend the Report Cards from the promotion before heading back to the campaign, since the new talent tier does nothing until you buy into it.
