SCROOMS is a monster-taming game on Roblox where the creatures are mushrooms and your weapon is a musical instrument. You play your instrument to wild scrooms, hit the tuning gauge, match their frequency, and keep them inside a moving catch zone to add them to your collection. The whole early game teaches you one loop: catch, sell, upgrade, and unlock new tools. You can jump in from the official SCROOMS experience page, which went live on October 10, 2026.

Quick answer: Get the Wooden Lute from Leo, play to match a scroom’s frequency and win the catch mini-game, then sell catches to Julian for Chimes to buy better instruments.

SCROOMS gameplay in Songkeeper’s Grove

Start in Songkeeper’s Grove and get the Wooden Lute

You spawn in Songkeeper’s Grove, the starting area of the game. The opening quest, “Getting Started!”, runs you through the basics in three objectives: get your instrument from Leo, catch your first scroom, and return to Leo.

Leo stands near the spawn point under a question-mark marker, and a glowing green arrow trail leads straight to him. Talk to him, and when he offers the lute, choose [Accept the gift]. That hands you the Wooden Lute, your first taming tool, described in-game as worn but perfectly in tune. After you take it, the next objective is to equip it from the hotbar.

The hotbar at the bottom of the screen holds your instrument, the Equipment Bag, the Index, and the Quest Log. A fifth slot opens later for the Ocarina once you unlock it.

How to catch a scroom

Catching is a three-step check. You play the instrument and hit the tuning gauge, tune into the scroom’s frequency, then drag the scroom to keep it inside a moving catch zone. Here is the full sequence.

With your instrument equipped and a wild scroom nearby, play your instrument to bring up the tuning gauge. Each hit on the gauge is rated “Good!” or “Perfect!”.
A frequency slider appears. Hold and drag the handle to lock onto the scroom’s frequency.

In the catch zone, drag the scroom to keep it inside the moving zone. Land the catch and the creature joins your collection. Your first successful catch awards the First Note badge.

Head back to Leo to turn the quest in. He greets you with “You caught one already?! A natural!” Completing “Getting Started!” pays 1,350 XP and 125 Chimes, which is enough to jump a fresh character from Level 1 to Level 4.

Sell to Julian and buy the Tamer’s Guitar

Your currency is Chimes, represented by a music-note symbol at the screen’s bottom-right. Sell your scrooms to Julian, the merchant at the wooden stall in the grove, to earn Chimes; the tutorial objective reads “Sell your scroom to Julian”.

Next, buy the Tamer’s Guitar from Julian’s shop for 100 Chimes. Equip your new instrument from the Instruments tab of the Equipment Bag, then close the bag. The guitar raises Precision to +6% and Luck to +5%, up from the Wooden Lute’s +2% and 0%.

Finishing the tutorial steps, selling a scroom, buying the guitar, equipping it, and closing the bag ends the opening sequence with “Tutorial Complete!”. Leo then points you to his uncle Halden, who is resting on a log somewhere in the grove, which starts the quest “The Next Step.”

Complete “The Next Step” and unlock the Ocarina

“The Next Step” has two objectives: “Find Halden in the grove.” and “Pay respects at the grove statues. (x/5)”.

Find Halden

Look for Halden resting on a log by the campfire with red tents in Songkeeper’s Grove.

Pay respects at all five Grove Statues

Find the five Weathered Statues in the grove, walk up to each one, and use its “Pay Respects” prompt. They sit beside the vine-covered cabin above the camp, near the riverbank on the lower dirt path, under a large tree overlooking the water, beside a small glowing lantern on a stone path, and inside a low stone ring next to a large tree on the grove’s outer path.

Return to Halden for the Ocarina

He rewards you with the Ocarina and the Magic Melody badge. The Ocarina takes the fifth hotbar slot and is used to channel songs to interact with the world.

Use the Ocarina’s Homeward Melody to fast-travel

The Ocarina channels songs to interact with the world. Its first known song, Homeward Melody, returns you to your set spawn point when you play the notes Left, Down, Up, Left on the ocarina’s arrow buttons.

Grind catches and level up faster

With the Tamer’s Guitar equipped, you build Chimes by catching wild scrooms, selling the batch to Julian, and repeating.

Where the grove leads next

A path winds out of Songkeeper’s Grove toward Bluestone Approach, where the trees thin and the ground turns to cold stone leading to caverns beyond.

Before you push on, make sure the three fundamentals are solid: a working feel for the frequency slider, the Tamer’s Guitar equipped, and the Ocarina in your hotbar for quick trips back to your spawn point. Those cover the core catch, sell, upgrade loop you learned in the grove.
