Gloombell is one of the first scrooms you can log in SCROOMS, and it sits right where you start. It is a Common catch in Songkeeper’s Grove, so you do not need a rare instrument, a special song, or any unlock to add it to your Index. You just need to be in the right place and play.
Quick answer: At Songkeeper’s Grove, play an instrument on the lawn beside the spawn marker until a Gloombell responds, then finish the catch minigame. This Common scroom has a frequency range of 30 Hz – 50 Hz.
Gloombell rarity and frequency range
Gloombell’s Index entry is headed “Common Scroom”, so it is the easiest tier to find. It is entry number 3 of 15 on the Songkeeper’s Grove page of the Index, the starting area. Its flavour line reads “Aww, why the frown?”
Scroll the same entry down and you get two more blocks. “Stats:” tracks your Highest Frequency (the best one you have caught, which tops out at 50 Hz for Gloombell) and the Date caught. “Tones:” lists three lines, Melodic, Harmonic and Resonant, each showing either a caught date or “Uncaught”.

An uncaught scroom shows as a black silhouette labelled “???” on its card. Catching a single Gloombell fills that card in.

The reliable spot is the grass around the spawn sign, in the village of red wooden houses. You do not need to travel or clear anything first to reach it.
The other Common scrooms sharing the Songkeeper’s Grove page are Redcap, Toastbud and Bluebell, so those will often turn up alongside Gloombell during the same session.
How to catch Gloombell
Every scroom uses the same catch flow, and Gloombell was caught here with the Tamer’s Guitar, which you buy with Chimes.

How to know the catch worked
A successful catch prints a message in the format “You caught: Gloombell! Frequency: <n> Hz”, with the rolled frequency for that specific creature. Caught examples land at readings such as 33.6 Hz and 38.4 Hz, both inside the 30–50 Hz band.

Gloombell tones: Melodic, Harmonic and Resonant
Tones are versions of the same scroom, marked by a prefix on the name. A caught one might read “Melodic Gloombell” or “Harmonic Gloombell”, and a single scroom can carry two prefixes at once, for example “Melodic Harmonic Gloombell”.
On the Index card, Melodic gets a gold star when caught, while Harmonic is shown with a cyan star. The Tones block logs the caught date for every tone you land, including combinations like a Melodic Harmonic Gloombell rolled at 49.6 Hz.
Tones are logged separately from the base catch, so a plain Gloombell leaves the Resonant line reading “Uncaught” until a Resonant version answers your song.
Gloombell is part of a request beyond collecting. Cal asks you to give one to his neighbour Bennie, describing it as a scroom that saps joy from everything nearby, so one of your catches can help fulfil the favour.
