How to Complete From The Wreckage…. in WoW Classic (Gnomish Tools)

From The Wreckage…. is a short Horde quest in Durotar that sends you diving through sunken ships off the coast to recover three Gnomish Tools. It is one of the fastest experience quests in the starting zone once you know exactly where the toolboxes sit and how to grab them without drowning.

Quick answer: Swim east from Razor Hill to the sunken ships at Scuttle Coast, loot 3 Gnomish Toolboxes (found on and under the wrecks), then return to Gar’Thok in Razor Hill to turn the quest in.

Quest basics for From The Wreckage….

Gar’Thok of Razor Hill both gives and receives this quest. It follows Vanquish the Betrayers in the Durotar chain, and it is sharable if you are grouped. The quest was removed from the modern game in patch 4.0.3a, but it still exists in World of Warcraft: Classic.

Where the Gnomish Tools are at Scuttle Coast

The wreckage of Proudmoore’s fleet lies just off the coast at Scuttle Coast, directly east of Razor Hill in Durotar. Look at the zone map and follow the shoreline until you reach the wider stretch of water where two sunken ships rest. That fat section of coastline marks the spot.

The Gnomish Toolboxes are scattered across the ships. Some rest on the half-sunken hulls above the waterline, while most are on the seabed near the frames and beams. You can gather all three from a single wreck if you want, since the boxes respawn quickly.

How to loot all 3 Gnomish Toolboxes

Leave Razor Hill and head east across the red hills down to the shoreline. Enter the water and swim out toward the visible shipwrecks.

Swim out to the southern ship first. Dive down along the outer hull pillars and beams and look for the small metallic chests labeled Gnomish Toolbox. Right-click to loot the first one for Gnomish Tools (1/3).

Search the lower structural beams and seabed around the same wreck to find and loot a second toolbox for Gnomish Tools (2/3). Surface between dives to refill your breath.

Swim north to the second ship, marked by its mast rising above the water. Go through the opening in the hull wall and take the third Gnomish Toolbox from the floor inside, completing Gnomish Tools (3/3).

The toolboxes respawn fast, often within 20 to 30 seconds. If you would rather not swim between wrecks, loot one box, take a breath at the surface, and wait for it to reappear until you have all three.

Watch your breath bar while diving, or you will start losing health once it empties. The aquatic Makura Shellhide (a level 7 beast) can also aggro nearby, so be ready to move or fight it off.

Turn in the quest and confirm completion

Once the objective tracker reads Gnomish Tools 3/3 and the Objective Complete banner appears, swim back to shore and return to Razor Hill. Talk to Gar’Thok at the watchtower to hand in the tools and finish the quest.

Completing it awards 700 experience along with reputation gains for Orgrimmar and the Darkspear Trolls. You also choose one of three armor rewards.

With the tools delivered, the quest closes out of your log and Gar’Thok sends the recovered gear off to Orgrimmar. If you are leveling through Durotar, pair this with the other coastal quests in the area so a single trip to the water covers several objectives at once.
