Every weapon in Anime Zero starts capped at a basic attack and three skills, with the fourth slot sealed until you run it through the Evolution system. Awakening a weapon fills that slot with its ultimate ability, finishing the moveset and giving you a second heavy-hitting skill for boss fights and raids. Each weapon pulls from its own list of materials, so the process is less about a single recipe and more about reading the panel in front of you.
Quick answer: Open the Areas menu, travel to the Evolution zone, talk to the Evolution NPC, pick your weapon, gather the materials it lists, then select Evolve Character to unlock its fourth (ultimate) skill.

What weapon awakening unlocks
Before evolution, a weapon gives you its M1 basic combo plus Skill 1, Skill 2, and Skill 3. The ultimate stays locked. Awakening is the only way to open that final slot, and the resulting skill is usually the weapon’s strongest hit, often changing how it plays during a fight.
Because the ultimate completes your rotation, awakening matters most on whatever weapon you run as your main damage dealer. If you are splitting materials across several weapons, none of them finishes quickly, so commit to one before you start farming.
The upgrade does not transfer. Resources spent evolving one weapon are not refunded, so settle on your anchor weapon before investing.

Evolution requirements vary by weapon
There is no shared recipe. One weapon might demand a stack of common drops, while another needs rare raid materials alongside a large Coin and Gem payment. The Evolution panel for your chosen weapon is the only reliable source for the exact items and amounts, so check it before you commit to a farm route.
As a concrete example, Paramita Pyre (the Hu Tao weapon tied to Flame Director) lists a six-part requirement in its Evolution menu:
| Requirement | Amount |
|---|---|
| Ingots | 20 |
| Heart / Soul items | 8 |
| Character tokens | 25 |
| Potion flasks | 10 |
| Gold tokens | 8 |
| Gems | 10,000 |
Reported totals for some weapons disagree between players, and a counter showing you are short a few items only reflects what you still need, not the full recipe. Trust the live panel for your weapon over any fixed number.

Where to farm evolution materials
Materials drop from enemies and bosses across the game’s modes, and each weapon pulls from its own set. Before launching a run, check the queue screen for the drops tied to that stage so you do not waste time in the wrong loot pool.
Story Mode
Story Mode is the most direct place to target a specific material. Different acts drop different items, and the stage-select queue screen tells you which items come from which act. Once you find the act that drops what you need, replay the fastest clear of it until you hit the required count.
Infinite Mode
Infinite Mode becomes worthwhile once your weapon can survive longer. Later waves and bosses drop higher-tier materials that early story acts do not, so treat it as a secondary source after your build can last through extended runs.
Raids
Some awakening materials are locked behind raids. Paramita Pyre itself, along with the Ghosts and Staff of Homa tied to Flame Director’s evolution, comes from the Spirit’s Bathtub raid on Nightmare difficulty, where the unit drops at a 2% base rate against the boss No-Face.
Pity and codes
A material pity system backs up the worst luck, so a rare item will eventually appear if a drop stays elusive. Redeeming active codes can also hand you some of the items used for awakening, giving you a quick top-up without farming.

How to confirm a weapon is awakened
When the evolution goes through, a “You evolved [weapon]” message appears and the weapon’s status flips from Unawakened to Awakened. The fourth skill becomes usable in combat, bound to the G key on PC, while touch controls follow their on-screen prompt.
Awakening your first unit also grants an Awakened title, which is a second signal that the process registered. If the weapon still only shows three skills and the panel has not updated, recheck the requirements list, since the evolution will not complete until every listed count is met.
