Yagluth, Valheim’s fifth boss, is an ancient Fuling king with 10,000 HP. In the Plains, he claws up from underground as a crowned torso with half a skeleton, and his attacks all deal Fire damage, making an unprepared arrival costly. His three moves become predictable once learned; locating the altar and collecting the summoning totems are usually the tougher tasks.
Quick answer: Keep Fire Resistance Barley Wine active at all times, hit him with a non-Pierce melee weapon like Frostner or the Silver Sword, dodge the blue Nova slam, and hide behind the altar’s stone pillars to block meteors and the fire beam.
How to summon Yagluth
Yagluth’s Forsaken Altar looks like a giant stone hand reaching out of the earth, with five curved pillars visible from a distance. Its Vegvisir runestone has one of the lowest spawn rates in the game, so sailing the coastlines of Plains biomes and spotting the pillars directly is often faster than hunting for the runestone. Do not skip small Plains islands, since the altar can appear on them.
Summoning him requires five Fuling Totems placed in the altar’s offering bowls. Collect them from these sources across the Plains before you arrive:
- Fuling Village bonfires — about a 50% chance of a totem on a pedestal beside each bonfire.
- Fuling Outposts — certain guard-tower layouts contain a guaranteed totem.
- Fuling Berserkers — a small drop chance when killed.
- Stonehenge center chests — a low chance of containing one.
Interact with a displayed totem to pick it up before destroying the pedestal or structure holding it, or it may not drop. Totems can be carried through portals.
Clear all Fulings, Deathsquitos, and Lox near the altar before you start, and place a Workbench nearby to suppress mob spawns. Once you drop the final totem, Yagluth begins rising from the center of the altar.

Yagluth has no damage weakness: Blunt, Slash, Frost, Lightning, and Spirit all deal full damage. Fire damage is reduced, and Pierce is heavily resisted, so don’t rely on bows or spears as your main weapon. Have a complete, upgraded loadout ready before summoning him.
| Slot | Recommended |
|---|---|
| Weapon | Frostner (Blunt/Frost/Spirit) or Silver Sword (Slash/Spirit) |
| Shield | Shield of Roots or Black Metal Shield |
| Armor | Full Padded set, Lox Cape |
| Food | Lox Meat Pie, Fish Wraps or Serpent Stew, Blood Pudding |
| Potions | Fire Resistance Barley Wine, Medium Healing Mead, Minor Stamina Mead |
| Forsaken Power | Bonemass Power (physical damage resistance) |

Fire Resistance Barley Wine is not optional. Every one of Yagluth’s attacks includes Fire damage, and letting the buff lapse can kill you in seconds. Bring at least two bottles and plenty of Medium Healing Mead, and refresh the resistance whenever it nears expiry. Avoid becoming Wet, which increases fire vulnerability.
If you want to compare weapons, Frostner’s knockback and slow help control any Fulings that wander in, while the Silver Sword deals more raw damage per swing and has a heavy thrust. Both avoid his Pierce resistance and apply Spirit damage. Do not bring Black Metal weapons that deal Pierce, and skip Poison Arrows entirely since he is immune to Poison.
Yagluth’s three attacks and how to counter them
Yagluth has exactly three attacks, and the glow on his raised hand tells you which one is coming. He cannot be staggered, so parrying gives no bonus damage window. Read the tell, avoid the hit, then punish.
| Attack | Tell | Damage | Counter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meteors | Left fist glows red | 40 Blunt + 120 Fire per meteor (10 meteors) | Get behind a pillar or directly behind him |
| Beam | Deep breath, head lowers | 40 Fire + 20 Lightning per projectile (20) | Sprint sideways or break line of sight |
| Nova | Right fist glows blue | 65 Fire + 65 Lightning, plus 100 Fire lingering | Dodge or back beyond 10 meters, leave the blue flames |
Meteors (red fist)
Lifting his left fist calls down ten burning stones in a volley. They arc in from behind him, so take cover directly behind Yagluth or behind a pillar on the opposite side. He launches this attack when you are less than 30 meters away.

Beam (deep breath)
He fires a roughly 40-meter stream of 20 fiery projectiles that slowly tracks your position and applies both Burning and Lightning. Do not run straight away from it, as the long range keeps hitting you. Strafe sideways or circle a pillar and it ends quickly. This is used when you are 10 to 40 meters away.

Nova (blue fist)
His close-quarters attack: Yagluth lifts his glowing blue right fist and drives it into the ground, triggering a 10-meter blast followed by lingering blue flames that deal 100 Fire damage over time. The first impact is blockable or avoidable, but blocking won’t stop the flames. Move beyond 10 meters or roll away, then keep clear of the blue fire. He uses this move only when you’re within 10 meters.
Step-by-step fight plan

Rewards and how to confirm the kill
You know Yagluth is dead when his health bar empties and the on-screen message reads “Yagluth’s soul has been defeated.” His body collapses and leaves a drop pile at the center of the altar.
- Yagluth Trophy — mount it at a boss altar to gain the Yagluth Power.
- Torn Spirit (x3) — used to craft the Wisp Fountain at a Stonecutter.
Collect the Torn Spirits and trophy from the drop location, and the fight is complete. With his three attacks memorized and Fire Resistance kept up the whole way, Yagluth becomes one of the most consistent boss fights in the game, and the Wisp Fountain he unlocks is your next step toward exploring the Mistlands.
