Norgan weapons and armor sit a tier above anything you can forge or find in Vermund and Battahl, and you do not have to be deep into the campaign to start collecting them. With a little patience and a willingness to take a beating, you can reach the snowy north early, unlock appraisals, and farm low-level spoils without swinging at a single enemy.
Quick answer: Finish the Chilling Tidings quest to reach Norgan, trigger the Relics of the Past quest to unlock Jiera’s appraisal, then loot the scrap pile past the settlement’s northern gate for Level 1 spoils.

Reach Norgan through the Chilling Tidings quest
Getting to Norgan early means pushing the Chilling Tidings quest before your character is really ready for it. None of these steps require combat, but the trek itself is dangerous on a low-level Arisen, so travel carefully.

Spoils, sometimes called relics, come mainly from defeating enemies, but chests and scrap piles can also hand them over. Before any of that loot is useful, you need someone to identify it. Talk to the NPCs around the settlement to start the Relics of the Past quest. You do not have to finish it. Simply beginning it unlocks the ability to appraise spoils through Jiera.
Once Jiera can appraise for you, the early farming loop is open.
Where to loot scrap piles near the settlement
Leave the Norgandian Settlement through the northern gate. Before you cross the bridge, look to your right. A scrap pile sits down at the bottom, resting on a cluster of rocks. Climb down, loot it, and hope for a spoil type that matches your build.
There is a second option a little further north. A destroyed hut sits up the river, visible from the riverbed, with its own scrap pile. Beorcans tend to patrol around it, so this spot carries more risk. You can reach the loot by slipping past them with the Thief’s Shadow Cloak or Smoke Screen abilities, grabbing the spoils, and vanishing before they catch you.

Scrap heaps in this section of Norgan yield Level 1 spoils only. Reaching richer regions requires more Dark Arisen quest progress, leaving this early farming route limited to the lowest tier.
Spoil types and appraisal costs
The scrap pile near the settlement can roll several kinds of Level 1 spoils. Each category points toward a different slice of gear, and appraisal is a gamble on which piece you end up with. Appraisal is paid for in Rift Crystals (RC), and the cost depends on the spoil, landing at either 5, 10, or 15 RC. Weapons usually sit at the top of that range.
| Spoil type | What it can become |
|---|---|
| Light Weaponry | Small weapons such as one-handed swords, daggers, and censers |
| Long Weaponry | Two-handed weapons |
| Helmets and Plastrons | Armor pieces |
Carry a spoil to Jiera and have her appraise it. With some luck, you walk away with a piece strong enough to kickstart your run. Weapon-type spoils typically cost 15 RC each to identify.

How scrap piles respawn
Once looted, a Norgan scrap pile takes three in-game days to replenish. Your resting spot matters: sleeping at the settlement inn or on a nearby bench prevents the pile beneath the bridge from returning, because resting too close blocks its respawn.
As a workaround, travel to Vermund with your Eternal Ferrystone and rest there. If the pile is still gone when you come back, rest a few more times, then check again.
Confirming it worked
You know the loop is running once the Relics of the Past prompt appears and Jiera offers to appraise your spoils. After appraisal, the identified weapon or armor shows up in your inventory as a proper, equippable piece rather than an unidentified relic. Equip the result right away, since even a single Norgan piece gives a low-level Arisen a real fighting chance against the barbarians in the north and makes most of Vermund and Battahl far easier on the trip back south.
