Core Competency is one of the easiest bronze trophies in Control Resonant, and it rewards you the first time you complete a single Health Upgrade or Power Upgrade for Dylan. The catch is that upgrades are not one-and-done pickups. Each full Health Upgrade is built from three Health Upgrade Points, so the trophy only fires the moment you slot in the third piece and the game credits you with a complete upgrade.

Quick answer: Obtain one full Health Upgrade or Power Upgrade. The quickest guaranteed route is grabbing Health Upgrade Point 3/3 inside the Urban Fresh Mart hideout in the West Incursion Zone using cash register code 1213.

What triggers the Core Competency trophy

The unlock condition is simple: obtain a Health Upgrade or a Power Upgrade. Both types are assembled from smaller pieces you find across Manhattan, and every three pieces count as one finished upgrade. The trophy pops on the piece that pushes you over the line into a complete upgrade, not on your very first fragment.

Because of that, the fastest reliable way to trigger it is to head somewhere that hands you the final piece of a set. The Urban Fresh Mart hideout does exactly that, dropping Health Upgrade Point 3/3 and closing out a full Health Upgrade in a single visit.

Unlock it fast at Urban Fresh Mart in the West Incursion Zone

Urban Fresh Mart is one of the six Secret Hideouts in the game, sitting along the main street in the West Incursion Zone, on the stretch between the House of Mirrors and the Museum of Curiosities. It shows up as a SECRET marker on your map once you get close.

Travel to the West Incursion Zone and make your way to the storefront marked SECRET. Clear the enemies guarding the entrance first, then cross the street and step inside.

Walk over to the THIRST STATION soda dispenser near the window. The four-digit register code is worked out from its flashing light pattern, read in reverse, which gives you 1213.

How you know it worked

When the third piece registers, you will see the Health Upgrade Point 3/3 notification confirming the set is complete, followed by the “Core Competency” trophy earned prompt. Your maximum health also increases, which is the practical payoff for finishing the upgrade.

If you have already collected Health Upgrade Points elsewhere and completed a full upgrade earlier in your run, the trophy will have unlocked at that point instead. Either way, any single completed Health Upgrade or Power Upgrade satisfies the condition, so this route is just the cleanest one-stop option if you have not yet finished a set.
