Counter-Strike 2 now lets you keep a pet chicken. The feature arrived quietly with the Rush Hour update on September 22, 2026, with no mention in the patch notes, and players only found it when a Chicken Egg started showing up in their weekly rewards. Each egg hatches into one of dozens of chickens spread across three breeds, and the exact one you get is a random roll you cannot pick.
Quick answer: Get a Chicken Egg from the Weekly Care Package drop (Prime account required), wait about a week for it to hatch into a chick, then feed the chick with Chicken Feed to grow it into one of over 30 colored chickens across the Catalana, Polish, and Silkie breeds.
How to get a Chicken Egg in CS2
The only way to get a chicken is through the Weekly Care Package drop, and you need a Prime account to access it. The egg is a randomized reward, so it will not appear every time you roll your weekly package. You keep checking each week and hope one turns up.
If the weekly drop contains an egg, it consumes the two reward slots available that week. Selecting it leaves the rest of that week’s package unavailable. At present, there is no way to purchase an egg through the in-game store or obtain one by trading with another player.

Once claimed, the egg does not sit in your inventory like a case or sticker. It appears in a small basket next to your character in the main menu, and you can inspect it up close the same way you inspect a weapon skin. Hovering over the basket shows a status line that reads “Your egg will hatch soon.” That basket is visible to others in a party lobby, so friends can see it without opening your profile.
Hatching and raising your chicken
The chicken grows through three stages: egg, chick, then adult chicken. The egg hatches on its own after roughly a week, with a countdown running while it sits in your menu. All chicks look the same when they first hatch, so your breed and color will not be visible until the chick grows up.
Growth requires feeding: use Chicken Feed, a separate item obtained through weekly drops. If you continue feeding it, the chick develops into a young chicken and then reaches its adult form. It remains in the main menu instead of appearing in matches, where you can examine it up close, pet it, and teach it small tricks.
Without Chicken Feed your chick stops growing, so you need to keep playing and claiming weekly drops to raise it to adulthood.
You know the process is working when the egg’s basket appears in your main menu after the drop, the tooltip confirms it will hatch soon, and the model progresses from egg to chick to a fully grown, colored chicken over the following weeks.

Can you trade or choose a specific chicken?
No. There is currently no way to trade chickens or eggs between players, and you cannot buy a specific breed or color. Because the egg is a random drop and every chick looks identical until it grows, you cannot influence which variant you end up with. To chase a particular color, you keep claiming Weekly Care Packages, hope an egg appears, and hope it grows into the chicken you want.
