Added in Dark Arisen, Norgan is a frozen northern region where the loot system differs from the rest of Dragon’s Dogma 2. Rather than purchase or search for particular gear, gather unidentified relics known as Spoils from foes, chests, and wrecks beneath the water, then bring them back for appraisal to reveal usable equipment. One trip through Valgr Ravine, then Winter’s Path, and finally Underhill Passage can load you up with relics before you learn what they contain.

Quick answer: Spoils are unappraised relics from Norgan’s enemies and chests. Take them to Jiera in the Norgandian Settlement and spend Rift Crystals to appraise each one into a weapon, armor piece, or ring.
What Spoils are and where they drop
Spoils are timeworn arms and supplies left over from an ancient war. You find them as battle drops from Norgan’s creatures, inside chests along the rocky banks, and scattered through ruins and shipwrecks in the region’s rivers and lakes. Each one is useless until appraised, so the early loop is simply picking up everything you pass and hauling it home.
They come in named categories. Weapon relics carry labels like Aegis (shields), Ancient Bowstaff (bows, staves, and magickal bows), and Long Weaponry, while armor relics split into Ancient Greaves and Ancient Helm. Alongside those sit generic bundles called Abandoned Supplies, which appraise into consumables, tomes, rings, currency, and even weapon skills rather than equipment.

Supply bundles also turn up in the quieter corners of the map. Clearing a ruin or searching the debris in the water is often where the rarer caches sit, so vertical exploration pays off as much as combat.

Jiera handles appraisal in the Norgandian Settlement. Each item costs a set number of Rift Crystals to identify, and the result is randomized within that relic’s pool. A shield relic can only become a shield, a bowstaff relic can only become a bow or staff, and so on, so the category you pick up tells you the type of gear you will get back, just not the exact piece or its skill.
The side quest Relics of the Past introduces this service and rewards 3,000 experience for bringing Jiera your first relic. After that, she stays available for every batch you gather. If you are short on Rift Crystals, remember that relics themselves can be sold or traded back for crystals, so engaging with the system tends to refill the currency it spends.

You know an appraisal worked when the Spoils entry disappears from your inventory and a named weapon, armor piece, or ring takes its place, complete with full stats and any special skill rolled onto it.
Spoils appraisal costs and outcomes
Rift Crystal costs and the gear each relic can produce are fixed. The weapon and armor relics carry one or two special skill slots, which is where the built-in abilities on your appraised gear come from.
| Spoils (Lv 1) | Appraisal (RC) | Skill slots | Appraises into |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aegis | 15 | 1 | Norgandian Shield, Firebird Ensign |
| Ancient Aegis | 15 | 1 | Norgandian Shield, Firebird Ensign |
| Ancient Bowstaff | 15 | 2 | Yewen Cane, Rowan Arc, Deerhorn Bow |
| Ancient Greaves | 5 | 1 | Hunter’s Snowboots, Snowstrider Boots |
| Ancient Helm | 5 | 1 | Talisman Band, Frost-Hunter’s Band |
The generic supply bundles are cheaper to appraise and feed the item pool rather than the gear pool. They return curatives, elixirs, tomes, rings, currency, and weapon skills.
| Supply | Appraisal (RC) | Spoils level | Trade value (RC) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | 1 | 15 | |
| 10 | 2 | 30 |
Abandoned Supplies (Rare) costs double the crystals of the Normal version but has a richer pool, dropping higher-end tomes, elixirs, and spells such as Bolide Barrage and Renascent Decree that the Normal tier never produces.
Appraised gear and built-in skills
What makes Norgan gear distinct is that the weapon or armor arrives with a special skill already attached to one of its slots. An appraised Superior Rowan Arc, for example, can carry Glacial Bolt and Riotous Magick, letting a staff user slot an ability the piece came with rather than one bought from a vocation guild. Because bowstaff relics have two skill slots, they tend to roll the most useful combinations.

Because the loot keeps flowing, there is little reason to cling to any single piece. Swapping to whatever has higher stats or a more useful skill, and storing a strong set for each vocation, keeps you viable as Norgan’s threats escalate. The same freedom extends to recruited pawns, since re-equipping them from the relic pile carries no real penalty.
Unlocking Hal’s smithing with Hammer and Tongs
Appraisal alone won’t finish Norgan’s gearing. Hal, the settlement’s smith, was hurt during a monster raid and can’t use the forge until his pain is relieved. In the side quest Hammer and Tongs, you must find Winterweed Blossom, a common herb in an abandoned settlement east of the village, and deliver it so Hal can make a physic. Giving him the herb finishes the quest and earns you Azure Ore, Snowoak Bark, and 6,000 experience.

With the quest done, Hal’s workshop opens its manufacturing and smithing menus. From there you can forge cold-weather armor and weaponry out of regional materials such as Snowoak Bark, Azure Ore, Direwolf Pelts, and Ponderous Bones, with recipes like the Smithed Twin Sarissae duospear and various smithed snow gear.

Norgan gear cannot be upgraded through the usual smithing styles, such as the Dwarven style at Gaustafr’s forge. That is why switching to better pieces as they appear matters more here than enhancing one favorite weapon.
Spending Norgan Ducats at Dwayne’s trade
Dwayne, based at the inn, runs a trade shop that deals in Norgan Ducats rather than gold. The stock is a mix of rare rings, tomes, and ornaments you will not find elsewhere in the region. Two picks stand out for relic hunters specifically.
- Equipping Enigma Chain (15 Norgan Ducats) allows its wearer to detect relics nearby, including those on the other side of walls.
- Augmentum Scriptura (20 Norgan Ducats) raises the augment slots of the Arisen and main pawn to seven.
The Enigma Chain pairs neatly with the whole Spoils loop, since it points you toward relics you would otherwise walk past, while the Augmentum Scriptura is a lasting character upgrade worth saving Ducats for.
The daily rhythm of Spoil hunting
Put together, Norgan rewards a steady cycle. Venture out in short bursts, grab every relic and supply cache you can carry, and return to the settlement before the risk climbs too high. Have Jiera appraise the haul, equip the upgrades, store a backup set, sell or trade the excess, and rest at the inn to start the next day stronger. The region does not hand out levels gently, but engaging with the relic system directly is how your Arisen and pawns keep pace with everything the north throws at them.
