Valheim: Getting Rested at the Bog Witch’s Hut and Everything She Sells

Step into her Swamp hut for Comfort 3 and a 10-minute Rested buff, then trade coins for feast spices and potion ingredients.

The Bog Witch’s hut offers Shelter and Fire in the Swamp. The hut provides Comfort 3, clears Wet, and grants Rested; the Bog Witch sells cooking ingredients and other items.

Quick answer: Walk into the hut and stand near the cauldron fire. Wet clears in a few seconds, and after about 20 seconds you gain Rested (10:00) at Comfort 3. Aim at the Bog Witch for the [E] Talk prompt to open her store.

A wet character walks into the Bog Witch’s hut in the Swamp, dries off, gets Rested at comfort 3, then opens the Bog Witch’s store.

Finding the hut and what to bring

The Bog Witch appears only in the Swamp. A world can generate up to 10 candidate locations for her; each is at least 1,000 meters from the others and lies 3,000 to 8,000 meters from the map’s center. A cauldron icon marks the location on your map when you approach, and remains after you discover the camp.

A Kvastur with 700 health guards the camp. If you kill it, it drops Wood, Resin and its trophy.

Among dead trees, search a grassy rise for a circular hut topped with a shaggy thatch roof and a curved hook. A raven perch lit blue stands outside, while an orange glow shines from a doorway in the side.

How to get Rested inside the hut

Climb the broad stone stairs and enter through the doorway. It has no door, so you can go straight inside.

Going beneath the roof grants Shelter, while the fire in the room’s center grants Fire. The notice “You are sheltered” appears at the top of the screen.

Stay near the fire without moving. After a few seconds beneath the roof, Wet clears long before its timer expires, and “You are dry again” appears. Then “Resting…” appears in the middle of the screen at Comfort: 3.

Keep standing for about 20 seconds. “You feel rested (Comfort:3)” appears and the Rested icon shows with 10:00 on the clock. You now have Rested, Resting, Shelter and Fire all running at once.

Keep one step away from the cauldron. Standing over it gives “You can’t breathe in the smoke!” and the Smoked status, and standing in the flame burns you.

The numbers behind Comfort 3 and Rested

Comfort inside the hut is fixed at 3, and because the 24-meter no-build zone stops you placing any furniture, you cannot raise it. The Rested buff lasts 8 minutes as a base, plus 1 minute for each comfort level above 1, so Comfort 3 gives exactly 10:00.

While Rested is active, health regeneration runs at x1.5, stamina regeneration at x2, eitr regeneration at x2, and all skill gain increases by 50 percent. During the 20-second Resting phase before Rested lands, regeneration is even higher, with health at x3 and both stamina and eitr at x4.

This is useful in the Swamp, where Wet affects you much of the time. It lasts 2 minutes, lowers health regeneration to x0.75 and stamina regeneration to x0.85, and makes you vulnerable to frost and lightning. The hut removes Wet for free, without requiring you to provide a workbench, roof, or campfire.

How to open the store

In the shadows near the rear wall, the Bog Witch waits apart from the cauldron, surrounded by roots and shelves stocked with green herbs. Feathers and twigs cover her hunched form; her bright blue eyes stand out most clearly. Center your crosshair on her body and wait for the [E] Talk prompt, then interact to bring up the Store panel.

The Store panel lists prices in coins. The Store panel shows your coin count and a scrolling list.

Everything the Bog Witch sells

Some stock unlocks after specific boss kills; other items unlock after defeating a Serpent. Eight lines are available from the moment you find her, and the rest unlock after specific kills. Most items come in bundles of 3, 5 or 50, and the price shown is for the whole bundle.

Common mix-ups to avoid

  • The talk prompt only shows when your crosshair is on the Bog Witch’s body, so you may need to step a little to one side of the cauldron and look into the dark.
  • The entrance hall in a Sunken Crypt grants Shelter too. It has no fire of its own, so Resting does not start there.
  • Prices on each line are for the full bundle, not per unit, so a x5 line delivers five items for the listed cost.
  • The 24-meter no-build zone blocks portals, beds, workbenches, and fires near the hut, so place any portal more than 24 meters away.

The Rested icon reads 10:00 at Comfort 3, and the Store panel opens. The hut is a dry spot with a fire, Comfort 3, and access to the Bog Witch’s store. Haldor is in the Black Forest, and Hildir is in the Meadows.
