Wyldheart is a 1-to-4 player co-op action RPG from developer Wayfinder Studios and publisher Curve Games, and its first public demo is live right now. Built around drop-in, drop-out multiplayer and shared party XP, the game is pitched as a shorter, friendlier alternative to the sprawling MMOs and 100-to-300-hour RPGs that are hard to coordinate with friends.
Quick answer: Download the free Wyldheart demo on Steam now. It runs solo or with up to three friends and arrives ahead of October’s Steam Next Fest.
Status: Demo available now on Steam
What Wyldheart is
Wyldheart is a fantasy action RPG set in the fallen kingdom of Caerwyn. You play as a relatively unknown party rather than prophesied heroes, so the story is shaped by the characters you build rather than a fixed chosen-one arc. The trailer opens with adventurers pushing into dark ruins, trading sword and spell blows against monsters in forests and caverns, and sprinting across open fields.

The project comes from a small indie team of former AAA developers, led by co-founders Dennis and Fia Brännvall and Manne Ederyd, who previously held creative, studio, and technical director roles at DICE and Embark. The stated goal is to combine the feel of cozy tabletop sessions with a full-scale fantasy RPG.

Wyldheart accommodates one to four players, letting friends enter or leave a session without interrupting the run. If nobody else is available, you can play through the entire game solo.

Experience points are shared across the whole party. That means no one has to grind a separate character just to catch up to the group, so a friend can drop in and keep pace from the first session.

Character creation: ancestries, backgrounds, and a classless build
The demo includes the full character creator before you set off. You pick an ancestry, a story background, and then tune the finer details across several tabs. There are four ancestries and nineteen story backgrounds, with hundreds of customization options layered on top.
| Ancestry | Description |
|---|---|
| Freefolk | Proud, human-like heroes |
| Mossling | Small and frequently underestimated |
| Grimhorn | Towering, horned fighters |
| Stonefolk | Stout and sturdy |
The creation screen is organized into tabs for Origin, History, Face, Hair, Eyes, and Details, including a grid of hairstyle options and separate color choices. The result is a fully bespoke hero rather than a fixed class template.
Combat: melee, ranged, and four paths of magic
Wyldheart uses a classless skill system that lets you mix skill trees normally kept apart in other RPGs. You can pair melee or ranged weapon skills with the Oldways of Magic, and there are four paths of magic to combine as you like.
- Blight
- Pyre
- Rime
- Storm

On screen, spells project circular aiming and area-of-effect rings, and downed companions show a green plus icon that marks them for revival. The trailer runs through flooded ruins and a goblin-filled churchyard before closing on a large horned forest beast that slams the ground and forces the party to dodge.
What the demo includes
The demo is a self-contained one-shot that runs several hours and covers a slice of what a full campaign is meant to feel like. Alongside character creation, it drops you into a connected stretch of Caerwyn.
- The Slurper’s Den — a mushroom-themed dungeon with fungal enemies, neon-green fire to dodge, and caverns lit only by bioluminescence.
- The Whisperwoods — a wider region holding three more dungeons, the village of Rivermere with gossiping locals, plus random encounters and ambushes on the roads.
The build is labeled an in-development demo and is not the final version of the game.
