No Man’s Sky Cosmos 7.04 Patch Notes: Expedition and Settlement Fixes

Hello Games has pushed another round of repairs to No Man’s Sky – Cosmos, and 7.04 is the largest cleanup pass since the 7.0 launch earlier in September. The list runs long, but the headline items are the ones that were stopping players from finishing missions: blocked expedition milestones, looping Atlas Path objectives, and settlements quietly working against their own owners.

Quick answer: Patch 7.04 went live on Steam for PC and Mac on September 21, 2026. Update through Steam, reload your save, and confirm your Atlas Path and expedition missions now track normally.

Where Cosmos patch 7.04 is available

7.04 shipped first on Steam, covering PC and Mac. Hello Games has said the same fixes are headed to the other platforms as soon as they are ready, but no date has been confirmed for those builds yet. Console players are still on the earlier Cosmos patches in the meantime, with 7.03 having gone out across PlayStation, Xbox, and Game Pass, and 7.03.1 reaching PS5.

Steam applies the update automatically, but if the game was left running you will need to close and relaunch it before the build actually swaps over.

Mission blockers fixed in 7.04

The most disruptive bugs in Cosmos were the ones that stalled progress outright. The first Atlas Path mission could keep re-selecting itself in the log, effectively hijacking your active objective no matter what else you tried to track. That loop is gone.

In Stellar Multitudes had two distinct issues. With Crafting set to Free, the game could miss that you had installed the Atlantid Drive; additionally, the first purple system you restored was sometimes left lower in the teleporter destination list instead of being moved to the top. Both issues now work correctly.

Deep-space salvage contracts were also unreliable when you had several of the same mission type running at once, which caused collection and completion to break down. Running multiple salvage jobs in parallel is now handled correctly.

One more quiet blocker is worth knowing about. If you saved while standing on the Space Anomaly, mission markers on the Anomaly itself could fail to load when you came back, leaving you with nothing to follow. Those markers now populate properly on reload.

Our Journey Continues expedition fixes

The 10th anniversary expedition took the biggest share of the patch. The most costly bug charged nanites for the new reward ships you claim during the expedition, when they were meant to be free. The vintage Sentinel Interceptor had a related problem, since players could not add it to their ship collection without trading away an existing ship.

That same interceptor also got a pass on its visual effects, which were not matching the rest of the ship.

The rest of the expedition work is spread across individual milestones:

  • Selling your Multi-Tool before reaching the Beyond milestone could leave you stuck, so the Terrain Manipulator blueprint is learned automatically at the start.
  • Legacy space stations failed to appear on the Star System Map, and Corvettes could teleport into them and get stuck.
  • The Voyagers milestone did not place a marker on the Corvette Workshop location.
  • Nexus missions about creature taming and fishing were being offered during the Beyond milestone, where they do not belong.
  • A rare Waking Titan portal bug sent players to the wrong destination.
  • A third-person character model could show up before third person is unlocked.

Text-related issues were corrected as well. The Weekend Missions milestone could direct players to use the Analysis Visor to find Knowledge Stones on worlds where none exist, Worlds II contained a wording mistake, and the developer notes read by Sean Murray lacked their platform-specific lines.

Space station, Corvette and deep-space changes

Station directors get the biggest quality-of-life win here. An unintended cap limited how many space stations a single player could claim, and that restriction has been lifted.

Exterior station decoration also had invisible collision on very large parts, which meant ships could bump into nothing while flying in. That collision has been tightened up, and corvette landing docks no longer show up on civilian frigates where they were never supposed to appear.

Corvettes themselves got several corrections. They spawn in a better position when you teleport to a space base, salvage that refused to be pulled inside the ship now loads correctly, and the hint message about refunded corvette modules no longer lingers after it stops being relevant. Out in deep space, some points of interest produced wildly oversized explosions when destroyed, and frigates near those objects could spawn far away or clipped into geometry. Rare space hulk salvage items that were failing to spawn now appear, and log snippets on derelict freighters sit in the right place.

Settlement fixes: productivity, debt and construction terminals

Three settlement bugs in 7.04 stand out because they actively punished players for managing their towns.

ProblemBehaviour before 7.04
Productivity boostsLowered item production instead of raising it
Settlement debtCould jump to roughly 2 billion units
Building progressConstruction terminals failed to spawn

The construction terminal issue was the worst of the three, because a missing terminal left the build permanently stuck with no way to continue. Several separate causes behind that were tracked down and fixed.

Crashes, memory and platform-specific fixes

Stability work in this patch covers a memory crash, an audio threading crash, and a rare hang that could occur during a reload. Alongside those, several fixes are tied to specific hardware or input methods.

PlatformChange
MacVolumetrics from space and planetary clouds corrected
Xbox OneImproved memory usage
Switch 2Improved memory usage
VRIncorrect input processing on some controllers

The Xbox One, Switch 2 and VR improvements are part of the 7.04 build, so they only take effect on those platforms once the patch reaches them.

Audio, visual and interface corrections

The same pass also cleared up numerous minor presentation issues. Space ambience could use the wrong audio, certain locations were excessively loud, portals could omit some activation effects, and the sky could flicker during the initialisation sequence. Ships now decelerate less abruptly when departing the Space Anomaly, and placing the Anomaly within planetary rings no longer makes its interior foggy.

  • Underwater particles could stay visible after you left the water.
  • Analysis Visor UI elements scaled incorrectly with the HUD disabled.
  • Alliance leaderboard numbers use better formatting.
  • Creature navigation and inverse kinematics received a round of improvements.
  • Oceanus creature training battles opened the freighter inventory transfer page by mistake.
  • The Echo Locator reminder fired repeatedly, and the companion egg hatching reminder triggered even with no free pet slots.

Conversation text with Iterations Gemini and Hesperus was showing raw untranslated text IDs, and fishing missions had a minor wording problem when the Fishing Rig was not yet known. Both now read correctly.

Reporting a bug that 7.04 did not fix

If something on your save still misbehaves after updating, Hello Games is triaging reports through its support form and console crash reporting, and has said further patches will follow as issues are identified.

For anyone mid-expedition, the practical takeaway is that 7.04 is worth grabbing before you push further into Our Journey Continues. Most of the milestones that could dead-end a run are covered here, and the fixes apply to saves already in progress rather than requiring a restart.
