Picking a server in Aion 2 is the second real choice you make, right after deciding between Elyos and Asmodian. The game drops you straight into the selection screen without explaining what any of it means, so it is easy to click through and regret it later. Where you land affects your ping, who you fight in open-world PvP, how your market behaves, and whether friends can even group with you.
Quick answer: Choose your region first for the lowest ping, then your faction, then the specific server your friends or legion are on. Region and faction matter far more than chasing the busiest name.

Does your server choice actually matter?
Yes, but not evenly across the game. Most PvE content is handled solo or through cross-server matchmaking, so the server name on your character has little effect on dungeons and story progression. Instanced content, including dungeons, runs cross-server, which softens the pain of starting on a quieter world.
PvP is where the decision carries weight. Open-world fighting in the Abyss and Spacetime Rifts depends entirely on your server’s population and its matchmaking partner. A server with a strong, active faction gives you backup during these events. A thin one leaves you outnumbered no matter who you face.

Latency is the factor that outweighs all the others. Aion 2 is built on reaction-based combat with dodging and positioning, and high ping (shown in yellow or red) makes even ordinary expeditions miserable. Rubberbanding stops you from reacting to boss mechanics, and in PvP you will simply lose fights you should win. Because it is an MMO, you are always connected, so a bad connection hurts PvE players too.
There are five regions, each running on its own clock. Pick the one physically closest to you.
| Region | Servers | Server time |
|---|---|---|
| North America East | 16 | Eastern Time (UTC−4) |
| North America West | 10 | Pacific Time (UTC−7) |
| Europe | 44 | Central European Time (UTC+2) |
| Asia | 18 | Not yet published |
| Latin America | 12 | Not yet published |
A region contains its own group of home servers. Server names may be reused across regions; EU Siel and NA East Siel, for example, refer to entirely separate worlds. When arranging play with others, identify your region, faction, and server.
A faraway region may show a higher population, but choosing it for that reason is a mistake: in aerial combat that depends on quick reactions, the extra ping is not worth it.

Faction is baked into the server
Every server houses a single faction. Elyos players and Asmodian players live on separate worlds and never share the same home server. Choosing Elyos or Asmodian therefore decides which pool of servers you can even see.
The two sides only meet in cross-faction content. If you want to play alongside a friend, you must share the exact same region, faction, and server. Landing on a paired enemy server does not make you allies; it makes you opponents in the Abyss.
How server matchmaking and pairings work
For world PvP in the Abyss and Spacetime Rifts, each server is paired with a single server belonging to the enemy faction. That pairing sets which opposing server you face, while members of your faction join you in those activities.
These pairings are not permanent. They rotate with game updates, generally shifting to a different opposing server every 15 to 20 days. Because the rival changes, there is no point locking in a server purely because you like its current enemy. A busy, committed PvP population on your own side is the thing that stays useful no matter who you are matched against.

Established servers vs fresh servers
Older worlds have a settled Auction House. Prices and exchange rates are stable and rarely swing much, so you can plan purchases and sales with confidence. Newer servers behave in the opposite way. Materials are scarce, easily farmed items can sell for inflated prices, and genuinely rare drops sometimes go for next to nothing because sellers have not learned their value yet.
Neither type is better overall. A fresh server offers a level race on equal footing and a new community. An established one gives you a deeper market and easier group finding. Pick based on whether you want to start clean or slot into an active economy.
The “Character Creation Restricted” error
When a server hits its population cap, Aion 2 blocks new character creation on it and shows the Character Creation Restricted tag. This is the usual reason you and a friend cannot roll together on a popular world: one of you can get in before capacity is reached, and the other cannot.
In busy periods, every server in your region can carry the restricted tag at once. When that happens, there is no workaround. You wait for NCSoft to open a new server or for an existing server’s population to drop back below the cap.

Server transfers start October 14
You are not locked to your first pick forever. Server transfers are coming to Aion 2 starting October 14, 2026, but the rules limit where you can move.
- Transfers stay within the same faction. An Elyos character cannot move to an Asmodian server, and the reverse is also blocked.
- Early Access characters can only move to other Early Access servers; Commercial Launch characters can only move to other Launch servers.
- Transfers are free on October 14, with a fee added later.
- Server Storage is wiped on transfer, but character storage moves across intact.
The Early Access and Launch split matters here. Do not settle on a server you dislike on the assumption you can freely jump to any newly opened world on October 14. You cannot cross between the two server types during the initial transfer system.
A simple way to decide
Use this sequence to narrow things down. First, choose the region nearest your location to keep ping low. After that, pick Elyos or Asmodian; your faction choice determines the available server pool. For the final server, join the one used by your friends or legion, or select from the client’s recommended options instead of trying to predict which server name will become most populated. Dungeons work across servers, and matchmaking pairings change every couple of weeks. That means region and faction are the only choices you are truly locked into, so choose those carefully; the remaining decision will take care of itself.
