Everlasting Echoback Song is the whale-bone Journey at Echoback Landing, and it starts with a painter who cannot finish her memory. The puzzle looks broken if you run it wrong, because the blue crystals along the shore only respond after dark. Once you understand that single condition, the rest is just following the light.
Quick answer: Find the painter Sorora beside the whale bones at Echoback Landing. Set the time to night, then hit the Echonites in the sequence indicated by their resonance trail. Once the whale scene finishes, go back to Sorora and finish the Journey.
Where to start Everlasting Echoback Song in Echoback Landing
Echoback Landing sits in the northwest part of the map, inside the Breezy Plains region. It is a pink-sand beach built around a huge whale skeleton, and the recommended level for the area is 37 to 41. Ride out along the shore and watch for the easel on the rocks.
If you track the Journey, the marker points to the landing at roughly -1598, 1553. Open the world map to confirm you are heading to the correct beach before you set out, since the region has several nearby points of interest.
The painter by the easel is named Sorora. Speak with her to trigger the opening scene, where she explains the legend of the Echoback and asks for your help recording the memory. Keep talking through the dialogue until the Journey appears in your Log with its first target, which points you to the vine-covered blue crystal on the shore.
Set the time to night before touching the Echonites
The blue crystals are called Echonites, and night is a real quest condition, not a suggestion. During the day the crystals look the same but will not react, so a crystal that seems correct can still refuse to start the chain. Open the clock and advance the world to Nighttime before you try anything.
The first Echonite near the bones is tucked under vines. To reach it, Twine with a Fire-type Aniimo and use Aim to burn the vines away, then strike the crystal itself. Any fire partner works for this, so Flameruff or Scorchhowl are both fine choices.
Activate the Echonite chain and follow the resonance
The route is the light trail, not the map marker. Hitting every blue crystal at random will not work, because the chain only extends when you strike the active node the resonance points to. An active Echonite has a slight shimmer, so ignore any plain crystal the trail has not reached yet.
When the resonance trail vanishes, go back to the most recently lit Echonite and hit it once more to bring the trail back. Make sure it is still night, then trace the connection leading onward. Restarting the entire Journey is unnecessary.
Finish the whale scene and return to Sorora
Activating the last Echonite plays a cinematic where the constellations align and a giant astral whale rises singing over the night sky, communicating with the young in the water. The changed objective, not the whale itself, is what confirms the puzzle has advanced.
Swim back to the beach and speak with Sorora again. She lets you choose a title for the finished painting, with options such as Symphony of Reunion or Echoes of a Vigil, and then shows you the completed canvas of the starry night and the glowing Echobacks. Completing this final conversation closes the Journey and pays out its reward, which includes Sparklites, bright crystals, the painting, and Credits.
If the whale scene has already played but the Journey still shows as incomplete, it is waiting on that closing dialogue. Return to the painter before leaving the region.
The Whalesong Blossom is a separate pickup for A Fragrant Journey
After the whale scene, an unusual flower called the Whalesong Blossom blooms on the north side of the beach. This is tied to the Echoback perfume branch, A Fragrant Journey, and it is a separate collection objective. Finishing the whale story does not pick it up or hand it in for you.
Collect the blossom, then travel to Bloomville and give it to Elvira. She uses it to create the Whisper of Longing perfume and gifts it to you, closing out her side of the story. Check that branch in your Log separately if the perfume task is still open.
Remember that Everlasting Echoback Song and Stars and the Knight are separate Journeys; Stars and the Knight unlocks Omega Sherro. Neither a boss encounter nor a regular whale offshore takes the place of the Echonite puzzle, so trace the resonance chain instead of presuming that a nearby fight is part of it.
